This panel can put out close to 100 watts kzbin.infoUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle.The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts.If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.

I work on old aluminum dry bulk tankers, and whenever there's rubber to aluminum contact, you still get galvanic corrosion on the aluminum side. We just put duct tape on the aluminum wherever it contacts anything else and that stops any corrosion from happening.

All a while I was watching and listening to your reasoning for what, why and how you were doing things. One thing came to my mind, from a different prospective. What if you became disabled or G-D forbid, died? How would Ceder be able to maintain this system by herself? This thought reminded me of a situation were a friends husband fell off his roof, and became disabled. I feel its imperative to figure out a way to electronically shift the angle of the panels, WITHOUT CLIMBING UP ON THE ROOF AT ALL. G-D BLESS.

Linear actuators. Id love to see you use some linear actuators to be able to change the angle any time WITHOUT going on the roof. If the control was in the utility room you could watch the input go up until you hit optimum angle. As a nerd I would also incorporate an inclinometer and make a chart of optimum angle by day. I might even use an arduino or raspberry pi to change the angle each day automagically. But Id start with a simple linear actuator and DPDT momentary switch.

no real benefit to change by the day at most by the month but you forget once snowfall starts he will need max angle to prevent snow buildup. Yes old satellite tv receivers and their actuator would be cheap and easy to use just set a "satellite " every 3 degrees or so for about 10 satellites or less

Define the potential of panels mounted on a full dawn to dusk rotating and tilting tracker as 100%. Panels on a fixed mount facing solar south with a tilt up from horizontal at approximately your latitude will produce 60% to 70% of potential. Adjusting the tilt twice per year, about 1/2 your latitude flatter for winter and 1/2 your latitude steeper for summer, will increase production to 70% to 75% of potential. Adjusting every week will get you to about 80% or maybe 85%. Adjusting tilt and angle 3 times per day will get you to about 90% to 95%. The constant tracking is needed to get the last 5% to 10%. Missing an adjustment will be much worse than using the fixed mount. Trackers were questionable when panels dropped under $10 per watt, justifiable only if panels were filling all the space available and more were needed. Now that panels are well under $1 per watt, a tracker cannot be justified in any but the most extreme circumstances, and the additional cost and complexity of adjustable mounts must be justified against the cost (dollars and space and work required) of panels and the risk of missing an adjustment or deciding to be lazy and not adjust. Even putting panels up on racks is now only justified to keep large animals from walking on them or to prevent being buried in snow.

A hen walk was a must too just hang over the ridge and you have both hands free. That was a long time ago when the boss got thirty bob ( two and half dollars) every job I was needed to go up on any roof. Still I got the view of my city from many angles and all the tennis balls I found in the gutters, happy days they were not. p.s. I had to supply my own socks

Should have completely dipped your mounting plates in Flexpaint, or any other type of protective sealer, after drilling the mounting holes. Corrosive problem solved! Water will be the connective supply charge between the 2 metals. Leaving the top of the plate unprotected, when it rains or snow melts, water will build up and touch both metals together, creating your galvanic corrosion. Fully dipping the mounting plates secures a perfect wraparound cover that should last forever. Love your channel. Keep up the great work.

Mike - have you ever done editing? Have you ever made a recording (there is no film involved) while you completed a task? These episodes are well-edited; that takes talent and even for the best editors, it is a time consuming task if one wishes to maintain quality. Recording while you complete a task adds to the time it takes to complete the task. That adds to the WORK. You Tubbing IS a lot of work and to achieve the level of success Heath and Cedar have accomplished is admirable. I am glad they are paid well for their fine efforts in entertaining the masses (338K subscribers). "Why work" (?) indeed.

Here where I live people often get scammed into paying hundreds of euros every year to get their solar panels professionally cleaned, when in reality just rinsing them off once a year (ideally without contact, so just a hose and no cloth or sponge or anything) works best to keep them at peak efficiency for as long as possible.

That’s double the output of your current array in the same space… mounts are expensive and time consuming… just swop out your old 200w panels, there’s a good used market and the new panels are not that much more expensive (less than a 3rd). The panels you are alluding too are very expensive compared to say 435 watt panels and also are larger than his 275 watt panels generally 40x66 for his panels and up to about 40x 78-82 inches or more for greater than 400 watt P anels. They also count on reflected light to hit the underside of the panels which likely would not add much in this situation. Right now price goes way up over 435 watts.
@teekay1785
@teekay1785 3 жыл бұрын
For the same size panels 40x66 335 watts is the point at which price increases quickly. 275 watts (not 200 watts) to 335 watts is about a 22 % increase in power. This would be the most cost effective price point at this time.

