For those wondering, this is the same video that was published last Friday. After it went live, I realized I had incorrectly calculated the returns of both holdings used in the example. My apologies for that. The main point that revolves around the calculations is still correct.

Patreon subscriber here! Quick point I think would drive the point home of Income vs. Growth dividend investing. The Growth camp seems to worry a lot about the value of distributions in an Income focused portfolio becoming less and less able to cover living expenses due to inflation. The weird thing is that they are willing to wait 5+ additional years to start living off dividends compared to the Income investor. I think it would be cool to show the difference between an Income portfolio and a Growth portfolio that started at the same time, with the same initial investment with the same recurring investments but instead of the Income investor turning off DRIP and living off income at the 15 year mark (or whatever) that investor keeps investing until the Growth investor turns off their DRIP (20 year mark or whatever) and compare. I think you would need to show excess distributions in the Income portfolio being reinvested (to match the Growth portfolio's distributions each month/year) and show that the Income portfolio keeps growing and outpacing inflation better than a Growth Portfolio. I would love to see that video.

If someone gave me 360k tax free... I could invest that in dividend investments, and make enough to pay all my bills. Probably not my bills, taxes, food, and fun. However, the piece of mind know everything could be paid for would be priceless. 360k In additional to my current dividends retiring at anytime would be an option. I keep growth and Tech in IRAs which I would hit the last of my roth contribution limit x4 over with my first dividend payment. I would put the whole stake in dividend income. I might take 60k for trading, but probably not. I would probably but 100k into tech based dividends. LIKE JEPQ, DGRW, and DIVO. I might even put 10k of it in something crazy like YieldMax Tech. Just for fun, maybe a bit more to cover taxes on the rest while the fun lasted.

I like investing in close-end funds that pay monthly dividends. The trick is to hold long term and reinvest the monthly dividends plus buy more shares on a monthly basis or when ever you can afford to. This can be easily done because close-end funds are bought and sold on the stock market just like regular stock. That’d be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between $50k to $70k in dividend income

If you are just starting out, pick the lowest item from your monthly budget and try to earn enough dividends to cover it. Then repeat the process on the next one and keep repeating. This is how I approached it and I wish I had done it sooner.

Finally made over $200 a month with 3 portfolio's. Individual, IRA, and Roth portfolio's. I can only afford to put at lease S1200 in each portfolio per year. As of now I can pay 2 utility bills with the dividends. New goal is a car note of or about $500 in a few more years. Just started doing this dividend thing during Covid. I'm 65 and trying to get to that goal. Anything is better than nothing. Wish I was a little smarter when I was younger.

The market is not necessarily a rollercoaster if you know your way around the market, there are various opportunities in the present market to accrue good profit, If you are not too savvy with the market, just buy and hold on strong companies with good earnings, or consult with advisors on ETFs and actively managed funds. that’s what works for my spouse and I. We've made over 80% capital growth minus dividends.

YieldMax funds are the best thing I've found for dividend snowball, most people don't know how to reinvest with these funds. You have to pick the right ones and DCA down all month buying more shares. Pretty soon your share price will catch up and the NAV erosion won't take over. These funds have to be managed. Some of these funds beat the underlying some of the time with distributions added. People are bringing in $500-1k a month with these funds, with only 20k invested. (This is not financial advice)
@matthewwerstler77604 ай бұрын
I like YieldMax funds. Some of them have endured better than I expected. They are fun way to prop up your monthly income. I wouldn't suggest going all in on them, but thats me. My paycheck auto deposits into my brokerage. Every payday I have an income target. If I buy a share of SCHD with a super low dividend I might add a YMAG or NVDY to in with my other purchases to hit my income target. However, I am prepared for diminishing returns and capital over time on them.

What I always keep in mind with those other videos is that they come from a dividend growth perspective, so their number will always be higher than what is typically needed for income investors. If you're more focused on dividends than share price growth, I would say the number is 1/4th-1/2 of $100,000. At that point, you're yielding enough to cover small to moderate life expenses given your portfolio hovers around 6-8%, which means you're earning minimum an additional $100 per month.
@marshallmason15 ай бұрын
If you'd invested $10,000 in JNJ in 2015 and reinvested their 3% ($300/year) dividend, you'd have $18,000 today, with a 16% standard deviation. If instead you put 45% in Apple stock and kept 55% in cash, you'd have $33,000, also with 16% standard deviation. If it's really those $300 dividend checks you crave, then just sell some shares and you'd still come out way ahead.
@tylerwcortner7 ай бұрын
Can you do a portfolio of JEPQ (1st week), THTA (mid month), and SPYI (end of month). And show growth over time, using one dividend to buy the next? Example, JEPQ dividend to buy THTA, then THTA dividend to buy SPYI, and so on.

This is great as I am in $1,000-1.5k monthly investing also investing my tax return and year bonus. Your channel was what woke me up to income investing. This is such a big deal as someone who has lived a paycheck to paycheck life, I do not wish that life on anyone. If you're that person and all you can afford to invest is $50-100 a month, that is still significantly better than what most people are doing and you'll be miles ahead in time
@matthewwerstler77604 ай бұрын
That's awesome! Investing over 1k a month I have to assume your not putting it all in a Roth. The downside at your rate of investment is you probably won't get a tax return in a couple years. However, when that happens you'll know it's working.

It's a common misconception that when a stock you buy skyrockets, the smart thing to do is sell it (or at least sell some of it) to lock in your profits. But the context matters. If the stock has increased sharply because the business is performing exceptionally well, it could still be a bargain. I'm still looking for companies to make additions to my $350K portfolio, to boost performance. Here for ideas...
@LaurenFeller-dd7uf6 ай бұрын
A lot of folks downplay the role of advlsors until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for licensed advisors and came across someone of utmost qualifications. She's helped grow my reserve notwithstanding inflation, from $275k to $850K

The only thing that sucks (in a lot of western countries at least), is the wealth-tax that comes into play. The more money you have, the bigger the amount of wealth-tax you pay. And/or the more interest you make. That puts a serious damper on how quick someone can become (semi)FIRE unfortunately. In The Netherlands for example, we currently have a system which puts an estimated interest in profit, and takes a wealth-tax cut from that. Starting around 2027 though, it'll be 36% on your áctual profit. So if you have €300,000 and make a 10% interest (div-yield + share price growth) at €30,000, you'll pay roughly €10,800 in wealth-tax… with our current system we'd only have to pay roughly €3,500, or 1/3 of what we'll pay in a few years. Not sure about the exact numbers in the US and other countries (Germany has a similar system I believe), but don't forget to check if and/or how much wealth-tax you would have to pay, as it's highly influencing the speed at which you get your preferred dividend payout :)

Dont be fooled by dividends. Wall street lowers the stock orice the exact amount of the dividend. You gain absolutely zero on a dividend. Your better off buying growth stocks and dollar cost averaging and selling on the peaks. You will wait 20 years of dividends to make the same amount as VGT in one good year.
