When I was younger and my mom was alive and she was a nurse. I used to hand wash her white uniforms with the bar of ivory snow. I would use the scrubbing board. (Scrub and plunge 😆) and then let her uniform soak for an hour. And then scrub and plunge again. And t en rinse well. Then hang out her uniform and when it was dry then iron her uniform. Her uniform was super white. And she always looked awesome. My mom taught me this bc she worked so hard. And I was able to help her. I am very thankful she taught me how to hand wash the clothes. And I really appreciate u showing this tessie. Bc ivory soap is very safe for all skin types. Mom always said. If it's good for babies. Then it's good for all. Thank u tessie for sharing with us. This recipe. I can't find ivory liquid soap. But I know we can get dreft soap. Which I think is very similar to the ivory snow detergent.

This is one I will definitely be trying out. I already have a 5 gal bucket to use. Just need the rest. I'll have to look for Ivory Snow. I love the Ivory soap bars and when the bars get down to a sliver I put them in my draws and slip them under my bed sheets for a nice fresh scent each night. Of course I can use any one of the laundry soap that we get though I will try the Ivory Snow as I like the sent. This is a great way to extend the use of laundry soap. I had also thought to take the ivory bars once they are down to a sliver and shred them and dissolve them in to a liquid soap to put into soap dispensers as well. That way I can have an amazing scented hand soap cheaper than buying the liquid soap all the time. I enjoyed watching this video a Homestead Tessie original not found any where else done with perfection and love. Homestead Tessie where friends are made. Love you my sister:)

Tessie, Many years ago I used to make laundry soap with fels Naptha by the 5 gallon buckets full and I did not like the scent at all so I added essential oils. I found that it was too strong for my liking and at the time I had 4 kids in school. I notice that it seemed to dull down the colors of their bright clothes. So when we bought a new top loader, we went back to store bought detergent. We are older now with one daughter who still lives with us, one son In college and another daughter who has a very troubled marriage and she and her 3 kids move in and out of our home friom once to twice a year. So with so many to do laundry for I am going to try your dry laundry soap and if that does not work for me I will try this one. Next I will try your softern sheets. Your such and inspiration to me. Love ya.

I'm definitely going to try this "recipe". I have sensitive skin AND I like to save money while still having clean clothes of course. For the past few years, I have used baking soda [1/2- 1 cup] a splash of unscented laundry detergent & a few drops of essential oil to my wash load. It's inexpensive & works well, but it's tedious, and there is a lot of clutter with all those items being close at hand. I know I can tolerate Ivory Soap as I used to use it for showers/baths. [Made my skin too dry as I got older and had to switch]. Looking forward to trying this. One question I have is how much do you use per load? I usually have small to medium loads.
@lisamiller58236 жыл бұрын
Oh! And how long does it keep?
@HomesteadTessie6 жыл бұрын
As far as having it keep I've never had it go bad or separate if it separates a little bit just shake it and it's fine , I use half of the bottle cap that comes with your commercial size laundry soap

Thanks Tessie. I make homemade laundry soap but always have problems with it either not gelling or over gelling. Never thought to add the borax and washing soda to the boiling water... none of the recipes I have said that so it just never occurred to me. I'm going to try that next time. So do you think that waiting a day and stirring hourly also helps keep it from separating? I'd love to repackage from the 5 gallon bucket but the time I did that the soap separated....maybe I didnt let it sit long enough. Anyhow, I enjoy your videos, you are always positive and authentic, you are someone I wish I knew personally because you are inspiring. Have you ever watched Tiny House Prepper?
