I made this video to encourage others to learn how to maintain their bikes themselves and to document the 1st service of my bike for warranty purposes.

Just an FYI, I always open the oil fill cap/plug to allow air to help force more of the old oil out of the engine. The aim is to remove as much of the used oil as possible. After draining the oil from the case, I leave the plug/bolt out when I remove the filter for the same reason and just let it sit for a while and trickle out. The oil should be warm of course. Cheers!!

Always been told not to use car oil, supposedly not good on wet clutches. I use mobil 1 motorcycle oil

HilltopZombieShop Motorcycle oil also has to lubricate your clutch so using regular automotive oil is a bad idea. That article just mentions viscosity
@willlichdepuzi60856 жыл бұрын
Is your clutch still OK with that oil?

My new 2022 ktm had the oil changed at 100 miles, 350 miles, then the 1st service at 620 miles. That is get the metal out 1st and 2nd. By the time of the 1st service came the amount of metal in the oil was almost zero. That is how you keep you new bike in good shape. Just running nasty oil is nuts.
@8OneOfTheNobodies84 жыл бұрын
According to the service manual oil filter needs to torqued to 17 nm, it also states " Hand tightening of the oil filter can not be allowed since it does not reach to this tightening torque" the service manual says to use special tool Oil filter wrench : 57001-1259 But I guess most will just do them hand tight :) .. but that is what the service manual says.
@raptus9115 Жыл бұрын
Massive load of BS on that advice, I think they mean if it's an OEM oil filter should always be hand tightened, anything more than a hand tighten on a 3rd party filter and it'll just seize in future and you'll have a serious job of getting it off without damaging the existing thread.

Ok, ok. I have never had any issues with my clutch on this bike or any other, but I will start using Motorcycle oil instead of auto oil.

@MrAl673 жыл бұрын
@@edtechlounge Nope. You are asking for trouble using car oil with you bikes. They have friction modifiers that are not compatible with the clutch. Spend the bucks to get proper bike oil.

Crank it up, let it idle for say 30 seconds to a minute. Then shut off the engine, wait for another 2 minutes and then re check the level in the oil (lube) window. I find Honda Petrol car OIL filter performing far better than the stock one, in my z900 2020 ( TFT console with riding modes). Mobil 1 indeed is performing well. 👍 for the video.

Do you see a need for a steering stabilizer? I just got a Z900 and think it would be needed

Not at all. I have never had to fight the bars or had a wobble. Highest speed I've been was 120 mph, but I have absolute confidence in the steering.

@@HilltopZombieShop hello, for starters, I would suggest getting a copy of the Service Manual. I did, and I dont even have delivery of my new Z900 yet. As an example, brake cable play should be checked against the spec, how much free play the cable has before cylinder pressure is felt. On most bikes it's like 2-3mm. Of the slack is greater you must adjust. You also should measure the brake pads for wear and again compare them to the Service manual. Thats just two examples. If you look at the appropriate sections in the owners manual, they cover some of the more basic adjustments and specification. The 600 mile list is actually quite extensive, most are visual with some lubrication points, but one wrong guess on something like a clutch cable adjustment and you will have a bad day that could have been prevented. It took me a few hours on my Z400 to do the 600 mile list and I learned a lot about my Z. I didnt mean be hypercritical in my original response, but subjective evaluations make me cringe. Cheers.
