It’s a butler’s pantry. Some are off the kitchen, some are off the dining room. The paneling wasn’t original anyway so he might as well have painted it. The original cabinetry is gone as well. Now, it is bright and airy. It brightens up the dining room as well. A marked improvement. 👍🏾

@@suchfrecks3110: The couple from “The Kinwoven Home” channel have one in their 1930s California home with its original unpainted cabinetry. It’s perfect for a maid or butler to prepare drinks or hors d’oeuvre trays and remain within earshot of the master or mistress of the house. It’s interesting how even modest homes often had butler’s pantries and maid’s quarters back then. I grew up in L.A. and have even seen duplex apartments with maid’s quarters. I love early 20th century architecture. It pains me when people gut these properties and make them open concept.

I'm old enough to remember being a kid in the 1970s when that wooden paneling was considered modern and sophisticated. Everybody had it, especially in "rumpus rooms" and basement rooms where you'd hang out on shag carpeting and such. It did not age well, but painted, it tends to look really nice! Great work on the room.

I personally would turn this room to a „reading room“. With all my books and a comfortable place to sit and read. 😍 But still, I think this may be one of your best projects. I love that you painted the walls but kept the floor in that original colour. And the carpet is just gorgeous 🎊👏🏻

I 100% bet it was a entertainment room like with built-in areas for the square TV and speaking on the face looking side. And possibly the back area where more speakers would have been built in and the little doors probably would have hid cables or some kind of control panel that may have needed to be accessed every once in while or maybe an area for a projector one of those old projector TV's. Honestly I would have asked the landlord about removing those built in walls and adding like 6 feet to the room, because I do not think they are part of the original design and probably wouldn't be that bad to remove.

That's what I came here to comment. I think the bench looks nice, but I don't think anyone would want to sit there for too long... I would have put a cosy armchair in and lots of books and more plants. It's nice to sit and read next to a big window and the plants love it too. Now I feel the room looks nice, but it's still kinda useless because you don't spent much time there

That turned out so good! A tip for painting paneling like that is to use a thicker roller nap, like a lambskin nap and you won't have to use the brush to paint all of the grooves. It goes a lot faster.

You made a beautiful, usable room out of the weirdest most claustrophobic space ever. I could happily read a book in there or have a drink with a friend. I love the wood accents you wisely chose not to paint. The bench too- you could sell those! These little pops of wood are such a nice contrast to the clean white walls and ceiling. Love what you did with the "yoga room!" The landlord is smart enough to realize you painting this room "improves the value" of his property!! You can really improve the wood window frame using a beeswax enhancer. It will "remoisturize" the wood and make it look lovely again!!

You're a landlord's dream come true. The value of the house is going to go way up when you move out. They won't have any issues renting it out again too. It's amazing what a coat of white paint can do to that 80's wood panel. We had a sun porch that was covered in panel. We did the same thing to it. it looked so much nicer with a little paint!

I really believe that whoever rents this place one day will be so lucky to move in such an improved home. I loved the white, it really opens up the space to the eye. The mirrors on one side look more fitting in the white space. I also loved the wood decor which still kind of goes back to the wood of the original room so it retains that memory...I wanted to ask if Marie assisted and what her reaction was to seeing it. I love how it came out!!! I do wish that the storage/built-ins could be knocked out though. I feel like you could gain like 2 extra feet without them. And then my dream idea would be to have one bookcase or rows of shelves fill up the space on the left wall with a smallish but comfy reading chair in front of it and a tiny desk with stool and shelves with plants and momentos on the right side. But that's just me... I really like the idea of a light filled study/reading nook with a door to shut out distractions.

Yeah, they've basically become a super cheap HomeGoods / TJ Maxx / Marshall's. They used to sell absolute junk but have stepped it up. And our local stores sell actual furniture. Like, legit name brand stuff and even have a RentACenter-like program where you don't have to have a stack of cash to get a new bed or couch.

I was just there yesterday! I was on the hunt for white curtains that weren't sheer or blackouts and they were the only store I've found had them and Broyhill too! They have really good candles and fake plants too and a good selection of acrylic organizers cheap. Ours is open bc they sell food and cleaning supplies so I appreciate that!

Hey! My guess would be that that was originally an open balcony. The door is an exterior grade door with sidelights and the paneling is clearly a later cheap/quick fix rather than drywall. Loved this flip! Using it as a bar room is a great solution!

D U D E~ you took that space and improved it by a zillion percent, I love everything. I am definitely going to have to check out (big lots), you got some great stuff and not bad $$ at all. You just brought that landlords property value up with simply paint, I cant imagine him being anything but awe struck and excited. I know what paint can do to a room but its so huge when you get to see the brightness with the Chantilly Lace. TWO THUMBS UP, 5 OUT OF 5 STARS!!!!

It’s amazing what some paint can do! I’m glad you kept the window sill unpainted, such a great accent to the other wood in the room. The bench turned out fantastic and looked relatively simple to create. Wonderful transformation :)

Absolutely love this! 🖤 I would just put big floor pillow into that reading nook. So you would be able to sit there. And it would look super cozy as well 🙌🏻
