@@JHJLIM Well you got ONE presold customer here! I, like a lot of people, thought the Tri-ger was brilliant but hamstrung by (as I recall) the absence of quantization? Or was it a clock-related issue? Either way, we'd buy it! Well, *I'd* buy it! :D

Ben gives a great overview of who’s making it. (Glasgow Synth Guild) I also wrote a bit of blurb on the background as an intro in the new release’s user manual. In short, it’s the 4th module I ever designed. And I wanted it in my systems again. Contributing it to the Guild means it’s supporting a great team of makers :)

This thing is rad! If only those individual channel out jacks were pre-quantizer individual channel CV input jacks...
@DivKid10 ай бұрын
so you want it to be a sequential switch with a quantiser of the output of the switch?
@jaymurphy130610 ай бұрын
Occasionally, for sure! Just to provide a CVable way to vary the notes of the sequence. Plenty of uses for the channel outs of course. Rad sequencer and wonderful vid as always! thanks!@@DivKid
@DivKid10 ай бұрын
oh I agree, that's a nice thing to have. A 'step' could then be an LFO that creates an arpeggio type ramp just on one step. Getting 'modular' by breaking down the bits that make a sequencer and patching your own leads to all sorts of great stuff like that.
@jasoneskridge6453Ай бұрын
hey the GlasgowSynthGuild page seems to be down for months now. it asks users to login or something. any idea when this will be fixed so one can order an OctTone??

You can get them on - info (at) glasgowsynthguild.com - though I'm sure they'll get the website back up once they can. They're busy with all sorts of good stuff up there.

HARD SYNC One thing I wasn’t quite clear on: with the scale quantizing, what determines the root note of the scale?
@JHJLIM10 ай бұрын
That's defined by the oscillator. Voltages from the oct tōne are quantised over 0-5V, so if the oscillator is tuned to C at 0V then the quantised scale will extrapolate from there with C as Root :)
@DivKid10 ай бұрын
Jason beat me to it, but yes the oscillator tuning is the root. The way I think about it that helps cement the learning of this stuff was that the quantiser the available notes on the fret board but the coarse/fine tuning the equivalent of me tuning the string on a guitar. The fret numbers changes notes if tune the string down, though the patterns and intervals stay the same. I actually think quantisers that set a root note can be more confusing. At first it's easy to think, I'll take a F harmonic minor (or whatever note and scale type) but it's not those notes without tuning the oscillators to correspond to it anyway.

Is this not the same as the QU BIT one?
@DivKid3 ай бұрын
it's made by the the original designer of the Qu Bit one, Jason was part of Qu Bit years back before moving back to Scotland. Building on those ideas, adding features etc.
@craig_z10 ай бұрын
So if I had an idea for a module, could the GSG help make it a reality? I have a subset of the skills needed for a prototype. Also, I love how the leds create an infinity symbol when you link the two Oct tones.
@DivKid10 ай бұрын
I would contact them to inquire as I aren't sure how much of the process they would take on, I do know they are already very busy with things lined up.

So is there a connection between the manifold research centre and the Glasgow synth guild?
@DivKid10 ай бұрын
Not sure directly with the guild, but yeah Aimo that set up Manifold Research Centre (was at least, I aren't sure now) was working with Instruo. He designed the Lion with Instruo too.

The retail price is lower than its predecessor was. Keep in mind an averaged postage cost factored in so it’s included within in a single fixed price. Material costs and labour are all tightly calculated for viability. It’s all small scale batch production, but the entire operation is controlled and run entirely by the builders! Which is the model of the Guild. No middle man involved. The builders and future developers will directly benefit from this model. And it means the weirdness of what’s produced can be limitless! Lower risk factor and very fun to be part of collaborations :)
