MISTAKE AT 5:15 ! I meant to say, alcohols are comparatively much less polar than water with lower dielectric constant. So, the presence of an alcohol layer in the water, promotes the bonding of positive sodium and negative phosphate backbone, thus making the DNA more Hydrophobic and promotes its precipitation from the aqueous environment. Do have a look at these two links 👇 for more indepth understanding: www.quora.com/Why-does-DNA-precipitate-in-ethanol en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanol_precipitation

Im looking to make poison ivy to not make people itch. How would I go about extracting the gene that causes it to produce the oil that causes allergic reactions? What is the gene that causes it? I tried growing it from cuttings to breed it with other plants but ended up with a face full of it.

Can you extract DNA from a 20 year old leaf that was left in between 2 hockey cards in a binder for 20 years. Is there any chance the DNA could be used to reproduce the original plant? If anyone out there can do this that would be great.

try canned juice and see if it works. Experiment! Why not! Although i have a strong feeling that the required enzyme in the juice would have been destroyed during the canning process.
