Or they sign a deal that states something similar to "artist's rights to properties created under contract with Capital Records are forfeited if artist leaves." Or they sign a deal where they don't even get royalties at all and instead get a pretty big advance, a percentage of merch and touring and the record company keeps the rest and pays for marketing, distribution, PR etc. That's not to say Chingy is broke.
