People believe their currency has the worth it does because they have no other option. Even in a hyperinflationary environment, individuals must continue to use their hyperinflationary currency since they likely have minimal access to other currencies or gold/silver coins.

Dividend investing is most effective when approached with a long-term perspective. While dividends can provide immediate income, the true power lies in the compounding effect over many years. I'm still looking for companies to make additions to my $350K portfolio, to boost performance. Here for ideas...

A simple strategy to create wealth for future generations is to make long-term investments in high-dividend companies and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Interestingly, more than 80 percent of billionaires have stock holdings that have grown to billions of dollars. What the poor dread, the rich do!

Of course! Growth investing generates wealth. In my nine years of investing, I have found that nibbling heavy red days has been profitable, even though we are not in a bear market. I'm at 2.25 million. The largest holdings are PLTR, TSLA, SCHD, and VOO. In addition to identifying high-quality value and growth stocks to purchase, we are currently trying to increase DRGO. Last year, I received $48k in taxable dividends. This year's Q3 taxable dividends came at $18,388. When the market is down, don't sell. When it comes to portfolio strategy, having a knowledgeable CFA who takes the time to conduct in-depth research can be extremely beneficial.Continue reading

I retired this year at age 60 and use high paying dividend etf's to cover my very basic living expenses, rent, food, etc. This is my basic bridge to social security. I keep 2 years cash, I am currently 60.5yr, so I can at least get to social security at 62 in an emergency. The plan is to keep delaying social security every 2 years up until age 67 to 70 but to be able to take it anytime if it is needed. I am an options trader so all profits go to either more income etf's, more cash, or into growth funds. I don't need a lot of money to enjoy my life so that helps.

I would think that a major benefit of dividend investing is that calculating portfolio size needed is not relevant. We don't care about the value of the portfolio. We care about the sustainable income it pays. As you invest you can gradually see the income rise as you invest more and pull the retirement trigger when it's high enough regardless of the market sentiment.
@91ScottieP

Calculating the portfolio size needed is very relevant. - How else do you know how much to contribute?
@ThomasChai05
@ThomasChai05 20 күн бұрын
The income generated by contributions depends on how much they add and how that income grows over time. While capital values fluctuate, a portfolio yielding 2% at a high value provides the same income as one yielding 4% at half the value, assuming the yield is sustainable. What matters is the income stream, not the market's momentary highs or lows.

Don't be seduced by large dividends. Concentrate on total return. There is no sense in collecting large dividends if your overall investment is going down however I’d say SPYI, JEPQ, QQI and IWMI. But do your research. Personally I put down 250k on few ETFs, still diversifying. Earning season is around the corner, It was this time last year I made a huge break through with 200k. Handed it to a firm here in Texas, I get weekly pay out which I put back on long term ETF's. IWM will probably crush it this quarter

1:18 this is a crap point, if you've been investing for years this means you've been budgeting and living within your means so should mean you are capable taking a dividend and dividing the amount by 3 and allocating it to the appropriate months budgets or by having a buffer fund to spread out the yearly ups and downs of distributions

In my mind I consider "best for early retirement" may not be "best to fund the rest of your life retirement." You actually point out this issue while discussing SCHD vs high yield investments. I think preferred stocks combine the worst of common stock ownership with the worst of bond lending. You may have a higher claim that common stock in bankruptcy, but lower than any bond holder. In practice this means you get nothing in that case. You have a higher claim on dividends than common stock, but the dividends are fixed unlike common stock. If dividends cannot be paid, you are equally as likely to not get paid and (unlike 20+ years ago) very few preferred shares will back pay the missed dividends. I think the new universe of covered call ETFs is a far better choice than preferred stocks or bonds. I like SPYI and QQQI (considering IWMI also from NEOS) and FEPI. Be aware that it may not be possible to spend all of the distribution from these high yield funds unless you are good with your distribution declining over time. In other words, you may need to reinvest anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 of the distribution to maintain parity and even a greater share if you want to increase your distributions.

I have PFFA and JEPQ, just started building PFFA last month. They are my only income-focused ETFs, but I have an account of others for growth with the goal of those to be long-term liquid savings. At current valuations (crazy high!), I'm collecting about $900/month in regular dividends on $137K allotted, avg 35-40 positions. up overall, up 17.5% overall and I've been living off the income, reinvesting at least 10%. Total newbie at 64; I'm 68 now. It can be done, takes MASSIVE amount of time to learn, do, make mistakes, keep going, but was somehow doable for me. Desperation, perhaps. Who know what the future is? Investing in Bitcoin ETFs changed my life! With bi-weekly returns of $35K-$57K, I built a solid down payment and bought a new home for my family. Smart moves make dreams come true

Madeleine Howells is to be thanked. My journey with her started after my best friend got back from New York and saw me suffering in dept then told me about her and how my life could change through her. Madeleine Howells is the kind of person one needs in his or her life! I got a home, a good wife, and a beautiful daughter. Note!:: this is not a promotion but me trying to make a point that no matter what happens, always have faith and keep living!!

Unlike often cited 2.52%, my understanding is that the management fee for PFFA is 0.8%, the fee we would be directly accountable for excluding the interest "expense" portion as a fee at the ETF level. Could someone confirm if my understanding is correct? Thank you in advance.

Tech-heavy ETFs like JEQ may have high yields, but aren’t they way too volatile for steady retirement planning? 🤯📉
