Hello Leslie, after watching your video I made my ink by just placing the ink cartridge directly into the spray bottle. I didn’t cut the plastic to open the ink cotton up, I just gave it a good shake every hour or so for a couple of days and my results were exactly like yours but without the mess. I didn’t make a video but I guess I can shoot some photos to show you the outcome. When I post the photos I will tag you in my photo video.

Thank you so very much for this tutorial. I so wanted to do some projects using alcohol ink but funds have been a bit short. Had all the tools required and a set of sharpie markers. All I needed was the alcohol. Used 90%, 91% not available locally. Deviated from your tutorial a bit... Soaked the sharpie pieces in 1oz of alcohol squeezed out excess, then soaked again in another 1oz of alcohol to get every bit of color from the sharpie. There looked to be a bit more color left to get So... I Soaked the pieces again in 1oz alcohol for a pastel version of the color. Had a bunch of plastic dropper bottles I had cleaned and saved from my eye drop prescription, that I was going to use for another project. Labeled the bottles and was good to go, make sure you put a piece of transparent tape over the lettering (if not the lettering will be gone by the second use.

you can get permanent markers at some dollar stores they are about $2 for 10-12 markers in a pack. Store bought alcohol inks cost about $12 for 3 - 10z bottles with 3 colors. So this is cheaper even if you bought Sharpies because you are getting 2oz and 12 colors that would cost about $50 to just buy the inks.

Great video, what an eye-opener! I've been wanting to try alcohol inks for a while but been put off by the cost - I couldn't justify it in case it became yet another thing in my craft stash that I might not get to use for lack of space. I have a big container of rubbing alcohol though, and if I buy some Sharpie pens I can have a go at a sensible price. Brilliant. Thank you!

Why not just soak the cartridges in the spray bottle? You won't lose anything to evaporation, you don't have to pour from bottle to bottle and you can use a hemostat to take them out, if you even do. Thanks for all the information! Great vid.

You had quite a bit of ink on your gloves, etc. Why not wipe with, say, rice paper or dry tumble-drier sheets and dab onto plain card or paper as you go. Then you get some free background papers. Not tried it but is just a frugal thought. I’m going to try this process you’ve shared. Should save me many pounds! That gets my vote. Well done and thanks.

Hello, Thanks for your video it's very useful! Big question for you: I live in Europe, in an area where you can't buy spray inks. I'm trying to make my own, but they don't produce Isopropyl Alcohol, they use only Ethyl Alcohol for medical purposes. So would Ethyl Alcohol work for these or would Vodka be better, since it evaporates fast and leaves pigment behind on the surface used?

Awesome tutorial TFS ! One QUESTION tho'. What didn't you like about how your metallics turned out? And could those be mixed with regular colors to make them shimmery?

Wonderful tutorial 👏 I'm just curious to know something before I actually try doing this. Since I'm from a tropical country, I just wanted to know that by leaving the alcohol in the cup for some time in open air, wouldn't it evaporate?

I wish you would have used the colors with a paintbrush...can you make these dyes and paint them with a paintbrush instead of spraying them with a bottle? Really cool! Thanks for sharing. I use ink with paintbrushes i would love to try this if it will turn out okay with a paintbrush

Great idea!! Thanks for this video. I wonder if using only one oz of alcohol would result in a more saturated color. I have some alcohol markers that seem to have dried out and this may be a good way to rejuvenate them and use up whatever is still in the tube.

Thank you for the time you put into your lesson. I will be trying this. One thought the squeeze brushes that you get for a song . The barrel may be filled and even though the brushes are poor, it should be a nifty way to store your inks to take into the field as needed. One caution use care if metallic flecks are in finished ink, possible clogs. What do you think is this worth doing, putting into brush.

You could keep several pens soaking at a time and siphon off the clean alcohol for spray bottles and use the fuzzy alcohol for eye droppers and pipettes for using with lips, soda straws, boba straws, coffee stirrers, hair dryers, mattress blowers, air pumps, personal fans, canned air, etc. The colored coffee filters could be used for something too, I personally would roll a bunch of them them up in giant white tshirts (that have been washed and dried to remove the newly bought yuckies), give them a nice bath in some hot water, then let them soak overnight. No clue what patterns would come out but can imagine they would be interesting.

Hi Louise! Yes, you could do that, but you would run the risk of fibers from the color stick clogging the sprayer!! Thanks for watching!!

the lady you revered to at beginging is still around on facebook but most recent stuff only available through patreon whatever that is. Q. why can you not leave the inners and nib in the bottle with the ink? does it impede colour dispersion? super video. inspired I am. no idea what an exacto knife is except I have a scalpel with similar blade.thanks for the video.😀

Ruth thanks so much for your questions!! Patreon is a format that allows subscribers to financially help out a KZbin channel by signing up to make monthly contributions, it helps us content creators here at KZbin fund our channel in the way of affording more supplies etc. I do not leave the marker cartridges and nibs in the bottle because it could clog the spray tube!! And yes, an exacto knife is very similar to a scalpel!! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!!! Always, Leslie
