I have never had the opportunity to design or makeover a dining room until now! This is my first time tackling a more "formal" space if you will. I really wanted to add my own person touch with a moody accent wall, some DIY and all around an inviting vibe. Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Love the colors ! I think natural wood shelves would've popped in the nook and added a little contrast, as well as pulled in the wood of the table... I love your quirky thinking and all of your home made items... looking forward to the rest of the apartment...so happy for you !!🙃🤪

​@@victoriaheinrich718 I don't like black chairs next to the navy wall - I know so many home decorators/ designers use navy as a neutral, but to me (as a graphic designer) it clashes with black, taking away some of the strength of both colors.

Love this room! I would have stained the shelves the same color as the dinning room table I love a wood look against a dark blue wall!! I still love it

When looking for a dining room table I often type in 'dinning' because so many spell it that way. Fun time with Ethan Allen as well. I agree the shelves should have been natural wood. Those brackets aren't large enough for a shelf that size. It will bow with any weight. Like the fact that he used some old pieces as well. I have a MCM piece which would fill in under those shelves beautifully.

I feel like the only thing that would make that shelving area a little better is some lights. I'm imagining either a light-up globe or some LED strips underneath the shelves with some trim on the front to hide it. And gold accents. That navy wall is screaming for some decadent gold accents.

Absolutely. I think he’s not a cook or dinner party person yet. That said, I’ve heard it’s a nightmare to have people over in LA. Traffic and distance are big turnoffs for people.

2:59 See that cool square of light in the upper left corner that is coming from sunlight shining through the french doors? The way it has those neat shadows and "underwater" look to it? That is the original (probably 1920's) glass in the door making those cool patterns. I just love old window glass and the shadows they cast. You can tell some of the glass squares have been replaced at some point with newer glass and those squares don't make the cool shadows. Your new apt has so much character. I love this period of architecture, between the 2 world wars.

I think you did a lovely job on this room. I was sooo hoping you would have left the shelves in white or glass or a midtown wood. Then large fold accents- to bring importance to the chandelier. I'm desperate to see some traditional, glam- but not over the top. I know that you will eventually switch up the styling over time- I love your style and have been watching you a long time. I absolutely love the makeover, this colour is gorgeous! The only thing I would change is taking that little stool away and putting the plant on the floor directly just so everything is not on the same height, to break it up a little. Love the mirror though, it goes so well with the navy 😊

Drew! You could get the ivar cabinet from ikea and diy it! That might fit underneath your last shelf there. Also black and decker matrix tools!!!! Great for apt living and rechargeable battery! Many attachments and have had it for over a year. I use it for everything. 🥰🥰

I love white painted walls. You can do so much with them as far as accents go. I like the style of your dining room and I'm so glad you kept the dining room light as it's very vintage looking. I do think the rug you ordered will perfect this space, so I can't wait to see it in the dining room.

As a former paint cont4actor I can affirm Benjamin Moore is a fantastic paint. I always preferred using their linesrather than Sherwin Williams, Valspar, or Dulux, lines traditionally used by many contractors, some clients had a preference, if they didn't want BM we would use what they wanted but if they didn't care I would always go to BM.

This room is gorgeous ❤️. What I love is how we all get inspiration and yet can add our own twist. My built in space, I added glass shelves (glass store, not too pricey). I’d use Glass shelves for Drew’s space and make it my bar area. Beautiful Glass decanter, decadent glassware, brown liqueurs. Cognac, Hennessy...

Benjamin Moore and/or Sherwin Williams have always been my goto brands for super high quality paint - usually one primer coat and one top coat, sometimes 2 if you really want perfection.

Drew!!! Amazing. Absolutely love it and the colour is perfect. It didn't look bad before but when you did the before and after at the end I was blown away by the difference. Drew, this room is so sophisticated. Good call on using the map print. I like your print, but definitely too bold for that space. Love your use of greenery in a space. Softens the lines perfectly. So happy you opted to keep the vintage chandelier. I’ve never owned a crystal chandelier, but was once in a jewelry store when the staff was cleaning them. Passing this along for future reference. Put a drop cloth on the floor under the chandelier before you set your ladder up. Squirt the entire fixture with glass cleaner until it drips. That’s it! Let it drip on the floor cloth. It shines itself. No wiping required.

I love the dark blue color! I just wish you would have kept the trim white and matched the shelf’s in the nook white just for more interest Edit: then if it wasn’t a vibe you it could have been painted blue

AKIIVA HIGGINS I think he gets so much natural light, with the chandelier drawing the eye up, and the step ceiling he could get away with it with out making the room feel shorter. Just an opinion.

Sort of agree here. I'm a fan of unpainted (stained is good) wood grain trim. And flat trim at that, none of that gaudy molding junk.
