I did an efficiency test before I get asked about it. I ran it for 1 hour and 34 minutes on 1 gallon of oil. I could have stretched it out a bit more, but it was cold outside! Lol,I think that's pretty impressive considering the size of this thing!

The old eyecrometer is my favorite measuring device! Congrats on the waste oil burner win! I'm getting ready to build my first one. I'm building a small one as I am eventually going to wrap a sand battery around the first meter or so of the exhaust riser and run the unit indoors with external air intake/exhaust. Cheers!

Nice, needs more air inside the drum. The flames are igniting OUTSIDE of the drum when the gasses get O² they spontaneously ignite (could be a nice boom if the interior flames drop long enough to then suck intake O² and hit the auto-ignition point exploding. There was a YT video several years ago when a guy had this happen to him 2nd/3rd deg burns on him and lost a shed 😢😢 Looks great but you need the extra air added mid and lower in bbl😊

@markmatt9174 I realized after I was done filming and just watching the burner. I had too much fuel in the bottom. I adjusted it, and it burned beautiful inside only. I have only fired this 4 times, so I'm still tuning in to what works best. Thank you for your suggestions.

some have taken a punch lke probe and poked into holes and bent them to angels to encourage a cyclone effect when air exits holes.. something to experiment with
@karlsoffroad21 күн бұрын
@coachgeo The exhaust pipe is only 14 gauge, so it doesn't offer much area to direct the air when it exits. The way I did it worked out for holding the whole thing up off the bottom, too. The experiments never stop until perfection is acquired! Lol

@coachgeo I guess I missed what you were saying at first. After I commented, I realized what you meant. It's been a long day! Lol
@MrItsthething20 күн бұрын
Looks like you have incomplete combustion going on. The flame coming out the vent is due to vaporized, unburned oil and decomposition products catching fire once they reach more air. You can tell it's running rich inside since you have flames around the air jets, meaning that it's only burning where air is introduced, the rest of the combustion chamber is oxygen-starved. It's a good, simple design, but might be better if you could add a baffle between the lower "T" shape and the rest of the combustion chamber, or add more air vents inside the combustion chamber in order to add more air. If you pipe it to a heat exchanger without adding more air, a lot of that blue flame energy will be wasted due to incomplete combustion.
@karlsoffroad20 күн бұрын
@MrItsthething this is after I got it tuned. I was giving it too much oil. New burner, so I had to test drive for a bit. I also have the hole cut right in line with the top set of air holes. facebook.com/share/v/1AuBbYkatA/

I'm going to have to copy your idea. I wonder if you had 1/8" holes it might not force as much flame out of the barrel?
@karlsoffroad3 күн бұрын

@johnpisciotto556620 күн бұрын
Carl do you think the blue flame is better because the oil might be getting heated more, thinning it out for better vaporization. Im just wondering because in my small pot burner i get some blue flame and my oil is cold like yours as i'm in Windsor across the river from Detroit. Wondering if my oil was heated if the blue flame would improve.
@karlsoffroad20 күн бұрын
@johnpisciotto5566 The blue flame is more efficient. It's only burning the vapors. Heating your oil might help. Everything on this one takes place in the burner. It has just enough room to hold some super heated oil and mix with the air just right. I normally don't care about blue flame, but I was challenged to make a burner out of a drum, and this was the result. Happy accident, really. I'm just on the other side of the Blue Water Bridge.
