Hello Leslie, after watching your video I made my ink by just placing the ink cartridge directly into the spray bottle. I didn’t cut the plastic to open the ink cotton up, I just gave it a good shake every hour or so for a couple of days and my results were exactly like yours but without the mess. I didn’t make a video but I guess I can shoot some photos to show you the outcome. When I post the photos I will tag you in my photo video.

Thank you so very much for this tutorial. I so wanted to do some projects using alcohol ink but funds have been a bit short. Had all the tools required and a set of sharpie markers. All I needed was the alcohol. Used 90%, 91% not available locally. Deviated from your tutorial a bit... Soaked the sharpie pieces in 1oz of alcohol squeezed out excess, then soaked again in another 1oz of alcohol to get every bit of color from the sharpie. There looked to be a bit more color left to get So... I Soaked the pieces again in 1oz alcohol for a pastel version of the color. Had a bunch of plastic dropper bottles I had cleaned and saved from my eye drop prescription, that I was going to use for another project. Labeled the bottles and was good to go, make sure you put a piece of transparent tape over the lettering (if not the lettering will be gone by the second use.

Great video, what an eye-opener! I've been wanting to try alcohol inks for a while but been put off by the cost - I couldn't justify it in case it became yet another thing in my craft stash that I might not get to use for lack of space. you can get permanent markers at some dollar stores they are about $2 for 10-12 markers in a pack. Store bought alcohol inks cost about $12 for 3 - 10z bottles with 3 colors. So this is cheaper even if you bought Sharpies because you are getting 2oz and 12 colors that would cost about $50 to just buy the inks.

You could keep several pens soaking at a time and siphon off the clean alcohol for spray bottles and use the fuzzy alcohol for eye droppers and pipettes for using with lips, soda straws, boba straws, coffee stirrers, hair dryers, mattress blowers, air pumps, personal fans, canned air, etc. The colored coffee filters could be used for something too, I personally would roll a bunch of them them up in giant white tshirts (that have been washed and dried to remove the newly bought yuckies), give them a nice bath in some hot water, then let them soak overnight. No clue what patterns would come out but can imagine they would be interesting.

I'm trying to make my own, but they don't produce Isopropyl Alcohol, they use only Ethyl Alcohol for medical purposes. So would Ethyl Alcohol work for these or would Vodka be better, since it evaporates fast and leaves pigment behind on the surface used?

Do you think that I could use tie dye inks? Is it the same or similar to alcohol inks? I'm asking bc the kids have tie dye inks...
@LesliesCreativeStudio5 жыл бұрын
From what I have researched, tie dye ink consists of paint. Alcohol inks are made from a permanent pigment ink. Tie dye inks will move and react when they get wet (hence pink undershirts in the wash :) ) But alcohol inks are permanent because the ink used is a permanent ink. So, after all that..... You could use tie dye inks if that's what you have on hand, but it will not be permanent (you could spray a sealant on it, but even then, no promises) . I would suggest that you play with it and what it does.

It's such a good method of making inks! But I collect all my sharpies that have ran out of ink, then just directly put them in a little jar or bottle, no need to cut the cartridges open.There's still a lot of ink residue left in the old cartridges, it needs a couple of days to draw out the ink.

Can these be use on tiles? If so, can more alcohol be used to spread the color on the tiles?
@LesliesCreativeStudio4 жыл бұрын
Yes, they can be used on ceramic tiles and absolutely use alcohol to spread the colors!! I would then seal them when when you are done so that you don't lose your creation!!

TFS. I would not handle the ink cotton things and let it soak in the spray bottle. It was hard to see your video. It looks like it was on slow but got the idea. Thanks again

do u think we can use this ink for a stick and poke tattoo? u said u were a alcohol ink tattoo artist
@LesliesCreativeStudio8 жыл бұрын
Abraham, I don't know anything about ink used by tattoo artists. You may want to check with a local tattoo shop to see if it is advisable to use this type of alcohol ink. Thanks so much for your question, I'm sorry I could not have been of more help. Always, Leslie

Abraham Valdez Some use India ink to paint with, but no, you can't use alcohol ink for tattoos. Alcohol ink is highly toxic and not meant for in or around skin. I wear gloves when painting with it.

Do you know if these work well with resin?

Made alcohol inks with the sharpies over 6 years ago but never used them till today and they were still perfect. Just stored them in old pill bottles and surprisingly they were not dried up. I have the Rangers alcohol inks and tried my diy with the Rangers and preferred my diy cause they’re cheaper!
