You had blood, you had snow to track. You should have tracked the wounded elk until you couldn't. Only 130 yards of tracking is not ethical. You were physically fit, the weather was fine, and the track (in the snow) was easy to follow. The elk, with their thick fur and fat, can have an exit wound close up and leave no blood after a bit. We've tracked and recovered elk in blizzards in the dark because we knew we had hit them. Just a lesson learned for you - next time don't be so quick to cast off a wounded animal.

I’m not saying it would have been a bad idea to continue searching but after losing blood it was nearly impossible to track him because there were so many other elk tracks criss-crossing through the thick pines. It was also getting dark and we had an elk to butcher with approx 12 miles back to camp in 0 degree weather. I get your point but in the moment all things considered I think we made the right choice especially since we were pretty sure it was a nonlethal hit…

@@untamedadrenaline Sounds good. In the video it came across like there wasn't much effort or thought to continue tracking. Your explanation here sounds much better. Congrats again on the elk.

I love these hunting videos you guys don’t find any other hunters in there. Whenever I go I find an army of orange waiting for me even if I’m miles away from roads

The hunting is great, but the camaraderie is the best part of a hunting camp. Great video. Thanks for taking us along,

Really 100 yards after elk bedded, and you gave up? That's not ethical at all. Poor example.

I don't know how cold it is there but I have the cabela's big horn tent with a big stove the heat can get way too hot even in -40 Celsius in Canada. But I bought a -40 sleeping bag if the stove goes out you won't even get cold. It's a good investment

Nice shot at 380 yards, that's a bit out of my range, do you have any regrets on not spending more time tracking the wounded bull ? sure is a lot of Aspen there in Colorado.
@untamedadrenaline2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. And no we don’t for a few reasons. We did spend more time looking than it seems in the video and all the signs we saw in the snow from tracking him after last blood pointed toward an animal that was definitely not fatally wounded. Also the fact that the wrong reticle was used which would’ve caused the point of impact to be approx. 10-12 inches below the point of aim. We feel like we have sufficient reason to believe he survived.

You have a blood trail, so pressure him till he gives you another opportunity to squeeze a round off.

what caliber rifle are you using? I have been dreaming on doing an elk hunt for a long time and all the research i have been doing the caliber is all over the place.

One was a .300 short mag and one was a 7mm mag. Both are great options.

Your stove is waaay undersized for that tent. A good stove should only need to be stoked maybe twice per night and remain relatively comfortable till morning.

with pretty good lood where your elk bedded down you should have kept tracking him, you never tracked him far enough or long enough , your bull is dead somewhere , not good hunting etheics

If you're shooting a rifle you're not familiar with, that's a fail on your part.

Exactly, should not have taken the shot if you didn't know if you could make it with that particular rifle.

Sleep in the trucks? WTH?! Get rid of that garbage Cabela's tent and get a canvas tent. My recommendation is a Kodiak Canvas tent kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYiYgaqFjdCblc0si=Z2VIa2dccsRVWnLM and get a bigger wood stove or you can use a propane heater with no problems in a canvas tent. Kodiak now has a 12x16 tent with optional 2 8x8 extension rooms.
