DIY Bath Bomb/How-To Make Bath Bombs
This step-by-step tutorial will show you how to make a basic bath bomb. This is my favorite recipe to use if you are just starting out in your bath bomb making adventure. Hope this helps! Enjoy! xo
Check out my Etsy shop to purchase handmade soap and bath bombs! - www.untidyartist.etsy.com
Bath Bomb Recipe
1 ½ C. Baking Soda
¾ C. Citric Acid
¾ C. Cornstarch
1 ½ T. Cream of Tartar
1 Tbs. Cocoa Butter
1 Tbs. Coconut Oil
1 ½ Tbs Castor Oil
½ Tbs. Rubbing Alcohol (91% or more works best!)
½ Tbs Distilled Water
1 Tbs. Fragrance Oil (skin-safe)
Here are some of my favorite places to purchase bath bomb supplies and ingredients and a whole bunch of other helpful info and tips for you!*
Bath Bomb Mold - Amazon - bit.ly/2APCLVz
Link for smaller mold, approximately 2.1 inches in diameter.
Amazon - goo.gl/imW9hP
Plastic Christmas Ball Ornament - Amazon - goo.gl/ESygfT
Citric Acid -
Check your local grocery store next to the canning supplies.
Health food stores also carry citric acid.
Amazon - goo.gl/ntxJTJ
For Bulk Citric Acid - Wholesale Supplies Plus - goo.gl/EqjXNy
Also, saveoncitric.com - goo.gl/DhjuDa
Bath Bomb Colorants -
Celestial Colors - goo.gl/KZDmMC
Other things you can use to color your bath bombs -
Lake dyes - these are skin-safe and come in a powdered form. Mix with rubbing alcohol when mixing your liquid ingredients. A little goes a long way!
Wholesale Supplies Plus - goo.gl/WHmrzT
Mica - -Not all mica colors are safe for bath bomb use, be sure to check the specific mica you are using, it will be listed in the color information from the supplier.
Mad Oils Micas - bit.ly/2LLZXWV
Nurture Soap Micas - nurturesoap.com/collections/m...
Food Coloring - Mix with liquid ingredients. Gel food coloring also works well. And no, these won’t dye your skin as long as you don’t go crazy and add the entire container :) - Amazon -
goo.gl/paXHaE
goo.gl/gauv7G
Fragrance Oils - My favorite companies -
Nurture Soap Supplies - nurturesoap.com/?aff=333
Brambleberry - www.brambleberry.com/
Arizona Mad Oils - arizona-mad-oils.com/
Wholesale Supplies Plus - www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/...
Cream of Tartar - can be purchased at your local grocery store, however, I find it is cheaper to purchase it through a soap supply store.
I purchase mine from Penzeys Spices - goo.gl/o1rZTQ
Thank you for watching! Happy crafting! xo, Emilie

This is definitely one of the best bath bomb tutorials I've found. I've been thinking about using a homemade bath bomb to propose to my girlfriend, and most of the recipes I've found just didn't seem right. I love that this one has oils and uses something other than food coloring.

I am teaching my Grandkids to make homemade Christmas gifts this year. Because they are girls (not me) this hits the spot. I guess I could make some for my guy friends(weird sorta) and maybe scent them with WD-40,fish bait, oil or gunpowder LOL. Actually most guys won't admit it but we all have a feminine side. Me I prefer lavender, rosemary and ginger (shhhhh and a nice candle). I am a former Executive Chef and like the creativity. Nice video!!

This is a great dIY video for beginners like me. You offer such great tips and techniques. I wish I had watched this before I started making bath bombs. I learned by trial and error that you lightly over-stuff the molds and then press them together hard so that the mixture passes through itself and sticks together. Kind of like how you make a snow ball. I've watched more videos and looked at more recipes than I can count. Spent a ton of money too, so it's disappointing when they crack or don't hold together. My house is very dry, which is good, but I have to always spray A LOT of rubbing alcohol or witch hazel to get them to hold together. Then I over-spritz and they crack. I think what I need is a better base-recipe to begin with. One that balances the dry to liquid/oil ratio better. I just don't think I should be spritzing that much. Can't wait to try your recipe!

My bath bombs are in a 6 oz ball mold, similar to the one you used here, but when I remove them from the mold and set them to dry, most of them sort of "settle" leaving the bottom of the bath bomb flat in stead of round as they should be. Will using the towel and bubble wrap resolve this or should I do something else? Thank you :)

My last two batches of bombs expanded while they sat. I'm not entirely certain how I'm adding too much liquid, as I really am just trying to moisten it until it holds together without a large chunk crumbling into my hands. I live in Nevada, so I doubt it's moisture from humidity. Any tips for dumb dumbs like me on making sure the consistency will press but not expand? How long do you allow them to dry before wrapping? And tips on long term storage? Sorry, thanks.
