I feel it fair to consider DALLMYD the gateway for new people to become curious about & seek out scuba diving content. KZbin doesn't make it easy on content creators to be discovered so theres room for people to clickbait as long as they have something to deliver behind it. In his case it's videos with beautiful cinematography & a chill "hanging out with a friend while exploring underneath the water" style vibe. With this channel it's an educational & chill feel of it's own. Both important for the communities that may need them.

Honestly, he could’ve had a clickbait title of “you won’t believe what’s hiding under all this duckweed!” or something along those lines. He’d still get his clickbait to draw people in while being truthful about it. There’s already so much misinformation out there, it’s annoying to see someone intentionally misleading people to think he’s discovered something new. As you’ve said, the photography is GREAT and it would be enjoyable to watch regardless of whether he “discovered” the place or not.

womp womp, you want thousands of kids to see a beautiful spot and try to sneak in and dive it untrained and unsupervised and in after hours times when nobody even know's they are there and in the water. I have been watching Dive Talk since February and just got my SSI Open Water Certification this last weekend. Not having any friends in the diving community yet, I am so grateful to have these videos to watch and learn from. The only "click-bait ISH" videos on this channel are the thumbnails on videos about tragic accidents. Then I watch the video and it has no real footage or photos from the accident itself BUT (!!) I think it is so respectful that they did not include actual content of most of these fatal accidents. They show that you can learn much and still appreciate the sanctity of human life while examining the events leading up to the loss of life. My driving goal is to become a tech diver someday but have the humility to see that I am a long ways off from having the skills necessary to attempt many of the advanced courses. Thank you both for all that you do, it is invaluable to us in the water and even as a new diver I already have the ABCDE checklist burned into my head.

First off, I appreciate the nice comments about the cinematography. Secondly, at the time I was receiving thousands of messages in regards of local people asking not to publicize their favorite spots. I didn’t mention the name of the location, "Orange Grove" so I could keep it on the down low and show respect to locals. As for the title, sometimes I experiment and push limits and I apologize to the public if this was to misleading. For clarification, I titled the video as "I found" because that's the format I was creating at the time. Every adventure/video we film we find certain things "treasures" or even places we visit, but of course I didn't "discover" this location. I purposely didn't hide the wooden decks because I didn't have nothing to hide. For me, it's always been about having fun and creating a cool video. Apologies for the miscommunication. As for personal comments. You said you invited me on the show and I ignored you. I receive thousands of messages a day and I didn't see your message. As for treasure I find, such as iPhones, GoPros, Jewelry, etc I'll never fake a find. Noticed a few people in the comments stating such and wanted to make sure I made a point to say this. I work extremely hard to find everything I put in my videos an I'll never stoop low and fake a treasure item. Treasure hunting is never guaranteed and that's why it's so much fun. - Jake comment updated 1/17/2021

Dude. Why are you attempting a public apology in this fashion? Reading it sounds just as hollow as any political apology ever made. As in, you’re making excuses and not actually owning any responsibility or accountability of any kind. You’re pushing blame onto something, anything, other than yourself. Seriously, you knew very well what you were doing with that blatant click-bait title. And you knew very well you refused to admit the location, despite it being an extremely popular spot since the 70’s. Just saying “I admit I made selective edits to misrepresent the location in order to gain views, and was wrong for making an obviously false click-bait title” would have garnered you loads of respect. But refusing to accept any form of personal accountability by making excuses is the very thing that we hate the most. It speaks to your true character in the most personal sense.

Love DALLMYD channel. I dived with Jake about a year ago. He doesn’t give out locations because the impact of having 12 million subscribers can create a lot of congestion to small water holes like that park. When he went diving for fossils with us he didn’t give out spots either. He has legit skills, gear, and knowledge for treasure hunting. Jake gives back a ton to the community. He has a huge following as a dive channel because he isn’t negative like your channel. He doesn’t need to put people down to make himself look better. People want to consume his channel’s content more for the adventure, beautiful cinematography, and the fact it isn’t so negative like DiveTalk is. DiveTalk basically just rides the success of other peoples content.
@DIVETALK2 жыл бұрын
You clearly haven’t see our videos - or Jakes videos for that matter because he gives out the name of the locations all the time. He didn’t give this one out because he was pretending to discover this “secret” location. But happy to share some links of videos where not only he shares the location but even shares the. Ame of the dive operators people should use to dive there. Lastly, most of the channels we have reacted to in this channel are smaller than us and have been “discovered” because they have been highlighted and featured in dive talk, if you actually watched some of our videos you would know that, we are actually one of the very few channels that constantly showcase our own shortcomings and struggles, we react to our own dives and strongly point our flaws so people can learn from our mistakes, and when people catch mistakes we’ve made we pin their comments to the top and have even made videos correcting those mistakes and giving shoutouts to people who found them. Would Jake make a video correcting mistakes he has made in the past? No chance. Would Jake acknowledge blatantly lying to trick people into watching his videos? No, he calls it “stretching the title”. Something that somehow all his supporters think everyone in KZbin does but actually most successful channels don’t do, look at Mark Rober, MKBHD, Dude Perfect, Good Mythical Morning, should I keep going? I’m sorry y’all feel attacked because someone pointed out a fact. The fact that the title on that video is a complete fabrication. Nobody is saying Jake is a horrible person or that his content sucks and that he doesn’t help the community or whatever…but yeah we are cool, if you guys think we are such a horrible channel and we never make mistakes and we are only negative to others and think we are perfect then ignore our channel, we are 100% incompatible for you.

Jake and his friends definitely go for the heavy clickbait titles, but they are phenomenal when it comes to the photography/videography. Super high quality shots with beautiful lighting, and I like the chemistry between him and his buddies. That’s what I subbed to them for - beautiful underwater shots and simple treasure hunting of little things left behind by tourists. They’re absolutely not trying to teach anything about diving - they moreso are influencers that just happen to dive, and I’m cool with watching that. But I’m super happy to have subscribed to you guys recently to learn more about all that goes into diving and whatnot - definitely gives me the full scope of things!

Not quite sure, but I think that green stuff on top is called "duck grass," yes? I might have two different vegetations mixed up here, but it's very healthy stuff for the environment apparently. You can buy that stuff in aquarium shops and your fish can feed off the roots and leaves, also gives you a nice glow to your aquarium covering the top. This vegetation is also something you can sell it back to the aquarium shops if it grows well in your tank, or if you collect the stuff yourself (if your state allows it lol).

From what I've read in the comments it seems like this guys channel has gotten a lot of people into diving. Those people then seem to move on to other channels like Dive Talk as they become more experienced. So, overall it seems like he's been a net positive for the diving community. I'd also be surprised if he edits and titles his own videos if he's as big as some people suggest. Based on that I really don't get the hate down here in the comments or Gus returning to the title every few seconds in the video, that's just how KZbin works these days and his team are clearly playing 'the game' 🤷🏻♂️ I dunno, maybe I've missed something?

To be fair, the very first comment on his video is from him stating that it is Orange Grove and why he titled it the way he did and that he was swimming it in winter and that's why so few people were there. If I recall correctly he says that a lot of locations he tries to keep anonymous and sometimes at the request of the location he does this so that thousands of people don't swarm the area. He also explains why he made the creative choices that he made so your mileage may vary depending on how you feel about him.
