Thanks for checking out this video. Now, I know most kits are a bag or bin in the trunk of a car... mine is a little non-traditional, but it works for me and fits my needs... which is the main point. I hope this video is helpful and educational for you! If so, give it a thumbs up, and make sure to subscribe so you don't miss any future content!

Also, leave a comment below of any suggestions you have for my kit!

Just wonderful, I been tryin to find out about "what you need in a survival backpack?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Pansaac Ideological Preeminence - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is a great one of a kind guide for discovering how to collate your effective bug out plan for survival without the headache. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my friend got cool results with it.

Can you really over due it for survival? I mean, is it better to have more than you need than less than you need to keep yourself and your family alive? Attitudes like these are why people die in survival situations. It's not bad to have less expensive gear in some cases, but if you skimp in the wrong areas it could easily cost you your life. Eyebrow pencils are great but if you are taking the time to fix your eyebrows, you either aren't in a survival situation, or you're likely going to die in a survival situation.

One thing you should all do is watch at least 50 survival kit, get home bag, bug out bag videos on youtube, before you decide to throw a kit like this together. And if you did before you made this video, you should watch 50 more. Survival isn't a game. You may think I'm being rude, but I'm actually trying to save your life. watch Dave Canterbury's 10 C's videos, you will learn a ton from him.

I LOVE your home-made bungee net on the top of your rear compartment. I’m definitely going to give that a try since it’s usually just wasted space. You’re right that most kits are an evolution over time, but may I make a couple suggestions? First, unwrap everything. It’ll make the load lighter and you’ll be amazed at how much more room you have! In the same way, ditch the plastic container and put your clothes in a ziplock freezer bag. Still water resistant, but lighter and less bulky. For the tool kit, throw in a basic multi-bit screwdriver, adjustable wrench, and pliers. Just those tools can solve a lot of basic problems. If you’re looking at a fire extinguisher, perhaps something like the First Alert Tundra would serve you well - it’s a 14oz can that looks like a can of hairspray. Even though I’ve only recently discovered your videos, I like them. And I like the way you’re doing this in a budget friendly, DIY, down to earth kind of way without recommending spending hundreds of dollars! Keep them coming!

RomeoJN thank you!! All great suggestions, and I definitely will continue working on my kit! I definitely do need to lighten the load of everything, but didn’t even think about unwrapping stuff since I bought it recently!! Great suggestions, thank you! The home kit will be coming in the next few weeks, and let me know if there’s any other videos or types of videos you’d be interested in!

Very nice video. And you're absolutely right about your adding more as you go along. Just 2 days ago I was stranded on I-95 in Northern VA for over 15 hours. I was so glad that I added a 10" folding saw and to my kit from Amazon. I also found another kIt that was priced very nicely. The kit included a small machete, hatchet and a hunting knife. It had rope fire starter and a bunch of other goodies. We had a small fire from tree limbs we cut with the saws and machete. We had others come out there cars to warm up. Then we made several fires along the road.

You’re right about kits evolving. I’d suggest flashlight,..headlamp. Hook the carabiners onto your bag, in case you do need to leave your vehicle quickly set up your bag with pouches or plastic bags so nothing is left out. Also, more snacks in your bag and get the glass water bottles to store your water in the car. You can get a pack of four Voss waters from tjmaxx or Marshall’s. Waterproof matches, a pad and pen..just to name a few

5x8 tarp for make shift shelter, work gloves, telescoping hiking pole, plastic bags, pop can stove, stanley adventure pot, aluminum stakes, match safe, 32oz water bottle of collapsible canteen (saves spaces), snap lights, insect repellent, mylar thermal blanket, multi tool, qtips, ball caps, cold or hot packs, bandanna, whistle, sun screen, eye drops, zip lock bag(s) for wet items or net bag, a very durable carabiner (not the cheap ones. Do your homework on these. You can use them to hang your bag up, make your shelter with paracord, secure items, etc. Amazon sells some nice ones based on weight and they are rugged). Oh, and dental floss. Nothing like being away from home with food stuck in your teeth. That’s annoying.

