I get what Jen is saying. Its not being in a room with 30 people, its being in a room with a large group of peers that are fiercely judging you and often ridiculing you. That shit doesn't happen in adulthood. They can't see it because their jobs are social media where that type of bullshit continues. Most adults aren't subjected to bullying on a daily basis and I agree with Jen that subjecting children to it doesn't prepare them for the "real world."

No, homeschooling is the WORST u can do to ur kids. Social interaction is essential for their development and also, they need peers their age to have fun and create good memories. Is never healthy to separate a child from the rest of the world. On the other hand, sounds like u suffered from bullying, which is NOT normal and shouldn't have happened to you. Parents should always be aware of their kids wellbeing.

I don't share her point, no that situation won't repeat exactly like that. But being exposed to 30 different people with different characters and personalities, both good and bad let's you be extremely prepared for when you encounter any type of person later in life, let be 30 or 2 at a time. It also let's you observe different dynamics and situations between those kids even if they don't affect you directly, which again, is educating you unconsciously.

I got the most major ick from the homeschooling discussion. Jen was fully right. I was homeschooled and every workplace I’ve been in, I’ve always had the thickest skin, I don’t get easily offended, I get along with everyone and maintain relationships with my coworkers even after I quit, I let things roll off my shoulder and don’t need to take meds to feel okay at home, 100% not sheltered. Honestly their mindset on homeschooling is so close-minded. Geesh that was hard to watch. Also thankful I got to skip the relentless bullying from other kids throughout school and my parents helped foster my self-esteem so I have confidence now as an adult.

honestly i think Jen raises a good point. It is a bit bizarre that sometimes kids go through so much unnecessary stuff that while it can give them a thick skin (best case), stats and reality shows that people get a lot of trauma and basically form their entire personality based on what they go through in school, which is most likely out of their control. When in life are you going to be in a room with 30 people that can behave like 100% assh*les, inmature, and can get away with saying horrible things to you? you can say in some work places it could be like that, but its not super likely, you get a few bad coworkers at most, to which you can just learn over time to deal with it. Even though i agree that school can be a good and learning experience, her points are not insane. Its a forced environment that you dont replicate that much after adulthood. Its literally putting together people who are inmature and are sorting their own lives and stuff, in a room together, while maybe a more interesting thing would be that having smaller, more focused communities or being home-schooleed provides you with more love and nurturing for you to grow into a stronger and more rounded person, without the risk of random sh*t up to chance. idk.
@user-il5nw8yu4i
@user-il5nw8yu4i 4 ай бұрын
yeah agreed. brandon made a good point that both homeschool and public school can negatively affect you in different ways. homeschooling can stunt your social development and schools teach you teamwork, but that can be surely worked on, if the parents put in effort public school tho? its a chaotic, environment that can’t be controlled, kids can be so fucking mean, often downright cruel and out of control in a way most adults never are. imo in schools kids get exposed to things that can traumatize them and yeah shape their personality negatively because some random kid bullied them or said something offhanded about their appearance. and kids are like sponges when they grow up - they absorb everything and it sticks with them for the rest of their lifes, so unless they are really resilient - actions and words will hurt them long term. on the other hand most adults won’t be as affected by things like that cause our brains are already developed enough and thats not even mentioning how 8 hours of school can be shortened into like 4 and not drag on needlessly

I 100% agree. School helped me to cause severe depression that went on for a decade, low selfesteem and just lots of pain. If I did not go to school that would not have been the case. I got thick skin from healing myself on my own, school did not do that.

Absolutely. I remember a quote from my favorite show Burn Notice: “Think of Michael and Nate as bottles. One shattered into a jagged edge weapon and one shattered into a million pieces that cannot be put back together”. The trauma can create something beautiful, but will most likely destroy.

Felt bad for mama Jen. She has such a pure heart. Homeschooled children statistically are always smarter. They always score higher on tests, are more successful adults,and they statistically have better self-esteem and form healthy attachment, among many other things. It impacts them positively more than not. People don't understand that social awkwardness is a perception because kids in school mimick one another and lack individuality. It's way cooler to be your own person and be unique. Sure social cues may be lacking but that's only a bad thing to people because it makes them different. Being different isn't actually bad. Most home schooled kids grow out of this awkwardness through highschool or college or the workforce. Social cues are learned . People mirror behaviours naturally and if not doing that right away is the worst case, then that's not a great argument when there's so many more benefits to home schooling. Do some research you'll see homeschooling is becoming way more popular and the indoctrination of kids is harming them more and more as time goes on. I'm on mama Jen's side with this one 💯.

As a kid who was homeschooled till highschool, let me put this out there: Homeschooling is not a sheltering, unsocialized experience. It's a form of education. We don't live under rocks, we just do the majority of our work at home. There are just as weird of kids who go to public school, it just depends on the way the parents raised them, not the education. Thank you Jen. Claudia and Kennedy evidently didn't have a good experience, but that's not how it works for everyone. It seems like Claudia was homeschooled until she was around 7/8 if I'm getting that right (2nd grade). Of course she is going to feel some sort of separation anxiety because she’s a little kid all on her own. I believe that would be true for most every kid of that age.

