Sorry mate, because I rebuild bilstein shocks, Your process of opening and closing the shock is draft, dangerous, and definately with no proper gas pressure installation... You need proper equipment to open/close this type of shocks safely and successfully... Please don't encourage others to follow your method

When we open a shock in the factoryline for Quality control we drill a hole in the Gas section and then we remove the snap ring the other wise is a press which can be closed after remove the snap ring and then you can let the oil, sealing piston and gas blow out safety. It is very very stupid to open a bilstein monotube at home whithout leaking the gas before removing the sealing package. Some oem units like landrover have a effektiv pressure over 1400psi . And normally we dont renew shocks like b6..b12.... just the clubsport or Motorsport shocks. The gasfilling must be the right pressure and the oilfilling must be under a vacuum or you cant use it upside down also the oil filling quantity is is very important to little oil and the valve piston says hello to the sealing piston ...

@@Gonzo693 Can you please explain how you fill the gas in B6 and B8 shocks at the factory since there is no port to do so. I don't mean rebuilding them, but during initial manufacturing. This has been puzzling me for some time. Or does a robot assemble them in a high nitrogen pressure room?.

@@pero2727 Sorry but it's not possible to say anything about it. We have robots for some assembly sections but its all about cycle time in the factory line. In the old days there was a type who was assembled with liquid nitrogen but then i'm not wrong it was only a prototype and some motorsport units because it is not accurate enough and dangerous

Can you please explain the gas refiling bit? Bilsteins take about 17bar of nitrogen gas. I don't understand how you could fill the shock with any more than 2 bar of what seems like normal air from a compressor with that seal tilting method?
