Before microwaving in the kitchen we used a gas or electric oven. I made some cookies that required alcohol so i grabbed my dad’s expensive whiskey. It blew open the oven door and a huge flame shot out and then the door closed and the oven continued working, best cookies ever.

Thank you for showing this, I have a template but I've never used it. One Christmas I was going to use it but I had bought some fabric online in Star Wars prints and when it arrived it felt printed, like a t-shirt with that kind of rubbery feel and then I got totally nervous about using it and never got around to them. Now I'm thinking this will be a nice extra thing to give at Christmas this coming year.

I use an afghan hook to push out the seams like where you sew the lining and outer together. I push out the edges and pin as you go and you get a really nice edge without having to keep rolling it with your fingers. That hook will work on corners too. Used that method for years. The hook won't poke through the fabric and it can reach places your fingers can't. About a size 10 and a size 7. I keep it right at the machine. I use them on my handbags too. Hardly ever used them on yarn.😊

Hi, I have a question about batting. Can you use up your thicker batting and only sewing batting on one side? Have you tried that? Can it be done?
@alexandra-zaza-burns6 ай бұрын
Great tutorial, these seem much easier than I thought they’d be. I think I’d leave the opening on one of the darts because I hate it when an opening is on a curve, especially when they have batting attached. I always make a dog’s dinner out of sewing a curve closed. When my mum got her first microwave I remember heating up a takeaway in a metal container and standing watching the arcs and sparks not knowing what to do. Luckily my mum came in and switched it off. That microwave stank for ages after that.

Tks for the great video. I have a brother cs7000x can you tell me what size needle do I use? Hard going over the darts.
@ISeeStarsQuilting4 ай бұрын
I am not very familiar with brother machines, but if your needle is having a hard time with the thicker fabric you may want to switch to a stronger one - look for a jean/denim needle. those are tough and can handle the bulk. 🥰
@Carol_Sews6 ай бұрын
Cozies are fun to make, but they are not one size fits all, so I just cut a fabric square and use a small bowl to help me round off the corners. I had to make several variations until I discovered what size fabric square I needed to start with and how long to make the darts so that the cozy would fit my dishes. If you use Wrap-No-Zap batting and preshrink it according to package instructions, you can use just one layer of batting. To be safe, I don’t put my cozies in the microwave. You made an engaging video.

You can usually tell by checking the fabric's feel and weight, but if you're unsure, reading the bolt is always a safe bet! Compare the weight and the feel to a fabric you know is 100% cotton

My Pellon Wrap-N-Zap pkg says cotton batting can shrink up to 5%. "To avoid shrinkage prior to use, we suggest you soak the batting in hot water for 20 mins, dry in the dryer on low setting for best results". I can predict that my bowl cozy will get food on it, so I'll be washing it every now & then. Has anyone had their batting shrink if they did not soak prior to sewing ?