Jen needs her own podcast and I think Claudia should do the job of setting up a real studio in her house. Like look up how to do that. Put a little effort in, begging you please. Get headphones. Practice! Plan! Or keep doing this and it’s fine but it’s not very serious. But it is its own type of thing. But I would love to see Claudia just try harder in life. It’s just boring seeing her have so much potential due to time and so much space because of her big house. Their poor mom could be so uplifted by her own podcast. I’d rather hear from Jen and she can direct what she wants. Idk. These are ideas.

As a homeschooler who's been homeschooled my whole life, I can say that the separation anxiety is not a homeschool thing, it's just an age thing. I had it when I was younger, but it gradually went away throughout middleschool. I have friends who are homeschooled, public schooled, and even private schooled, but none of us still have separation anxiety.

I have literally never left a comment on any YT video ever BUT I just need to let you guys know that I never expected you to post this type of content (podcast ish?) AND I'M LIVING FOR IT. I expect it to be very successful because of how successful your vlog-style content has been in the past. I think your audience loves to see the more personal and less stylised videos, where everyone just participates in a longer conversation that lets every family member shine/express their POV. I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I WANT THIS TYPE OF CONTENT TO BECOME A REGULAR THING. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy your other videos that have a kind of scripted game setting that showcases your different opinions on different subjects, but it is so much more natural and enjoyable to watch how those differences come to light during longer conversations that encompass many different topics.

I was thinking the same thing recently cuz I have a small child and something my mother told me changed my mind a bit - school is only good because the kids have to deal with problems by themselves there. They have to learn how to deal with bullies, with unpleasant kids and with basically anything "uncomfortable". In group sports, arts and whatever, kids are in smaller groups and 100% of the time they MUST do some activity which prevents them from actually spending free time with each other and facing the above mentioned issues. I am not saying kids should be bullied but unfortunately there will always be bullies, mean, nasty people who mean you bad and people should start understanding how to deal with such people and how to recognize such people from early age so they can avoid/handle them when they grow up. Actually the responsibility of the parent is to pay attention and make sure to handle such situations properly and I believe most kids are traumatized by bullies because their parents didn't handle the situation well. I have been bullied at school by older kids many times but I never actually thought that I was bullied, I just accepted it as older kids being shitty and I just stayed away from them as much as possible. Those are important experiences that you can't get anywhere else.. Life is funny, usually the people with the easiest lives are the most unhappy and they think that everything is so bad for them, so the more you protect and shelter your child the more unhappy and ungrateful it will grow up to be and I have seen this hundreds of times, I believe it must have been also proven in some researches but I don't know...

Homeschool mom here, my kids are so social, and so fun, they are confident, and they have learned hard lessons, it’s really not sheltered, it depends on the parents. There’s definitely kids that are different, but it depends on the parents. Many famous actors & singers were homeschooled and are amazing successful talented people. I don’t think it shelters what the real World is. Love these young ladies & Brandon but they don’t have the maturity or experience to see the bigger picture. When you have children it inspires you to protect your children as long as possible. Homeschooling is such an amazing thing if done right.i feel Claudia’s comments were very tone deaf..she has mean girl energy and was probably Mrs popular in school because of how beautiful she is. Seems as if she lacks life experience coming from public school because there was no actual knowledge on how homeschooling works. Maybe if she was homeschooled longer she would be less judgmental, humble and kinder.

Lol as someone who was homeschooled and homeschools, we have way more life experience compared to those in public school. I hate the stereotypes that people put out there about homeschoolers. My siblings were homeschooled and now we have a nurse, a welder and an artist (who has worked on tv sets). I’m with Jen here.

I completely disagree homeschool shelters you. As someone who was homeschooled from kindergarten all the way through high school I absolutely do not regret it or resent my parents. I got a job at a restaurant too at the age of 16 and danced for most of my life. Not once did I ever feel behind educationally as well. It’s not like homeschoolers weren’t allowed outside in the “real world” many have extracurricular just like other kids. In fact, because I was homeschooled I got to make friends in almost every surrounding county public/private schools at our church. If anything, because I was homeschooled I’m able to identify what’s good or bad from the “real world”. I wasn’t constantly looking to my peers for guidance I had parents who taught me well and did not shelter me in the slightest. Homeschooling does not make you unsociable, weird, or sheltered from the “real world” at all.

Awwww I love mama Walsh. Jen you're so sweet. I see you and your vision. We can't all do what we had planned or wanted to, you tried and did the best you could at the time and for where you were at. You have such a beautiful heart. Your kids (guys, you're) alright. Y'all are dealing with how you perceived your parents and living situation at the time. Your mom is so great, I bet you guys know it and see it and yeah maybe cringe a bit at her One love nature but man y'all give her a hard time huh 😆 mama walsh you're so sweet

I can't tell you how much I relate to this as a child of divorced parents and your parents having an awkward relationship. My parents were very immature when they had me and my siblings, and were on and off for quite sometime, until their eventual divorce. My dad has always been super awkward with my mom when she made efforts to interact in social settings. I agree with Jen here. I always defended my dad and had excuses as to why he couldn't have conversations with my mom. It took me a while to learn that my dad needed to do his part and be an adult in a conversation.

I was home-schooled through high school and interacted with a lot of age groups outside the parent or teacher authority sphere and was told I was very mature and better socialized because of it. It was the intergenerational trauma that made me weird. And yeah, we had groups too, but they were usually too religious for us or indeed had coddling going on, but that could also be because I had this experience in a small Maine town. I would say I'm about as socially nervous as our lovely Kennedy here, but again, that's defo from trauma for me.