Very well thought out kit. You can also take an empty water bottle remove the label put about 2 pumps of liquid hand soap in it, add about an inch of isopropyl alcohol fill it up about 3/4 total with water. The alcohol should help it not freeze. This along with some paper towels and you can do an impromptu hand and face wash. Don't forget about a wool blanket, hoodie, heavy wool winter socks and an outer jacket. If it's severe winter weather might be nice to have a couple of cans of Sterno. They provide a low flame, they cannot spill they are easily extinguishable with the lid.

The FDA recommends storing bottled water in a car for no more than 1 year for sparkling water and 2 years for non-carbonated. However, this assumes that the water will remain consistently cool. If you live in a hot climate, 2 weeks or less is recommended since BPAs or other contaminants can leach into the water.

Jump cables, screwdriver and such, an extra bottle of oil, antifreeze, paper towels. These are things my father always taught me. Besides the other things, sand or kitty litter incase you get stuck.

Hi Reagan you are doing a great job. I believe by now you probably upgraded your kit but I have some suggestions. A beanie for cold weather and a hat or a cap for hot weather, sunscreen protection, and a mosquito repeller in case you have to leave your car on a hot day, and a couple of bandanas. They are very helpful. I would put the clothes in ziplock bags, they are waterproof and you can squeeze them very tight and you would have more space. I love plastic boxes but sometimes they are hard to accommodate in some places and they are heavier than a ziplock bag.

Things I would add are a Sharpie, a couple of regular pens, a notepad, a bag of hard candy, a few more fleece blankets, swap the thermal shirt with a sweatshirt for you and one for your husband and I'd go with a full case of water that stays in the car.

I appreciate a women's perspective. I made a kit for my girlfriend, ill be adjusting some things. I do want to say you should open that knife now and fold it. It'll be harder to do it when you need it. I also keep a small 4x4 brown tarp in her pack. Use it to sit on, or kneel if you have to change your tire. Packable poncho like a frogg togg. I recommend glow sticks and a smaller pry bar. It makes sense in the car as a tool and is good for defense. Second that fire extinguisher!

You need extra ammo for your carry gun, or if you don't carry, you should keep a .22 kit gun in your pack. Tru-fuel has a non ethanol fuel that comes in a sealed quart or gallon container. You can find it at lowes or home depot or in the garden section at a box store like walmart.

The "ringies" are called PALS webbing and made to attach pouches will MOLLE to the pack. Look it up, ends up making your small pack a whole lot bigger if need be. Upgrade your first aid kits with trauma gear. And get at least some knowledge of the trauma gear either by taking courses or from youtube. You have nothing to cook in or boil water. Buy a stainless steel bottle and some stainless steel cookware. bring a few coffee filters to filter out the dirt sand and twigs from the water before you boil it to make it safe. You should get a folding saw, a descent full tang knife and an axe or hatchet, as you don't know where you'll end up in a survival situation. Also some kind of cordage, and a tarp or tent, to keep you out of the elements.

I would love to keep a kit in my car but I live in a very hot and humid place. When it's 110 plus humidity it's not feasible to keep anything in my car at all. I can't keep pens or bandaids even because they explode or melt. I do have a bag that I can take back and forth but have also had problems with that because it gets so hot in the car, if I park car somewhere for a couple of hours stuff is getting ruined. I've even had a gallon of water melt in the trunk and leak all over. Any suggestions? The only stuff I have in my car that I keep in there without problems is emergency clothes, one outfit for every member of my family. I switch it out seasonally. Do you have a can opener in there with your cans? That's something I usually forget.

