Lets call this like it is. First, lets call it a ship crash, rather than bridge collapse. The bridge would have been fine if the ship did not hit it! So, lets hope the shipping company is held accountable for the lives lost in this ridiculous accident.

the may have been, or there may have been an attempt (a will at the very least) but it all happened in a matter of 3-4 minutes - the mayday call, the blocking off the entrances etc. There just wasn't enough time for the information to get to them and for them to react quick. Look at that boat in comparison to the bridge! Why would they let a boat like that pass under an older bridge like that? This bridge should have been a bascule bridge or if anything ALL traffic should have been stopped and workers evacuated until the barge passed. They KNEW that this bridge could not withstand that impact! The families should sue but that will not bring them back.

I keep seeing this clip of the cargo ship hitting the bridge and thinking that a ship that size must need to set its trajectory at least a mile out bc it’s not like someone is going to be able to steer it out of the way of an obstacle in a few minutes, it’s going to take some time. It just seems so odd that this would happen, especially if this is a routine run. Just a few hundred feet over and the ship would have cleared the bridge. Even if the ship lost power, it could still be on the correct trajectory with no acceleration. Now, our shipping economy has been disrupted. I’m not sold that this wasn’t in some way some kind of targeted attack disguised as an ‘accident’. Especially taking down the bridge that was named after the composer of the Star Spangled Banner 🇺🇸 Not adding up for me.

Look up videos by "What is Going on With Shipping?". He has excellent videos addressing the situation and all your questions will be answered there. @michellenina
@michellenina Ай бұрын
@@mando074 Will do. Thanks for that info. Just watching the lights go off on the ship moments before hitting it, I would have thought that it was on the correct trajectory waaaay before it even got that close to the bridge. Not saying that I think the ship should have been able to stop.
@mando074
@mando074 Ай бұрын
@@michellenina it was on the correct trajectory but once they lost power the water currents drifted the ship to the wrong direction. When they got power back and tried re-starting the engine it was too late to steer the ship back into the shipping lane. The ship was traveling at about 8 knots (too fast IMO) so stopping the collision was nearly impossible. Re-starting a propeller on a ship that size with water moving at 8 knots would be very difficult to do (quickly).

Set up a temporary ferry across the bay. Send in about a hundred welders with cutting torches, several barges and 2 cranes with electro magnets, two more ashore and couple of tugs to shuttle the barges from the bridge to a close accessible shoreline. Hire a fleet of trucks to carry the scrap metal to a recycling center. Clear the channel first and re-open the harbor to shipping traffic. I would guess you could clear the channel in 2-3 weeks if you got this set up correctly and running around the clock. Yes, you would have to get some well trained Navy divers to do a lot of the underwater cutting, size the debris to fit on the barges. Each tug could tow 2-3 barges. When they reach shore, have the cranes load trucks as they arrive and when there aren’t any trucks, just start an unloading pile to the side. This all could be coordinated and within a few days, it would be running smoothly. Once the channel is clear, you could slow the process down a bit to save money, however I would keep things rolling so as to facilitate the recovery of the victims and get them to their families so they could get some closure. Very, very sad for the victims families unable to have their people back and be able to honor them. I deepest condolences to all those touched by this tragic accident.

Let me guess: changes will be made to structural development. This will cost more to ensure proper reconstruction. That is good. However somewhere in that someone is hearing little cashdrawer sounds and this will suddenly cost more than that and then more near completion. The lives lost will be forgotten within a year or two but the expenditure will be astronomical for years further. This "accident" is much deeper than an immediate tragedy. It will become a cashgrab. We seldom honor the dead when profit is on the horizon.

@@ceeellebee122 you realize there are lots of roads that are already tunnels right?? i’m sure bridges existed before hazmat materials did. so that is not why bridges were invented

The investigation cant wait. Its started as soon as the bridge crashed. This has happened be4 in other countries and could have be prevented. The bridge definitely was flawed with the 1 hit and everything crashed 😮. Similar happened in Australia i think . Nothing to do with size of boat but not having a couple of tug boats as a standard to direct the container ship as a backup but that costs more money. Saving money cost the lives and the massive cleanup bill. Sometimes you spend money to save lives

Were the Bridge workers illegal? Why wont MSM say? Do you think its a good Idea to have them work on US Critical Infrastructure. God Bless the families involved.

Clearly they were doing the job that others either can't do or don't want to do. Immigrants, whether they are legal or illegal, contribute to the progress of countries and deserve much more than comments like yours.

Not in a truck with a back bumper or a trailer attached. Reversing a ½ mile back down that bridge was no chance
