Hi! Since "do-it-yourself" DNA extractions like this essentially don't produce pure DNA isolate due to a variety of reasons like contamination, improper execution of procedures, etc., experiments like this are just being done so that students can get a glimpse of the basic principles of the procedures in extracting DNA. In the actual lab, on the other hand, genomic DNA extraction aims to separate this genetic material from the rest of the cell. Once purified through proper procedures, scientists use this to study individual genes, sequence the entire genome, modify sections of DNA, and more. Hope this helps 😊
