Such a positive reply and I agree how open we need to be if we are maker/sellers. In what state is McIntosh located please? Here in NC the festival craze just hasnt caught on yet. We have maybe 1 vendor festival a year here in Forsyth Co. NC but I cant set up a booth, not physically able, but I enjoy selling on facebk and a local consignment store (Out of the box consignment clemmons NC). My label is Lavoie Boho. A great effect is sprinkling instant coffee crystals onto the sopping wet tea stained cloth. It makes a fabulous grungy look. You can spritz it with hot water to get it to spread more too. Then wash and dry of course. If you invest a couple of dollars into a quilting foot for your machine it will be a game changer for your appliques. You can free motion your appliques and patches on, no turning the fabric round and round.❤

This is an awesome tip. I have an old machine and I have a quilting foot but it's missing a crucial little screw. I'm gonna dig it out and see if I can use it. Why wouldn't you just use a free motion foot? I have one of those.

Some of the more basic machines don't do free motion, but you can try it by dropping your feed dogs.

@@Cavaughan57 Most machines have the ability to switch out the foot. A free motion foot enables any machine to become free motion. Of course you need to drop the feed dogs down as you've said. The foot has a little spring that makes it move up and down , holding the fabric down as the needle pierces the fabric. Wonderful little gadget.💕

You can attach appliqués on fabric with washable Elmers school glue! Put dots of glue on the appliqués, place on fabric and press with a hot iron. No more pin pricks! You may have to dilute the glue with a little bit of water. Love these overalls!!!

There's also fabri-tac. But it's so expensive. There's a vendor on Etsy that sells a silicone based glue, which is what fabri-tac is, way cheaper. I've been using it for darned near everything and I love it. I also sew things I glue like fabric appliques. I don't trust just glue, any glue. That's just me.

OMG! Those are adorable!....When you got to the bleach part I started freaking out!....We've all had the trauma of spilling bleach on a beloved article of clothing, but you did it intentionally....and I had never seen tea dying before.....maybe the next time.....let the tea steep overnight....I'm sure you would get way more tannins out of it. They are just gorgeous! I even liked it when they were the staight yellow. You did an awesome job!

I love love love these. I think if you use more fabric medium and wait for longer before you wash them the painted flowers will hold up better, but I like the distressing effect this way. These look so awesome on you!

Hi Tracy, I recently picked up a cool trick from another KZbin upcycler...use a craft fabric glue stick to secure your patches while sewing them down, rather than pinning them! It is so much quicker and easier, and there is no glue residue (as I feared) after washing them once!! The glue makes the patches lay nice and flat while sewing, so there is less chance of wrinkles or boo-boos! You can pick the patch up and move it easily if you need to. I wish I had tried this years ago! Keep up the good work!

Instead of regular fusible webbing, I have been using Wonder Under. It attaches to the fabric with a paper backer. Once you trim the applique exactly how you want it, you can remove the paper backer, and iron the applique onto your project. Then no pins are required to attach and sew on the appliques. It works so well.

From London UK, they say you can paint with any acrylic paint or fabric paint for softening you have to mix paints with softener then it's perfect even for t-shirts and doesn't get hard on the surface, but you have to figure out proportions by yourself depending on the fabric and the paint

I liked them before the bleaching...but all the techniques you showed are so very kool. I actually kept seeing overalls on Pinterest that had flowers painted all over, and that is my summer project...the appliqués were a great idea but I would hand sew them on so not to cut up the overalls. This is so funny to me about myself ! Before I ever watched this video I started working on an old pair of my husbands overalls to use for myself . They are the regular blue . But with quite a few holes in them , so I’ve been hand sewing patches of cute materials over the holes then quilting across the patches and cross stitch embroidering around the edges of the patches or sewing on little buttons all around the patches ! Yours are so so cute!love them .
