As a dwarf fan, I like this run Go Hammersham 🔨 I remember watching Delicious in Dungeon where dwarves do in fact get hungry faster cause of the high metabolism

Pathos also have dwarves eat more then humans and elves less, but you can also play as a giant, you better have a plan for regulating your food consumption, cause they eat like 3 times as much.

I love to do key-sanity runs. Keys everywhere, locked doors only sometimes. Constantly overloaded with keys, you try to decide which ones you need. I always play a cleric though.

Thanks to you getting me into this, one thing i've learned is that Fighter/Mage/Cleric is the way to go. You have to be human or half-elf I think, but the value of Spirit Hammer, Create Food/Water, and Improved Identify can't be overstated. You can never know which/if any gear is magical or cursed without some mage levels or a ton of luck. If you set the floor max to around 15 or so you'll be able to cap out the levels of all 3 classes and be pretty well equipped for the boss. And the boss is a doozy. You'll need it.

Can you hurt monsters by throwing scrolls at them? I just like the idea of the Dwarf not knowing how to use a scroll and just throwing it at enemies.

One thing about describing it as a roguelike is that it implies to some that there is carry-over between runs. There is not. The longsword you found with a different shape is likely a Longsword of Slaying. What it is better at slaying you will likely not know, not being a mage. Weapons don't affect stats directly. They can have pluses or minuses. And the items you find can be cursed. I tend to go Cleric/Mages so I can have Identify and Detect Magic.

I feel like the map print option would be good for if you like the layout of a floor of a dungeon, or an entire dungeon, you could quickly use it for running a similar dungeon for the table top version (or at least a quick way to get maps for dungeons)

You should. 1 is a more classic crawler where you just head down, while 2 tries to do the Ultima Underworld 1 thing of making the entire island a dungeon, so the puzzles don't feel like going two rooms over to open a door. Damn, now I wanna re-play it. Also Jared!? Grimrock when? It's right up your alley. Ultima Underworld too for that matter.

If you like that kind of game, there is a somewhat recent series of games you might also like. Have you heard of "The Legend of Grimrock"? Both games are really good and I would recommend them. The second one is obviously better with bosses and multiple different dungeons instead of only one big dungeon with multiple layers, but both have good puzzle, nice gameplay, interesting dungeons layout, multiple secrets and builds for your characters. If you're ever interested and have the time, give one of them a try!

I very much enjoy this game, in theory. I got thrown off by the controls and the lack of a pause feature. If I could pause and/or change my controls better it would be great. I have also been on a OSR hexcrawl/dungeoncrawl with resource management kick lately. Mostly Castles & Crusades solo stuff.
