I’m working on mine. It’s a variable speed blower so I can tune it. I put a chimney on mine, and that makes it hotter. So hot it melted the thin steel 6” stovepipe chimney down to a blob using waste oil. Now I realize I have a metal foundry, not the heater I wanted. But the ability to get the right air/fuel ratio and the chimney/flu that holds the heat down in the bowl makes a huge difference.

Very nice concept, I love the prototype and the concept of pre-heating the air. May need a rod in the centre or a bit of a ring on top of the burn chamber to concentrate the heat.

I did that previously, and it made it more difficult to clean out the burner. I might add it just to test again.

Something I have not seen you try that I had good luck with is taking your oil feed line and making a few wraps around the burn chamber Once it gets hot the oil starts to vaporize in the line and you burn it as a gas.

I will definitely try that with veg oil. I found it to be problematic with motor oil. I appreciate the suggestion. Thanks for watching!

Maybe try a reostat control for the bounce house blower so you can control its output, like a router control.

To control the amount the blower kicks out you can either block off the inlet for the blower, it won't hurt it just make it turn faster as there is less load on it or have a bypass tube to blow fresh air into the room and not the burner. Or go the electric route.@@karlsoffroad

Maybe preheat the chamber with something like a blow torch or a heat gun for about 5 minutes or so before adding the veggie oil in so it's not so hard to get going at first? You could also try to add something on top of the oil like kerosene to burn and maybe get the same effect. While the kerosene or whatever you choose burns it heats up the oil and the chamber and the veggie oil gets going a lot easier.

I normally use a bit of diesel, and that works well. I appreciate the suggestion!

Might you consider preheating the veg oil via wrapping feed tube around body pre entry, hot veg oil burns much easier

I do like the idea of a flap. I might use that in an oil drum and I may be able to put 5gallon 25 litre containers in it to get rid of the darn things! Pity your burner didn't take off the way you wanted, I'm sure if you slowly introduced the air with the bouncy blower the unit would eventually get red hot and you would get immense heat and fire out of it! Veg oil is horrible fuel to get started and if it's got any water in it terrible for burning. It's weird stuff, I have been using it in the past and it's like it has pockets of water that appear out of the blue and makes the burn sputter and spatter and even go out even though it's been burning for an hour really well. It makes lots of soot too, even if you can't see the smoke there's soot in it. I had a run one time getting friends and family to give me any left over veg oil they had. Great, I thought, put into the burner and to my horror the stink coming from it was horrendous!!! Christ knows what crap they were eating cus it should smell like the sea front where they cook donuts not this sewage I experienced! Sometimes engine oil is much more pleasant 🤧

I just ran the veg oil because I was curious. I know it will do well with waste motor oil. I thought it ran pretty well with the small blower, which is great for efficiency. I will be installing this burner as is in my outdoor boiler, and I'll see if it's up to the task.I'll know more in a few days on how it performs long term.

I think you will get plenty of heat out of it for your boiler especially if you keep it sheltered from the wind. The metal you have used is heavy duty so it will take a bit of time to go into cruise mode :) I have just received my pump so soon I will be able to heat up my own tank, I think you will enjoy the setup I will be using :)@@karlsoffroad

I believe you could do better by having a small cup inside to hold and vaporize the oil (it would also be easier to clean out the crap). The inner cup would likely get hot faster and improve the burn.

Sam new subscriber thanks for sharing just curious I like making burners also and they do quite well what area are you in because the flame tends to swirl clockwise or counterclockwise if if the air enters the wrong side it fights itself but just curious if you found that a problem let me know thanks for sharing

Naturally draft air works best. Especially when the blowers are so loud. I do see advantages of these setups; one doesnt need to vent outside or need for a pipe to create heat. Does work well on a shop and open spaces to heat up quickly. The way i heat my home is with with wood and other times oil. Oil burns quick and real hot real quick; quite dangerous if not watched and regulated often. I burn oil for an hour or two and babysit it; and house gets from 50 to 80 degrees in less than 2 hours. There are videos in my channel of mods and different burns. I try to stay between 500-800 degrees max. I will continue to modify it to burn cleaner and longer. Still creates a bit of black smoke out the chimney: and a bit of a sheet of soot on the walls after 1 or 2 days of burning. Creosoot needs 1100+ degrees in order to burn off. That is way too hot for my liking. Wouldnt try it at home.

I heat my home and my shop through my homemade outdoor boiler. No smoke at all, and I only check on it every 24 hours or so. I burned wood for 15 years, and I'll never go back. I show that in a previous video titled "How I heat my home for free" Thanks for watching! The burner is actually making most of the noise. The blower is very quiet.

@firemanjim9025 ,that's what I burn. I had a viewer ask about veg oil, so I figured I'd give it a try. Worked better in my other burners. I heat my shop and my home with used motor oil. I have quite a few videos if you'd like to check them out. I show failures and success. Hopefully, it will save people some time and money.
