Fun facts about Radium. Radium 226 is the most prevalent isotope. It has a 1602 year half life, and decays by alpha radiation. Alpha radiation is attenuated by a few centimeters of air or a piece of paper. In water alpha radiation is absorbed (attenuated) instantly. So it would not be an external hazard. Radium is only a hazard if it gets inside your body. Radium glows by interacting with free nitrogen. So the only time the radium deposits in the walls of the cave would glow, is when an OPEN circuit diver exhaled inside the room, and then only where the exhaled air touched a Radium deposit. Closed Circuit divers would only see a reaction when they adjusted their buoyancy. So I doubt the Radium caves would outshine the Crystal Caves of Abaco.

All kinds of misinformation in Mr.Deified's original video. He claims Murray Anderson was a Navy SEAL, but this incident happened in 1955, and the SEALs weren't founded until 1962. He was a frogman, which is the predecessor of the SEALS but still technically different. He is also off on his assessment of the radium risk, as another commenter pointed out.

The name "Radium Springs" likely originates from a misunderstanding or mislabeling of the mineral content in the springs. While the name suggests a high radium content, early tests may have mistakenly indicated its presence. Over time, as scientific methods improved, it was discovered that the radium content in the springs is actually very low and poses no significant health risk. However, the name has remained, perhaps due to its historical significance or local tradition.

I don't know what sources this guy used but there are a lot of errors. The Anderson-Donald incident was in 1955, not 1995 as stated, hence the ancient gear in the photos. So there was no formal cave training or certification, no literature, no established procedures and no Internet to look for advice from the wider diving community. There was no cave diving community. According to newspaper reports at the time, and contrary to the graphic, Donald led the way in and did indeed lay a line, as the narrator does finally mention when talking about the searches. But Anderson swam on past it to look around a vast chamber with multiple exits' He got lost in poor vis and with a failed light. Solo exploration was normal behavior for him so Donald was not worried, turning round and expecting Anderson to follow him in his own time. But he did not follow and it was only the next day a search team found his body, only a few feet from the line. Radium is an alpha emitter. This has very short range in air and practically zero in water so only really dangerous if you handle it a lot or ingest it.

At 10:02 about the "nightmare in the making" photo, I'm pretty sure it's taken from an early trip to the Cosquer cave which was discovered by a diver not far from Marseille, France. So the nighmarish looking things on the stalactites or walls are actually prehistoric drawing, hand prints. The bearded guy in blue is probably Henri Cosquer, the (officially at least) discoverer of the cave. This is consistent with the fact that a previous still, a few seconds before, showed the diagram of how to access the cave from the "Mediterranean Sea" (so a bit remote from inland Georgia).
