After watching how I clean the Filter, let me know what is your opinion: ☛ 1 - Do you like to have a DIY Filter like the one I made⁉ Or ☛ 2 - Do you prefer Canister Filter⁉

I have made a DIY filter after watching your previous videos. I couldn't use a canister filter as my aquarium cabinet is very low. It took me quite a long time to make it, but now when it's done I'm happy with it.

I am glad you have made it and you are happy with it. What is your aquarium cabinet height if you can share?

First time seeing this. Im currently using oase biomaster because of the prefilter and ease of use. But I have to admit. This diy version I think is much more practical, easy to use and CHEAPER! Plus you can change the pump easily if you're not satisfy with the flow rate. Oase flow rate is a lot lower than advertised. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for watching! Appreciate you sharing your opinion 🙏 That is why I like it too, I can choose or change any parts of it according to my needs. Add more housing for larger tank for example.

I am just made the same type of filter with 3 housing and would like to know where and what size of the sponge filter you are using? Right now I have 75 micron filter installed. It would be cheaper to run using the sponge filters.

Nice set up... You do not need to wash the bio media in aquarium water. It's not as easy to kill as you think. If I was you, I'd take the whole thing out to your backyard patio, lay it on the deck or cement and hit it all with the garden hose. The pressure will rince out the pads and separate out the muck from the bio media too. And it will do it quick. Your bio media litterly has to sit in tap water for hours before it would kill a significant amount of it. So rinse it all with the hose and get the job done quickly. Then go reassemble and you will see no lose in beneficial bacteria... Hope this helps. I just saw you doing all the rinsing by hand and had to tell u there is a better way... Cheers!

i am wondering does this work on a large aquarium (6,8 feet). will a combination of sumptank with this DIY filter (spounge) at the end before going into biofilter work
@Handyaquarist2 жыл бұрын
Definitely will work. You can use 20" or 10" big filter housing (more capacity with about 4-5 inch diameter). After sump also works. I used to have sump and DIY separately running on a large tank.

The funniest part is the sponges are a better biofilter than the media is.
@Handyaquarist3 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your opinion🙏 The sponge filter is my favorite, more economical than other filter media. However, in the long run, I like ceramic or Seachem Matrix, which lasts for a long time. There is also concern about sponges releasing microplastics into nature.

Have you ever thought about building or buying a pipe filter to keep the pipes clean so you don't have to disconnect all the pipes, just clean the pipe filter only it will save you the time and hassle of disconnecting all the pipes and cleaning them 1 by 1 by hand

Im wondering why this system is working with aquascape tanks and Huge planting
@Handyaquarist Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching 🙏 This DIY filter works the same as canister filters, which are used for planted tanks with no issue. I had it with my planted tank, and it was ok. The sump filtration could interfere with disolved CO2 (if using CO2).

Why don't you add it to your canister filter as a prefilter with the sponges and after the canister filter to add a filter housing with Seachem Matrix? :)
@Handyaquarist2 жыл бұрын
@@atanasgeorgiev128 That is also good idea. I prefer this DIY filter rather than canister filter, as I can use any brands from housing to water pump according to my need (here I used two housings, bigger tank I can use more) and budget.

what is the inner pipe diameter?
@Handyaquarist Жыл бұрын
I used ¾ inch pipe with inner diameter of 20mm or 0.8inch and two ¾ inch couplings attached at each end with an inner diameter of 1 inch or 25 mm which sits inside the filter housing. As some filter housing could be different, check if the ¾ inch coupling can fit for your housing. Thank you for watching 🙏

@@Handyaquarist the filter comes with a p5 cartridge insert I used in it yesterday that comes with I woke up to high nitrite and all dead fish…

Those cartridges are made for filtering fine sediment, which is not good for the aquarium as it needs water pressure to pass through the fine filter. But I am not sure know how it caused high nitrates.

Never use tap water as it will cause a swing in water parameters in your tank also assuming the water flow is from right housing to left all the tap water from the sponge is hitting the pumice stones i like the design but your getting similar to a fluval 306 filtration i would add a third chamber so water flows into course sponge first chamber second chamber water hits medium and polishing foams then third biomedia
@Handyaquarist Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching 🙏. Appreciate your feedback. Yes, that would be a great idea and less maintenance time to have course foam first and fine foam second before third the biomedia filteration.
