I was so proud of Cecily. She absolutely killed that song.

Apparently some of the famous as hell orchestrations or at least how Titus is singing it is a reference to Evita I think one of the moments is a reference to “oh what a circus”

Just noticed the copy of "Open a New Window" in the background. Terrific book. I enjoy Mordden's books on Broadway and Hollywood.

The best part of the whole tirade Topher has at Josh, is Melissa’s visible cringe at the terrible Tim Rice ‘imperfect rhyme/lyric’: “Is that supposed to make me feel better? Because it doesn’t. It makes me feel the exact opposite” Nancy from Oliver! actually cared about/for the Orphans. I feel like that’s sort of where the Codwell story arc is headed.
@jeffscotcarey Жыл бұрын
Haha, yea, just another brilliant send up of how it seems like Tim Rice would sometimes leave his place-holder lyrics in the final draft ;)

Heaven On Their Minds and Superstar were great choices as the basis for Famous as Hell, because that is basically what Judas is saying in those songs in JCS. In the first of the two he says, "You've begun to matter more than the things you say," and in the second, "did you mean to die like that was that a mistake or, did you know your messy death would be a record breaker." Really Judas' only problem with where Jesus is at this point, is that he thinks he's lost sight of the message and is more in tune with the nature of what fame has come his way. Not sure if it's anyone's fault, but it's an interesting position and makes Judas more sympathetic in my eyes. He also says at some point before the betrayal, "you want me to do it, what if I just stayed here and ruined your ambition? Christ you deserve it!" The nature of fame and consequences has been relevant for ages in our culture, so it's fitting that it's a main theme in the show, and the contradictions involved are what eventually drives Judas crazy in the end. Hopefully Mel and Josh can avoid this ;)

It would be nice if we ended the season with a one-hour episode. By the way, did you notice that the first part of "This Is How We Change" sounded a lot like "Sunday" from _Sunday in the Park with George?_ It was a little out of period. That's for season 3!

In Famous as hell when they all sing at the same time, if you listen closely to Aaron's part it's giving a Gethsemane vibe from JC superstar!

My theory since episode 2 (when he touched the boa and tried to dance along in his chair) is that we are going to get a La Cage aux Folles type song from Sgt. Rivera. Also maybe Melissa will figure out she doesn’t want a child but more she wants a purpose and to feel a sense of being important. And Josh will teach other doctors perhaps. Also I thought I heard some Funny Honey moments in "It's My Time Now" I am so excited for your video with Broadway by Ghostlight!

Cecily's solo reminded me equal parts of "Maybe This Time" but also "But the World Goes Round" from New York, New York and "You Can Always Count On Me" from City of Angels. All songs about being meant for a greater purpose with nice park and bark energy. And speaking of references, I don't feel the prechorus of "Famous As Hell" had a reference to it. I've found that the show has a tendency to drop the overt references when it wants to make a point about the season's theme (like "With All of Your Heart" or the finale from Season 1), so I assume the "fa-ame..." refrain was an example of that. **"And the people say...!"**
@jeffscotcarey Жыл бұрын
Yea I agree, it didn't sound to me much like Superstar the song either, so it was probably more of an original hook than a sendup. When Titus sang, "Faaaame, Faaaaaaame"... my head went to "no time is a good time for goodbyes..." Which is a Starship song from the 80's (Sarah) I doubt that is intentional, unless Starship had a juke-box musical that I don't know about. The melody just reminded me of that song ;)

@@cherannn aw, thank you for the kind words. Yea RENT was definitely a seminal moment in theatre history, and so bitter sweet because we lost Jonathan so tragically and unexpectedly. I was told by people that knew him that he would have certainly made changes between the off-bway run and The Nederlander, but never got the chance of course. The show is still a monster, and changed the game, but there's no way of knowing how much Jonathan Larson would have influenced the evolution of musical theatre writing throughout the last 3 decades.
