I was actually at this concert! I think that might’ve even been me and my hair jumping in the crowd lol Expo 88 was a time I’ll never forget. I had a year pass and went to every concert at Expo and I’d travel from the Sunshine Coast. Time of my life! This is awesome to see. I’ve been watching some Chrissy interviews (the Andrew Denton one got me started) and shows this past day so I was so happy to see this come up because I was actually there front row as a shorty I’d wait all day to be at the front at concerts. My cousin and I would just tag team to go to the loo. Thanks for this. Bringing back memories and I’m nostalgically thinking of all the amazing artists in my lifetime that have sadly passed away x So many and it’s sad :(

@@mikerieck306 Neon Ballroom from '99 was well received with hits like Ana's Song, Anthem for the Year 2000 etc and '97 their Freak Show had some songs that were thrashed on radio that people loved. Frogstomp will always be their best album imo. I wasn't a big fan but liked a few of their songs and played Frogstomp a fair bit. Loved playing it on guitar as well. Basic but enjoyable to play along to. The songs Anthem for the Year 2000 and Freak were good to play on guitar too. I laughed when they got pissed off and denied being inspired by Nirvana. Their style says it all. Especially in the film clip for Tomorrow where Daniel has the exact same hair, clothes and even the same stance. Cobain-esque BIG time. They should've felt proud to be dubbed Australia's answer to Nirvana instead of despising it. I guess I should cut them a break. They were just kids after all.

Got hooked on Divinyls in 83 on the US west coast. One of you older Californians could help me a bit. First saw them on a midnight weekend rock show, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert? It aired on tv and had an FM radio simulcast. It appeared to be a studio performance and Miss Amphlett was wearing the black, white frocked doll costume. The video feed was clear as a bell, audio was great with a good radio. Having followed the traditional rock venue presentation, for a while, I tuned in for my next weekend dose only to find a goth type doll prepared to entertain the masses (had my doubts thrown in my face quickly), best recollection was a three tune set, Boys in Town, Only Lonely and Science Fiction ( I think). It blew me away, the band and Chrissy were so in sync with performance and offered a phycological insight that would haunt everyone. Couldn't put that behind me.

I was there that night down the front row and Chrissy made my year by blowing me a kiss back when I sent one to her. What a singer, what a performer and what a woman! Today's girly pop like Beyonce, Rihanna and Taylor Swift is just so much dross by comparison.

I don't think most people in Australia appreciated just how special is was to to have this rock goddess, when we had her. There was nothing like her beforehand and nothing like her since.

Back then I was “why you got to be so slutty?” Now I see that as a term of strength and not derision.

It may well have but I certainly didn't understand the empowerment it meant which is all the more exciting now.

I was lucky enough to have a sister who's 10 years older than me. She took me to this when I was just 13, with her friends. I, at the time had a Huge crush on one of her friends, but ignored her the Whole time Chrissie and the Divinyls were playing. She was a Goddess then, and has been until today, and forever. I think, embarrassingly, I spent the whole time with my mouth wide open just staring, in Total amazement!

For the most part, I'm not an 80s music fan, I prefer 1965 to 75 era rock music, and I'm not too fond of performance art at a concert (some of the stuff that Chrissy Amphlett does) . I was only familiar with their pop song hit Touch Myself, as it was the only one of their songs that got any airplay here in the U.S. I just watched about a dozen of their live performances, all I can say is wow, the whole band are all excellent musicians across the board, no weak links, I would rate them better than AC/DC (different music, I know). I'm surprised (and saddened) that they never caught on here, they are a lot more talented than many of the bands that were big at the time. I think I could of really got into their music back then if I had been aware of it.

Yes success is a real lottery of who gets picked for immortality....in the lap of the gods who were so jealous of Chrissie they called her home too early. The band, so tight, the vocals, so impossibly perfect and unique.
