Much prefer this to Joranalogue Generate 3. I like the G3 on paper but the sound didn’t capture me. No dis to Joranalogue, but this just sounds deeper, less buzzy/fuzzy on the fm, and more alive and warm if that means anything. This and Instruo CS-L and I’m set.

On my ZPO the SAW has no Kink or Cut in it. The Cut in this video is due to having Modulation plugged into the ZP Control Input, on the ZPO that happens when you plug something into ZP Control but otherwise they are all clean.

@27:15 "even is like a saw-sine hybrid" it very likely is simply that. One octave up is the "second" harmonic (the first harmonic being the fundamental), and a saw wave has all harmonics, so a saw wave one octave up (here, the up saw) gives all harmonics of the second harmonic, ie all the even harmonics. Add a sine wave at the fundamental to this and you get the even wave. So, unless I'm quite mistaken, the even output is simply a mix of the up saw and the sine output.
@DivKid Жыл бұрын
mixing waves is a simple way of making new ones, both for users with a mixer module (they're so important and often so lacking in systems) or for the circuit design. So I'd imagine it is just a mix of them. Considering people often don't use utilities to mix things like this (not to judge or overly generalise) it's nice to present these things and then people can try them out.

What's with the noise at 9:56? Lots of clicks and pops as well at 10:24. User BasariStudios posted on muffs that: "Also keep in mind Divkid's video ZPO is actually not working the way it supposed to. It needs Calibration, the Waves are totally Asymmetrical and no, there is no KINK in the SAW or in the Waves, that is due to probably Ben forgetting the Modulation plugged into the ZP Control. But the VCO clearly is not working properly which also affects the Sound a lot." Is this the case and this VCO is noisy? Great demo as always and very nice VCO...minus the noise.
@SteadyStateFate4 жыл бұрын
nektar Yes, unfortunately Ben’s ZPO was mis-calibrated. This is entirely my fault as at the time, an unknown faulty psu was used during the procedure. A grave circumstance and I take all the blame. As for the noise, could be the mis-calibration or perhaps clipping from the combined waveforms (greater amplitude). But I can assure you that the ZPO is absolutely not noisy.

I got excited about this module after watching the overview. I went int store to try it out and that's when I realized it is not a Dual Oscillator! It has wave A and Wave B out, but only 1 pitch control! Can someone please tell what is the point of having separate outputs for both the Wave A & Wave B if you cant tune them independently?
@SteadyStateFate4 жыл бұрын
1. the two wave scanners fade between pulse-saw-tri-sine. The morph control fades between to two scanners so you can mix any of those waves together, and anything in between. 2. you can achieve a pseudo stereo waveform output by using the two wave scanner outputs.
@smashsystem4 жыл бұрын
I'm so torn between this, the Instruo Cs L or Trident.
@DivKid4 жыл бұрын
They're all very different (well all high end analogue oscillators) this is a single oscillator with lots of waveform outs, unique approach to thru zero modulation with on board sub and unique PWM. Trident is 3 oscillators which "Zing" modulation. This is just sync and ring modulation which can be done on the others but it's massively convenient to have it on buttons and on board. Plus it's 3 VCOs! Additional symmetry modulation etc. Cs-L is Instruo's take on a "complex/dual oscillator" which are all based on Don Buchla's 259 design. This is highly expanded and offers lots of modulation through FM, ring mod, folding, subs etc. I understand it's hard to pick but I'd first narrow down how many oscillators you need and what approach you'd like to take.
@smashsystem4 жыл бұрын
@@DivKid I know Ben, I know. Wish I could buy them all haha. So far I got Piston Honda mk3, DFAM plus a Dominion as soundsources. A complex oscillator is tempting but the Trident just seems to be pure bliss. Decisions decisions...

I'm considering adding one of these to my drum box. Would this make a solid oscillator for designing drum sounds? Or should I look for something else?
@Oilpanicmusic4 жыл бұрын
SSF does make some dedicated modules for drum sounds. I have the entity and it is awesome and fast for creating my own samples quickly. But this unit is much more of a general oscillator, and would require other modules to make drum sounds.

@@DivKid sine is really asymmetrical. v/0ct response is a bit off, saw wave has a substantial kink in the middle, (bigger than the one in this vid, and not as a result of zero point control)

@@catscanmeow I can see that Divkids Module is not calibrated either, the SAW Wave has no Kink, unless you have plugged in some modulation into Zero Point Control, it should be clean otherwise. I'd have been all over this if they offered a silver faceplate. I'm still quite tempted. But I have to voice my objection to this industry wide shift in the only way that really matters: with my wallet. At least offer a silver replacement panel like Noise Engineering and Qu-bit do.
@DivKid4 жыл бұрын
I like the black faceplate, but I do agree silver is nice also. I like the Stereo Dipole and Muton right next to the ZPO here so I imagine a silver panelled ZPO would look good to. Lots moving to all black and I'd prefer options to be available and for mixtures of panels in my system. I'm into the frankensynth look of it all so I aren't fussed for uniformity personally.
