This is cool, but what advantage does it have over just heating it up in the forge?
@JuanEnriqueSerra8 жыл бұрын
Cosmic Cheetah, it's like having a better tool or automatic one instead the traditional way. Read about heating treatments and how to make a knife without forging. You can adjust temperature with the thermostate exactly to the diferent kind of materials to heat, for example. It's a great tool the oven!
@jarodmorris6118 жыл бұрын
Using a forge is a machine gun. An electrically controlled heat treat oven is like a sniper rifle. With the forge you're not exactly sure what temperature your metal reached, you just know it's not magnetic. Okay for 1095, O1, and some other steels, but some steels require specific temperatures for a set amount of time. Also, normalizing the steel is difficult in a forge, but not in an electric heat oven like this one.

Heat treated piece was the one that bent or the one that broke? Sorry for the noob question ;P. Anyways, great to have you back! Can't wait for future projects! Oh, one last question; are you self taught?
@ThatOneHumanMale9 жыл бұрын
Heat treating makes steel into a more crytaline structure. This makes it both super hard and kinda brittle. So the one that broke.
