www.thecinesca...
As my new shallow aquarium was READY, I needed a stand for it ASAP.
I didn’t want to spend much on the stand, and I love DIY stuffs, so I made a minimalist concrete stand for the shallow tank.
I’m not a professional, so I hope I didn’t make any mistakes in the process, and the aquarium will stay in one piece.
Not much things were needed: 8 concrate blocks, a few beams, some boards and of course plenty of screws and patience.
Fortunatelly I have lots of tools, so it only took a couple of afternoons to finish the stand.
This is not a tutorial, I just wanted to show you how I made it.
I hope I can inspire you and give you some ideas with this unusual video. Have fun.
Ooooh.. I forgot to mention it cost around $120.

I really like your stand. Concrete and wood are always great companions. I appreciate ow you made certain to stabilize each part of the stand with bolts and screws. I can't wait to see how you scape the tank, which I LOVE. Your cat and dog are beautiful. Thank you for always creating lovely videos. You are an inspiration to all of us.

Awesome way to seriously class up and make a structurally sound stand out of the classic concrete block method we have all probably done before. Incredible job, can't wait to see the scape.

How much more effective is bolting the blocks than leaving them alone? Or even just using construction glue.

You can glue them blocks together, wood as well (liquid-nail Fuze-it).. do not need the carriage bolts. The weight is going to keep it in place as long as it's level.

I guess it’s a good thing the tank is relatively light because those concrete blocks are not stacked in the manner they are designed to be used as. If they are carrying very heavy weight (ie hundreds or thousands of pounds) they are designed to bare the load by having the holes facing upward. Aesthetically it’s pleasing while still being cheap but don’t use them this way if you are building racking or monster tanks.
@jc9561
@jc9561 3 жыл бұрын
I have heard the same, holes UP. But then again, if you can stand on the end of a cinder block and it doesn't crumble, its enough to handle the weight of the tank & water.

Hey Guys, I want to do something similar to this but I'm afraid the bricks might crumble. I got a 90p tank so that itself is about 300kg and I'm also planning on putting a granite top. the current wooden table I have doesn't have support in the middle and I can already see it bending in the middle (lucky I caught this before the full setup was done). any suggestion? BTW I love the look of the wood and concrete mix here. gives it a nice calm feeling that wood ;)
@FlatEarthPhotography
@FlatEarthPhotography 2 жыл бұрын
Stack them properly, holes up. This can hold a ton easily. You can even put two next to each other. These can hold a roof, your aquarium is not a heavy weight for it. Peace

If the tank would be, say 40cm high I'd say you're right. This seems to only be 20cm high though. I'm guessing 100x30x20cm, which is 60L. With hardscape max 100Kg. Not sure though what those bricks are rated for.

The build looks beautiful, only the cinder blocks are placed incorrectly. The holes should be facing upwards. That's how they're designed to bear weight. I think placing them correctly would not detract from the beauty of the build, either.

Looks cool. But i dont see the reason to use the bolts. Could have just glued it together. With the hazzle of drilling all those holes, a thick threaded rod (M10 or whatever) would be better as it would help support the load of the tank.

this has sparked my artistic nature Im thinking doing the same style , but maybe put some styrofoam on the inside then smooth over concrete and cut the lips off and make it look like a solid piece then maybe glue flagstone to it and build a wood frame on the inside to make cabinet doors, age the wood with a torch , beat with a chain and hammer then stain it. might become a little heavy and not really movable once installed . Got my creative juices flowing thou.
