First one showed missing parts. Second one was complete. It's a working bench grinder kzbin.infoUgkxxC8HPnl24fu0XhMU_nbmWNEUoK1RMHXk . One thing I like alot is that it's surprisingly quiet. I don't feel like I'm sacrificing any rpms or power for the quietness either. All in all it's a very nice machine. No vibration whatsoever.

I think a little crown on the wood pulley might help keep the belt centered. All the old flat-belt equipment had a little curve to the pulleys.

I did actually try that on another wheel but still wouldn't quite track properly. I ended up finding the issue: the aluminium T bar (with the tracking wheel and spring) would slightly flex when loaded or adjusted. I have since replaced it with square 25x25mm steel tube and it tracks perfectly.

Why didn't you use a longboard wheel for the drive wheel too, just like the idler and tracking wheels?
@dtmine91334 жыл бұрын
Firstly the size. Motor isn't variable so I have 3 diff sized wheels for different speeds. Secondly the inside diameter is wrong, and if I were to drill it out there wouldn't be alot left for the nut to bolt up against, and it would be too brittle done that way.
@crossgrainwoodproductsltd92304 жыл бұрын
Very nice and just what I need! Do you have any tips when laying the holes out on the piece of steel? I've had a piece of 3/16 steel laying in the shop for a "someday" project and this is the perfect project! Thanks for sharing!!
@dtmine91334 жыл бұрын
I just laid out the belt and 3 wheels so that it had a reasonable front flat section and was inline at the bottom wheel to drive wheel, that section doesn't need to be long. Then when doing the top tensioner the wheel needs to be out far enough to align with the front bottom wheel. Hope that makes sense.
Hi what were the cost of the wheels and are they holding out ok ?

They're to small internally and the plastic doesn't look like it would take much drilling/maching. I would have to remove the bearing and make a sleeve/bush. I will look into it though thank you, maybe with a harder single piece wheel it would be easy to do.

Not a good idea to grind aluminium on a grinding wheel. Vary dangerous!!!
@crossgrainwoodproductsltd92304 жыл бұрын
May I ask why aluminum is worse than steel. I've always used the bench grinder for big pieces of steel, aluminum, and brass. I do wear google and a face shield. I know overkill with the two but it is the way my father taught me along with a leather apron and gloves. He was a welder, steam-pipe fitter for 40 years. He also taught me how to use the angle grinder, and the welding machine set he gave me. But I'm serious when I ask why. I always say Its never to late to learn something new. Thanks. Cheers.
@65burnie4 жыл бұрын
I was always taught not to grind aluminum on a wheel grinder. The soft aluminum embeds into the wheel. If you come along and grind steel with that stuck in the grains of the wheel and heat it up the aluminum can expand and fracture the wheel causing it to explode while its on.
@crossgrainwoodproductsltd92304 жыл бұрын
@@65burnie YIKES!! I'm definitely going to change what I do on the grinder. Thanks for the info and for replying. ;>)
@klave85113 жыл бұрын
CrossGrain Wood Products,LTD : The aluminum clogs the wheel, just like when you file it. The wheel needs to be dressed afterwards to get the surface clean and sharp again. A wheel designed to grind aluminum is different, wears faster as the grains fall out and keep presenting new sharp grains underneath. It doesn’t clog with pieces of the soft aluminum.
