Fantastic project !! very good :D I know the bldc motor can work in fresh water but i'm not sure it can with salt water. there is some indication to follow to ensure it works fine with salt water? thanks a lot :)

Bearings will get shot after first use.. Also there will be electrolysis happening between non-water proof solder joints on the motor.

Congratulations, your work is incredible; I would also like to create something similar to your work for my wife who can go to the seaside but can no longer go underwater like before, we live near the sea and with this she could go snorkeling. Have you tried it at the seaside or in the pool? Once again well done.

Until now I’ve just used it in a fresh water lake. I think the only limitations are the bearings in the motor with corrosion, the motor it self is completely electrically isolated and all the other electronics are inside the waterproof housing

Thank you for sharing your project,your videos are very interesting! I have a similar project and few questions to ask you:How do you seal your propeller shaft? And how do you seal your electric throttle if you use one(not sure, your device looks like to be remote controlled?) . Thank you in advance for your help
@3dprintcnc164
@3dprintcnc164 Жыл бұрын
The whole motor is submerged in the water, so no need to seal the propeller or motor shaft, just need to seal the motor wires going inside the waterproof chamber. Same for the throttle, you just need to seal the electric cables. The Dive-Jet is going to have a throttle lever, it just wasn’t finished but in the next video I’m going to show more about that. Unfortunately my esc is not working properly anymore so I don’t know how long it will take until I upload the next video

Unfortunately it malfunctioned completely and I had to send it back, hopefully I’ll get the money back. Currently waiting for a new esc I ordered. It’s going to be an expensive project, at least for my standards.

@@3dprintcnc164 so you didn't used something like fluid simulation / propCAD? my problem is that i also didn't use any analysis program, and I get poor efficiency / not enough thrust / stall propeller :( but your design looks so good. I really cant wait to sea it underwater!
@3dprintcnc164

I have a CFD Program but still have to learn how to use it. I basically just „copied“ the design of the real ScubaJet and changed it to fit my application. But the design of the blades is pretty much the same. I haven’t been able to measure the thrust and the amps the motor is pulling, but I know that the motor is using well below 50A because the battery I used shuts down at 50A and it didn’t shut down while full throttle. That also means that I have power to spare for a more aggressive prop. Problem is that if I increase the pitch even more, I guess the efficiency of the prop will drastically decrease..

4:00 so far: impeller needs to be printed with much lower layer height, it needs to be petg or ASA. Then will be best id you coat it with epoxy after printing and sanding (with 0.1mm LH + epoxy sanding will be optional) I would not trust 3d printed enclosure to be waterproof, especially if you dive with it, it will almost certainly leak. Also by looking at motor type, you cant run this in saltwater I think, as its an outrunner.

You are right, the prop needs to be smoother but since this is still a prototype I’ve printed multiple props to test, I wanted them to print fast

@3dprintcnc164 8 ай бұрын
Hi, what plastic rings do you mean?
@jackiemartin8618
@jackiemartin8618 Жыл бұрын
Love the project, but I noticed you used PLA or ABS which is not waterproof. Even tho you used o-rings, water will still make its way through the prints and into your waterproof section. There are rubber end caps for the pipe you used that I recommend. It looks amazing, good job!
@3dprintcnc164
@3dprintcnc164 Жыл бұрын
Yes you’re right, pla or most 3d prints aren’t waterproof, that’s also a reason why one side is made out of aluminum. The other side is made from pla but it’s coated with epoxy and while testing no water got in. But in the future I’ll probably make it out of aluminum, too.

Hi. How are the prints holding pressure? All my diving projects are printed at a 100% infill to avoid air pockets that can collapse under pressure at depth. But really really really want to build something like this!
@3dprintcnc164
@3dprintcnc164 3 ай бұрын
It’s not really meant for deep diving. More like 3m maximum depth. It’s really important that the end caps are fully waterproof, that’s why I’m planing on making them both of metal

I uploaded the files on Cults3d if you really want purchase it (cults3d.com/de/modell-3d/spiel/dive-jet-sea-scooter). Although i could really need the money for this project, I´ll upload the files on Thingiverse, too, but that will take 24h to upload. For now I am using a servo tester to controll the motor but in the future I will upgrade to an arduino.

@@3dprintcnc164 Unless I am mistaken, the engine does not seem to be intended for use under water? especially sea water. Have you planned to protect the engine with a resin coating or other?
@3dprintcnc164
@3dprintcnc164 Жыл бұрын
No it’s not intended to be used in water but the windigs are waterproof and a thin coat of epoxy or paint should prevent corrosion on the stator core. Only problem are the bearings, the bearings on my motor are done and need to be replaced, I’m planning on using 2RS bearings that are pretty much waterproof.

Nice project, I also had a similar idea in 3D printing but my engine lacked power in open water. Have you been able to test it in the water? because it is not the same to test in a bathtub than at sea or in a lake?
@3dprintcnc164

Im sure it can push a kayak, it could pull me pretty good and I guess a kayak has less resistance in the water than a human body. Material wise it’s probably 200-300€ depending on the components you use
