@@95TurboSol Hm, okay! I don't play the game myself, but if I'd make a similar distinction I'd probably say that primary means are the landscape, buildings, people et cetera, the secondary means are the flags and writing et cetera, and the tertiary means are anything that has to do with the Google car.
@Brax19824 жыл бұрын
@@607 You are looking at it the wrong way. It's in order by how distinct the means are. Some place names are unique. Flags are very distinct and most often in the place you expect them to be. Some Google Cars are even foolproof distinctive...kinda like "zero means" because it's pretty much cheating with meta information. Ok, I forgot that we are playing a pinpoint-from-single-shot game...disregard. =p Well, people won't help you with pinpointing, so your definition is still lacking a bit, as well.
@kurumi3943 жыл бұрын
@@607 Imo primary means are concrete evidence you have for a country (i.e. the national flag, the name of the country, domain names, etc). Things that directly lead to the answer. Secondary means are clues that help you find the feeling of the location but aren't solid enough on their own to provide a definite answer. So maybe the location of the sun to tell which hemisphere you're in, the kinds of vegetation you can see for the biome you're in, etc. Also people's ethnicities or building styles.

@@ChoiceDK ive recently got into this game, have you got an idea of how to get better, I figured no zoom move pan and with a time limit of 10 seconds works well, I know it’s absolutely insane, but it makes my brain work faster and that’s how I make better decisions as well, my best in this mode is around 12k points now (okay ish, I guess, considering I’ve played for a week and it’s an insanely hard mode) on regular setting I managed to get 23k, yes my geography is really good, not tryna brag but I’m a geography freak so flags, names of cities, and languages on signs are quite easy to instantly know where I am. But somehow I feel like I’m still not putting it to full extend, I do use the where is the sun trick as well as looking at plates even tho they’re blurred, but do you know some more advanced tricks to help me get to another level? Greetings from a fellow geoguessr player
@ChoiceDK4 жыл бұрын
@@simonuser Hi :) I am glad you reached out to me. There are so many tricks and things to learn in this game. If we start out with the most obvious tricks, it's either Kyrgyzstan or Mongolia with their distinct Google vehicles. Kyrgyzstan have mountains and a red license plate. I would really recommend you to check Google Maps to see which countries have coverage. Unfortunately there are only a few countries in Africa, so it's easy to pinpoint where to guess in. What made me experienced? Well, I have been loving geography and small details since I can remember, and I feel like GeoGuessr is the best educational game for me. Recently they added a new gamemode called "Explore" to their homepage. This is where I really started to notice extremely small details such as bollards (things on the side of the road) and their house numbers. If you want to get better, maybe doing 10 seconds isn't a great idea. Please visit geotips website, you can learn so much from that website.

@DECODEDVFX3 жыл бұрын
Most houses in the Irish countryside look like the ones in the first round. Light-colored walls, dark roofs, often single story. The rest of the details match the Irish county too (single lane roads with no markings, low fences, basic looking telephone poles). Places like this exist in Britain, but they are very common in Ireland. The second round could have easily been Ireland too. However, the hedgerows lining the roads in Ireland tend to be quite wild, whereas the ones in Britain are trimmed like these ones were.

Would love to get more insight into how you get an initial guess Tom. E.g. in the Serbia guess you immediately knew the region, but what gave it away? Is it just instincts at this point? Cheers
@magnus97544 жыл бұрын
It's a lot about the landscape but also how the houses look. Like, when that picture came, my immediate instinct was that this was somewhere in eastern Europe. I thought Poland or Romania. There's a distinct look. Austria is another good example. Those type of houses are typical in the mountainous areas of Austria, and combined with the landscape it wasn't that difficult. But guesses like the Chile one is just insane, no idea how his intution leads him to these places.
@luciendaout4 жыл бұрын
I felt like the chile one was more a combination of things, like knowing that it was a road straight north, toward a coast (either sea or river) and on the southern hemisphere. Combine that with spanish/general intuition and knowledge about the looks of the area, and you can get somewhere. Now that accuracy was definitely impressive, but i feel i've seen him pull out much more insane guesses with much less to go off
@andrassalamon6294 жыл бұрын
Tom has been in Eastern Europe a few times, which makes him instantly recognize the region, I think

That street was soooo typical of the Hungarian Plain. If you've been there (or if you've played a few hundred games of GeoGuessr!) you recognise it straight away without analysing the houses and roads. Unfortunately, Tom should've analysed them a bit - Hungary has green signs, not yellow.
@ordinaryhand4 жыл бұрын
i can't speak for tom, but i can say that if you spend some time playing geoguesser (say every day for a couple of weeks) you start to pick up on the "feel" of some places. i've never travelled outside of north america so by all rights i should be clueless, and i'm not an expert, but i definitely got a LOT better at identifying places just from getting better at the game. one important factor is just knowing where google maps covers -- for example every location i've ever had in kenya was along that axis of mombassa-nairobi-nakuru.
