These wings are perfect for any fairy costume you can thing of! Use these for masquerade balls, Renaissance fairs, or Halloween! They were SO MUCH FUN to create, and I made sure to film almost all of it, so you can make your own costume fairy wings, too!
These wings are made with galvanized wire I bought at Lowes, and then covered in rainbow cellophane paper, that I got at craft stores!
I also used foil tape, spray paint, and spray adhesive.
Once they were wrapped in the cellophane, I ironed them to tighten and shrink wrap the paper, and then melted the edges with a flame, to seal the edges and prevent fraying.
Table of contents:
Drawing the wings - 0:19
Building the vein frames - 2:14
Adding the cellophane - 12:25
Ironing and cutting out - 14:36
Melting the edges - 16:58
Finishing the base - 19:36

I’ve been making wings for close to ten years using this technique. Bravo!! One easy way to keep the cellophane flat is to roll your bottom sheet out, leaving the cellophane attached to the role… Spray that first layer down with the sprayed he sieve and then reverse roll the cellophane back over the top of that and it’ll push all of the bubbles out because you’re still using the cardboard tube. Also, as far as burning the edges… I use a miniature blowtorch which is great because it provides an even concentrated temperature, which works great for burning Various sizes of holes with maximum control in a swift manner. Love the way you used bubble bubble wrap around the base, I’m going to have to give that a try myself!

Aubrey, I can't tell you how perfect the timing is for this video. I am costuming the Little Mermaid for a local high school and have been stressing about how to make sea creatures. I knew that I would use wire, but had no real concept of how to put them together. This technique is perfect! I always love your tutorials and your art. Thank you for sharing your talent, self and your adorable daughter with us. Much joy to you during the upcoming holidays.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! We are an OSDD system (basically DID with a couple of differences) and there's a fairy alter who is super uncomfortable without wings. But she wants something big and 'correct' compared to the cheap ones we can buy so this tutorial is going to be great for us so we can make her wings to wear so she feels a little less uncomfortable!
@macyunderwood4868

Hey, if you don't mind me asking (please don't feel pressured to answer) does the fairy alter have something like phantom limb syndrome?
@nanonova5909
@nanonova5909 4 жыл бұрын
@@macyunderwood4868 Yeah that's a good way of describing it. Like she can feel a weight there and feel like she can move the "wings". It's hard to describe other than it makes her feel off when she doesn't have something. Like if you randomly lost a limb you'd still feel it there.

@@nanonova5909 thank you so much for responding! I just wondered because I have a bit of a special interest in researching mental stuff that's connects to the physical, it fascinates me.

I completely get it. We haven’t been diagnosed yet but We have proof to have some form of DID through my girlfriend, and my sister. It was shocking to find out I wasn’t alone in this body, and it explained why I would pass out for days, but anyway, some of the male alters feel uncomfortable being in a female body. And I myself have felt ‘phantom limps’ before. Because inside I have animal ears. But not having them it’s strange.

Hi Aubrey, thank you so much for sharing this awesome video. After looking for thousands of tutorials, I got a lot of boring wings until I hit yours. I followed each of the steps, and I was able to build my first-ever Fairy Wings for my wife's cosplay. I used clear contact paper on the bottom instead of the adhesive over the cellophane and then cellophane on top, though. Cheers. 🥰🥰

This was a beautiful tutorial! I use to work for bath and body works when they used cellophane and shrink wrap for the gift wrapping process. The best way to get it close without using a flame is using a hair dryer on high for less than a minute but you have to move it around spots as your doing it. But it does work for those who don’t feel comfortable using the candle or the iron.

I know this is an old video, but I hope you can see this comment. I really want to try to make these wings, but I was wondering if there is a substitute for the 9 gauge wire? I've found the 14 gauge, but it seems to stop at 10 gauge in my country (Norway), and the 10 gauge I found was an amount of 650meters. I was hoping that 12 gauge could work or maybe an other type of wire? Thank you! I really like your videos!
@AubreyBouck_Brandavir
@AubreyBouck_Brandavir 5 жыл бұрын
The 10 and 12 gauge will both work, but the wings will need to be a little smaller than mine. I chose to use 9 gauge because of how big i wanted them, but I've seen many others that were smaller use 14 and even 16 gauge!
