I can't think of any songs she sang where her gospel roots are present. OMG. I saw her in concert at The Circle Star Theater in San Carlos, CA when I was 15 years old. I watched as her magnificent artistry brought grown men to tears. From age 8, my parents bought every album she released. Chris Cuomo on his CNN show on the eve of her passing said something so profound. He said "if you dont believe in God, thats your prerogative. But how could anyone hear Aretha sing and not know there must be a God"? Soon after her passing, NPR radio aired an interview Aretha did with Terry Gross. At the conclusion of the interview, Terry said of Aretha, "she's the greatest singer of the 20th and 21st century, and perhaps one of the greatest of all time. We miss you Aretha.
