You installed the new oil filter without removing the old o-ring seal that was stuck in the oil inlet stud. This is a mistake, and that’s why the spring was so tight because you have two seals on top of each other. If you use the OEM filter that does not have an integrated rubber seal, then of cause you keep the o-ring in place, acting as a reusable seal for the filter.
@KrakensGarageandAdventures
@KrakensGarageandAdventures 9 ай бұрын
You are correct. Truth be said, it worked both ways. When I shot this video, there was no service manual available. So everything was a guess based on my experience. Again,both ways will work.
@RS-nl2lp

Yes It probably won’t hurt anything. And probably it’ll still seal. Just remove it next time. BTW I investigated T1/T2 timing marks. T2 is TDC, use this for valve clearance adjustment. T1 is in fact BDC. Don’t use this mark for anything.

So I assume if using K&N you can take the rubber seal off the filter and just use the oring that is in the machine?

No, o-rings inside the engine oil has a limited lifespan. Also the hi-flo and K&N filters are designed to seal with the pre installed seal, so don’t do that. Remove the o-ring if using hi-flo or K&N.

Thank you for the fantastic job you are doing there. I need to ask because i am a new TNT 125 (Europe -Greece) I did 10km and return home to change the oil and filter with MOTUL oil and k&N 112 filter. I left the engine to dry completely and install 1000 ml of the new oil (from the oil bottle indicator). Now the oil it at the high level with the engine stop and i can barely see oil when the engine is running. I am asking because when you change oil and filter after 10km ride the manual point that you should put 1100ml back in. I just put 1000 and it's full and i did a test ride also. Now when the ENGINE IS RUNNING the side glass level is in the middle and when stoped is full. Is this normal ???
@KrakensGarageandAdventures
@KrakensGarageandAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
It depends if you thoroughly warmed up the bike before the oil change. The extra 100 ml is for the oil cooler. If you didn't change the oil while is hot the valves on the oil cooler won't open and flush out the old oil.

@KrakensGarageandAdventures Thank you for getting back to me. So I took it apart and figured it out. It was the (starter clutch) the springs that hold the bearings, I think that's what you call it. Broke, so that was what was making the grinding noise. It's hard for me to find legit parts to replace it, so I just bought so longer and tougher springs from like Wal-Mart. JD depending on the temp you live in should dictate which viscosity. In Virginia early spring i chose a bit thicker oil 15w50 for the cool spring time. Hey I really like your videos and have a green benelli as well. I have had only one issue from when I got my bike and that is my oil cooler keeps leaking from the bolt side by the header. I replaced it the sealant washers with ones from auto zone they leaked and got ones from benelli and they leaked as well. I believe I'm tightening too much and wanted to know if there is a torque setting for that bolt?? Or if you have some advice that can help me. Sorry for the long comment trying to ask a simple question.
@KrakensGarageandAdventures

Is your bike still under warranty? If so, take it to the dealer asap. If not and you have replaced the sealant washers, my only other guess would be the bolt may need replaced. As for the torque settings for that bolt, you can download the service manual here and it should have the torque settings for your entire bike. www.dropbox.com/s/j53yc6dukca60g5/Benelli%20TNT%20135cc%20Official%20Full%20Service%20Manual%20%282021%29%20.pdf?dl=0

@@KrakensGarageandAdventures sooo update on that situation is it's not under warranty any longer but I ended up finding out that there was a small leak from the oil cooler itself somewhere above the bolt side by the exhaust which made it seem like the washers were being overtightened so I got a new oil cooler from the factory and swapped them out. Now she's solid and leak free... Thank you still for being so informative on everything you do

@@KrakensGarageandAdventures understood. In general you're doing a very good job :-) my experience as a professional mechanic tells me that if the new filter comes with a built-in seal then the o-ring becomes redundant but it most likely isn't going to hurt anything. As far as setting the valves you really don't need to pay attention to the timing marks. As long as the lobe of the cam is pointing away from the rocker you're good to go (at least that's how I was taught and how I've done it on hundreds of vehicles over the 20 years I've been turning wrenches). There's a pretty decent part of the rotation of the cam where there is zero lift so it's effective to just do that by eye. Really enjoying the videos keep them up!

You failed to mention removing the rubber grommet from the K&N filter or removing the o-ring from the tube the filter slides on, as you don't want to use both, as you did. The OEM filter doesn't have a rubber grommet, because the o-ring remains on the shaft.

@@KrakensGarageandAdventures Maybe I'm wrong, but I think we should not force the filter to seat. The spring seats the filter to OEM o-ring and allows the filter to unseat and bypass in the event of a clogged filter. I wish we had more options for a better fitted filter as the OEM filter looks really cheaply made. Someone on another vid took the rubber sealing flange on the oil filter and turned it over. I guess it is camfered on the inside and allows for a better fit.

@@KrakensGarageandAdventures I have not done a filter change on my TNTs, so I can only go by what I gather online. Does the OEM filter have a bypass valve on the top of the filter? If so, any means of sealing base is acceptable as the bypass will occur at the valve. Off subject, would you know where one could get the TNT 135 maintenance manual?

I read online that the rubber ring on the K&N filter should be removed since there is already one seated on the bikes side of where the filter goes. Can you verify if this is true?

I've been asked that many times. I was told by steady Garage to leave it on and it was a rascal to get on. Next oil change I would leave it off. Either way. I'm of thr opinion that both ways word, one is just annoying to install. I hope this answers your question. Eric

@@KrakensGarageandAdventures yeah it doesn't seem that big of a deal considering what is passing through the oil filter is going to go through the same route regardless. Thanks! I just hit 600 miles on my benelli. Time to finally pass the 6k rpm! Appreciate your videos, Kraken!

Rob, in my case yes I used the rubber o-ring and it took some muscle to get it on. Many replied on this video that you don't need the o-ring. So I think you're fine to not use it. I hope my reply helps. Eric

If your fork is leaking you have remove the fork and tear them dow to replace the seals. Fill up with the proper fork oil. I do not recommend trying this task if you've never done it before.

@@KrakensGarageandAdventures so if there was little scratches on the lower Fork tube would that make it leak a little bit of oil every time it was compressed because it's not like dripping oil only like when I go for a ride I can feel a little bit of oil on the lower fort

Either oil will do just fine. I put in a little thicker oil to quiet down the chatter of the noisy valves. If you're in 100* heat go with the 10w50. Good luck! Eric

@KrakensGarageandAdventures
@KrakensGarageandAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