I hate that you've had to redo a number of your major homestead projects. Though you are using rubber between the aluminum and galvanized roof, aren't you passing some galvanic corrosive action through by using metal screws without using an insulating washer? I will be installing several 410W bi-facial solar panels myself shortly so I need to space them slightly higher than normal above my roof. I definitely want them hinged for altering between two different angles annually. We live in Central Florida so my angles will be considerably shallower than yours. Anxious to see your next video. it snows heavily in Idaho, I would be looking for a simple way to heat the tin roof a bit, causing snow to slide off, but then that won't work once you put panels on the lower roof. I know nothing about putting up solar panels, but I enjoy watching the process. Thanks for the videos !

@@MrSeanG-of1zc I hate to think what the cost of a new pick-up truck would be in these current economic times. Maybe upwards of $50,000. I think Heath has done very well in re-habbing these older vehicles that he has. Not many people have this level of mechanical skill. I have also actually been eyeing the firewood stacked under the roof outside the "shop" in the background of these videos for a bit, and the pile really doesn't look too bad at this point. And seems to be growing. Perhaps it is being slowly added to, with no direct video made about the growing pile. He might stress about it anyway, though. Speaking as a person that once lived with firewood and a woodstove as my sole source of heating for many years, I know that one can never have too much firewood, because one never knows what a coming winter might bring.

@@AParr-cp4ib if he had any mechanical skills he would just rebuild the transmission in his truck. All he does with all the junk he buys is make it look cool. It’s Like buying a $500 car and putting 5k worth of wheels and stereo in it. All the cash he’s wasted on junk he could have a nice truck that will do everything he needs it to do. I’d keep a junker just for plowing tho or buy an old dozer to plow and he could grade the road with it too in the off months. In my experiences always get more truck than you think you need. With all the projects he has going on at one time, he needs to be tinkering with truck as much as I need a third nut.

That inner tube rubber is nearly indestructible in these applications. Although the black anodized coating on the panels offer some protection, you have the same problem bolting down the aluminum frames to the steel unistrut, which is why most panel racking systems are aluminum rails. I used gaskets I cut out of inner tube between the panels and unistrut on my 10kw grid tied array. 8 years and so far so good.

Slip on some of those old rubber shoe covers that people still wear in Minnesota. Or...get another inner tube and make some straps to go over your shoes. It's just a circular cut through the whole inner tube so it looks like a band. They crisscross over your shoe. I use bandsthem for exercising like stretchy bands.

Heath have you considered perhaps fitting some connection points under the eaves of the main roof in order to secure a safety line to the main building? You could fashion them to make them look both decorative and to do this job. If you were to put say 3 or 4 across the main length this would allow you to safely traverse whilst having a backup fixed point that would ensure only a minimal drop onto the lower roof rather than a potentially catastrophic full fall to the ground. There are a great many harnesses out there that would allow you freedom of movement whilst keeping you safe should you have to go up there in bad weather. Please consider it bud as all it takes is one poorly placed boot or forgetfulness through being preoccupied with the job in hand and it could be game over for you. I’m sure you have weighed up the pros and cons of wearing a harness or connecting to a proper safety line but there is no guarantee with the way you are approaching working at potentially life threatening or altering heights. You are a bright guy Heath and I know you know it makes sense to limit the dangers of working at height. 🙏🏼✝️🙏🏼 That aside peace and love to your family as always. Ps Rock climbers wear purpose made shoes 😉

Go look on KZbin Heath there are numerous videos of Soldiers surviving a head shot purely because they had a Kevlar helmet on. Sure Johnny Rambo survived the 100 foot fall through the fir trees and stitched himself up using the sewing kit in his knife but the fact is had he not bought a knife with a sewing kit in it he would most probably have bled to death or died of gangrene before taking out an entire detachment of the home guard single handed with nothing more than a hunting knife ahead band and poorly acted script 🤷🏻‍♂️ You see even the fictitious Johnny Rambo had his basic level of health and safety in mind. 🧐

I have never seen rubber isolator beeing used, normally teflon is used between materials and PP for bolt isolation. Due to this I checked the components in rubber and discovered that one of them is carbon black (graphite). This means that rubber isolation in contact with aluminum becomes a super galvanic corrosion source.
