I feel the Flying Dutchman at Efteling in the Netherlands has the concept of a water coaster down to a T. It combines a full dark dark ride section, and then when the story kicks off it takes you up on a decently fast lift hill, which drops you in the coaster section, that then ends in the final splashdown. Doesn't get you THAT wet, but hey you're in the Netherlands so that's a good thing 9/10 times in the year.
@revofreak19934 жыл бұрын
The “coaster” part of De Vliegende Hollander is extremely dull, kinda rough, pointless and underwhelming. The final splash doesn’t even feel like a splash, you hardly ever get more then 3 drops of water on you. They could’ve done a better job actually ...

The ride is actually better in the 3rd row. Not because it's more intense, but because it's where you get absolutely drenched. There is an articualtion between the 2nd and 3rd rows that lets water spray upwards during both splashes.

Hello! Italian coaster enthusiast whose current home park is Mirabilandia here! I think I might shed a little bit of light on why the gp loves this ride. Mirabilandia is a relatively small park located in one of the hottest and most humid locations possibile in all of Italy. During the summer months, going to Mirabilandia is basically making a trip to hell and back; this year I went there in late July a couple times and both days the temperature peaked at 40° Celsius (which is 104° in Farhenheit) in the afternoon. In such a hot place water- based rides are necessary if you don't want to pass out due to heat stroke or you just need to cool off a bit. However, if you look specifically at water rides, Mirabilandia has plenty of small water rides that are kid friendly, like a mini log flume or water shooting based rides, but not so many for teens and adults. We only basically have Divertical, the weird carwash themed log flume and a river rapid ride; this means that during the hottest hours of the day most people rush to these three rides (and iSpeed, which has a shitty capacity so the line is around 2h long every time) to avoid getting cooked by the hot Mediterranean sun, resulting in the lines being packed. Divertical is pretty popular among teens also because it is seen as one of the "tougher" rides in the park, with the added bonus of it being a water ride, perfect for cooling of a little bit in the summer. Also lots of kids and teens flock in during the summer because Mirabilandia is close to one of the most popular tourist destinations in Italy, Rimini, and it's very easy to get to Mirabilandia from there. Personally I don't care about this ride that much, I would rather marathon Katun over and over. It is fun, and the elevator lift is pretty cool, but the line for this gets absolutely ridicoulous and it is not that thrilling. However I understand the appeal and it serves an important role in the park, so I'm glad we have this in Mirabilandia! Plus it's elevator lift is certainly a quirky and very recognizable symbol of the park :) Thanks a lot for putting Italian parks on the map for the world to see, and keep up the good work, you are one of the best coaster content creators out there for sure! Hope you'll be back in Europe soon 😊

Mfw Taylor actually takes your request at heart 😍 Anyways, I'm also not a fan of this ride at all, but not for the reasons you'd expect. The ride experience imo, even though it's not thrilling in the slightest, especially for its height, is actually barely passable, albeit very short. My biggest gripe with Divertical is the frankly DISGUSTING amount of space this ride takes up all by itself, (it takes up significantly more space than iSpeed, which is a decently longer ride) especially considering how short and mediocre it is, and also the abysmal reliability issues it has. I know you haven't personally seen this ride go down, but I can assure you that there's a good chance that at some point while you were snooping around the rest of the park, Divertical would've gone down at least once. But believe me, it used to be so much worse. In 2014 the ride was down for almost the whole season because a car overshot the MCBR during an E-stop and stalled on a turn. Apparently some fine specimen over at Intamin forgot that drive tyres aren't a very good way to stop a car that's just been in contact with w a t e r. I guess that's why their newer water coasters don't feature drive tyre MCBRs. And you wanna know the most infuriating thing about this entire situation? You'd think that after such an abominable experience with a faulty prototype, Mirabilandia would've learned their lesson and maybe follow it up with something less risky and more on the safe side, right...? RIGHT...?! Welp, turns out Desmo Race (the new Spike Coaster) has been an even bigger dumpster fire trainwreck than Divertical, being out of order for TWO SEASONS STRAIGHT, only recently beginning to operate semi-consistently, and with an even shorter and (reportedly) even more mediocre ride experience. Seriously, whoever picks out Mirabilandia's new ride models needs to be fired into the sun.
@CoasterStudios4 жыл бұрын
I did not know that about Desmo Race. Thats a shame.

As an italian Coaster Enthusiast, I totally agree with you. I rode this last year, and man, it was so disappointing. The drop is insignificant, the only thing you feel is the wind blowing on your face (if you're in the front row). The "airtime hill" is more of a "we go a bit up, and then a bit down", no forces at all. The mid-breaks kill the speed, and then it's just some turns before the last splash. Too boring for a thrillseeker, and too "intense" for kids/families... and if you also think this is built by Intamin, it gets even more disappointing. Just a steeper drop would have made it a decent ride!

I mean not every coaster has to be thrilling. What’s wrong with a fun ride.
@SunnylandProds4 жыл бұрын
Well, watching the Expedition Theme Park video about Pilgrim’s Plunge, the problem is (and Taylor brings this up) it’s so tall that it’s gonna intimidate a lot of younger kids, but it’s not gonna do much for anyone else. It’s not sure if it wants to be a high thrill ride or a family ride, and it ultimately accomplishes nothing.

I dont think this should be rated as a coaster at all. To me it's just a more extreme log flume, and if you look at it like that it's pretty good in what it's supposed to be. I reckon you placed your expectations too high by thinking it was going to be a real coaster, while in reality it hardly is. That's just my thoughts on the ride though, I know it's officially classified as a Rollercoaster, so I can fully understand why you would expect more than what you got.

i think that if i was not an enthusiast, this coaster was just fun. i mean, it's a family caoster. the elevator lift is great and it provides nice views. the rest of the ride doesn't do anything special or thrilling. then the real fun is the splah at the and. however, lasti time i was at mirabilandia i rode it twice and never rode it again during the day. to bhe honest, El Dorado Falls, the shoot the chutes ride, is even a more wet ride than divertical, and it has a better capacity. so if it is extremely hot and i want to get soacked i go for El Dorado Falls. if i want extra fun, i could go for divertical. i mean it's an OK coaster, don't expect camazing g-forces or intense moments. its a water coaster...

While I agree that 45 degrees is too shallow (at least for a normal roller coaster) after visiting cedar point recently, personally I've found that 90 degrees doesn't always mean a drop is going to be incredible. I think iron rattles drop is MUCH better than steel vengences despite vengeance being the bigger and steeper ride. I've had better rides in New Texas giant even. I think steep, but not too steep is the way to go because when a drop is just too steep. Even if a ride is 200+ feet tall, it just feels too short to really even feel it. (With the exception of dive coasters).
