Ahhh I hope you love this makeover! I loved the original piece however the condition and overall style of the piece just didn't match the new aesthetic for my parents home! However the transformed version is the perfect base for a future bathroom makeover!

You did the right thing with the wood speckling! Just a tip for the future: also add it to the sides a bit to make it cleaner looking and you should be able to use a spatula/putty knife/whatever you call it in English to sort of pre-form the lines. If it feels to wet, let it sit for a little bit until it starts to firm up a bit. It'll make the sanding process much easier. Two painting tips: 1. don't be afraid to really go into the caps and details with the paint and the brush. It'll help sort of fill them and in the end it'll look smoother and newer in the end. 2. I can't really see whether you're doing it or not, since you're not showing it, but always make sure you'll finish painting in the same direction. It's a bit harder to explain in writing, but don't leave weirdly directed strokes-they'll show up after drying. Trust me, I used to work as a restorator and as much as I tried in the beginning, when I had just started on that career path, to fix it, the weird strokes still stayed and I didn't know any better. But, if you are doing it-good job! Maybe there's someone else out there who needs to hear that tip. A lot of people don't know it, surprisingly...

Would adding a bit of floetrol to it help even out the brushstrokes?
@ma-xc1jq
@ma-xc1jq 4 жыл бұрын
Another tip I use to prevent brush stokes is to go down a brush size and use the paint sparingly. It’s not a time saving tip. A big brush and a lot of wet paint getting dragged around is going to leave strokes no matter what you put on top of it.

When you are brushing with your electric toothbrush DO NOT SCRUB BACK AND FORTH! The back and forth motion will remove enamel off your teeth. Just place the brush on each tooth surface individually without rubbing. You are young and won’t see the damage until you are older. Love the vanity, you lucky dog for finding it on the side of the road. You did a great job changing and improving it! Love it.

Love this! For the future, make a silicone mold of the good part of the wood. Then add wood putty to the mold, let dry, then use Gorilla wood glue to the area of the missing molding! Also, you need to buy a $20 dolly or make one in case you find another great piece. Then you can roll it home!

Lets try to be reasonable here for a second 😂🙈 It's not crazy at all to want to get rid of this item. If you've worked hard all your life and want to treat yourself with a modern bathroom, what is "crazy" about giving this it item away to somebody who actually needs and treasures it? It's obvious that it has been in good use over many many years, so they probably wanted a new start 😊

M 560 here in japan as well. if its a bigger piece you pay a lot to have them removed from the garbage storage so usually people who dont want to pay would wait when no one is looking and then find a space to dump them (usually near the garbage storage hoping it will get taken away)

The color is great. I don’t think the knobs really fit with the piece tho. And i wish you had kept some of the original color in the detailing

Just curious if there’s a reason why you didn’t sand the whole dresser

If you look close at the area he had to put wood filler on, it’s not actually wood but made from MDF (technically wood but can’t be refinished like “wood”). Stripping and/or sanding MDF would ruin it. I found that out when I tried to refinish a dresser that I thought was wood several years ago. Turned out only drawer fronts were actual wood. 😡😡

Just a tip on the toothbrush. You don’t need to use it like a non-electric toothbrush; the toothbrush does the work for you so all you need to do is guide it around your teeth inside and outside and the biting surfaces - save the vigorous brushing for your DIY sanding, LOL. 😁

I feel like the personality of the original vanity is gone now. I can understand painting the wood a colour to hid the scratches etc but painting the gold embellishments also green just made it a little too lack lustre for me.