I think you've touched on a few things from general survival, car emergencies, and everyday convenience/minor inconveniences--all valid things to prepare for! But may I suggest that you take a more systemic approach? For example, let's take car emergencies. I would first seek to identify the most common roadside emergencies (flat tire, dead battery, torn radiator hose, lockout, minor collision, etc.). Then go through each and make sure you learn how to respond to each from a reputable source. Then and only then, check your existing kit for necessary gear (flat tire: scissor jack, tire chocks, lug wrench, plug kit, fix-a-flat, etc.) Then be sure to actually practice the use of the gear. Rinse and repeat. Survival: security, safety, shelter, fire, water, food, signaling, etc. Also, you say that you're concerned that you'll hurt yourself if you remove the pocket knife from the packaging but, if you believe that is inevitable, then isn't it better to do that now than in an emergency? That being said, I'm confident that you can handle it safely. Just remember basic knife safety rules like always cutting away from your body and watch your hand placement. I'm sure that there are relevant videos out there. 😊

About the knife I meant that I’d hurt myself trying to take it out while filming 😂 it’s no longer in the package! This is a “survival” kit, literally, and I have jumper cables, etc. up in the front of my car, separately so they are easier to get to.

Did you ever put gasoline in there? If not, here’s my suggestion. There’s a company called Atlantic british that sells Land Rover parts. If you go to their site and search for Jerry cans you’ll find a bunch of options. I would suggest the 10 liter Val pro can. Specifically the one they sell for ‘non potable water use only.’ Get that and a and a spout. Spray paint the green can red. I think that’s the best cheapest option.

U shouldn't keep water bottles in ur car especially in the summer the water can get bacteria on it from the plastic breaking down from the heat i just keep a gallon of water that i take in and out each day

I think I mentioned in the video, but I switch out the food and water bottles every 4-6 months so I’m not concerned about them breaking down.

Over all nice kit. The only recommendation is upgrade your knife. I have never trusted “$1” knifes there are cheap and can easily break causing more harm .

I had that nice and it indeed is a royal piece of crap. 😁 In the fishing section at Walmart, they sell a bootleg Mora-like knife for $3 and a mini multi-tool for $6. Even the Harbor Freight drop point folding knife is better than that one as a super duper budget starter or extra knife to have in a glove box or whatever. I've come to learn the importance of knives and multitools and have upgraded since. The other stuff is more "2 is one" now stuff. Knives can get pricey and when you're suddenly realizing you have 10% of what you should have in a car kit, get home bag, emergency/ prep stuff for the house, it gets overwhelming. If anyone out there is getting started and is on a budget, know that you can replace and build out accordingly.

I love your video , but for me the bottle water won’t work.the car gets so hot ,so the water won’t be safe for consumption anymore, but a glass or metal will work just fine ....

Your kit would be near useless in an SHTF situation. For starters you need a water purification system, sure you have bottles of water but they will run out after a couple days. Your kit is also lacking fire starting tools sure you have the two from Walmart but I would suggest having different ways to make fire such as ... Flint & Steel , Storm Proof Matches , Bic Lighter, Blast Match and many other's. I would also suggest having some sort of self defense weapon like a knife or firearm. I would also suggest an emergency sleeping bag and emergency ponchos. I am not trying to be hateful so please don't delete my comment I just want to help other preppers.

kaykayes Jr I think you’re missing the point of my “realistic, practical, and budget friendly kit.” I do have practical fire starters, such as the lighters you mentioned, and I do have a knife. (9:31) I do have a sleeping bag which I believe I mentioned in the beginning of the video (1:57) I had moved to the backseat for the sake of filming. And as far as a “water purification system” I mentioned in the pinned comment on this video that I would like to add a Lifestraw to my kit for this purpose, however those are $17-$20 a piece so I wanted to prioritize the items in my kit. You say you’re not trying to be hateful, but saying my kit would be “near useless” contradicts that statement. I understand you making suggestions, and I’m all for that, but please be cautious and respectful when doing so.

@@reaganpruitt1578 He or she is right though. It would be not so useful in a SHTF long term or some zombie apocalypse that the CDC just recently announced telling us to prepare for it. Also, an emergency sleeping bag is different from a regular sleeping bag. It's better to get an emergency sleeping bag to that you can carry in your pocket that is designed to keep you alive in extreme weather vs a regular one.
