Oh my! Brings back memories of my sons & their buddies making stink bait, with my processor! (Yes!, I made them buy me a new one). chicken guts make great catfish bait. Get them intestines on the hook & the fish can't get it off. And drying in te house oven - nope!, Sun dried at our house. LOL

I grew up using dough balls but ours was corn flakes with some canned corn and little lake water and maybe even some chopped up hot dogs. Mix it up thick enough that it almost was like clay. Always worked! :-) Gotta say I'm so thankful there is not smell-o-vision! :-)

I use stink bait . What you had before the flour is what I use peanut butter is a good thickener . I also take shrimp or other small fish cut up in vegetable oil. Let the jar sit with the lid loose out in the shed. A couple of freeze cycles is going to hurt anything at all. When it is tine ti fish pour a little of of the oil into the water and the fish will come looking for the source. You can also dip your bait in the oil too.

when we cast for shrimp we "chum" with a can of cheap, the cheaper the better, dog or cat food that we poke a bunch of holes in, that would probably work as well as the livers... fishing the St Johns and its tributaries the cats will hit dang near anything, we found one once with a 6-8" child's rubber ball stuck in its mouth, it couldn't dive so this ball just kept hopping out of the water.... yaw have fun!

Cool. I never been one for catfish, but learned a few things about how to bleed a catfish recently and also how to get the strong taste out of the meat. We do like fishing, but catfish we usually throw back. Not anymore, now I know what to do and also to make bait. Only bait I ever prepared is roe sacks. And even though I can skewer a worm or attach minnows to a hook, helgamites, leaches, live frogs still gross me out. LOL.
@MrRedforman15 жыл бұрын
Yeah I couldn't hook a live frog. What I do is throw the frogs on the ground really hard to knock them out and then hook them.

When you said "What? Like we're the only people who keep fish heads in our refrigerator." I just broke out laughing. Words and actions were EXACTLY what my younger brother would have said and done. Oh the comedy!! Love it. But I have to admit when you put the night crawlers in the processor I was thinking "Oh, please no. His wife is going to kill him." Then I decided that as long as it was washed and hopefully bleached it might be ok.

I picked up a used food processor at the resale shop for 5 bucks specifically for this sort of thing. I also use anise oil and cheap vanilla extract. leftover shad guts left over in the freezer are a great addition. I've found prepared stinkbaits work ok for eating size channel cats for the freezer or fish fry but if you're trying for large blues or flatheads you need live or fresh cut bait. Turn those big ones loose and eat the small ones. They're your breeding stock and they've been more likely to accumulate high levels environmental toxins anyway.
@chrisw93998 жыл бұрын
Love your channel, many parallels from life on the other side of KZbin Land. Tbh I think the food processor was almost crying about what you put in it. On the upside, freshly caught and cooked fish is one of life's great pleasures, and cheap white vinegar is great for sanitising and removing any smells from plastic ;)

You can use my food processor as long as you clean it out WELL when you are finished. LOL. My grandpa used a dough bait made with cheese, livers, eggs, wheaties cereal and a bottle of cheap vanilla extract. I wish I could remember the exact recipe, but he sure enough caught fish.
@bkjustice93908 жыл бұрын
Yep, my grammaw put vanilla extract in her homemade dough bait as well.
@Nortekj8 жыл бұрын
The recipe is a cup of ALL PURPOSE flour, a cup of plain yellow corn meal, and other options are one egg, couple hands full of crumbled Wheaties, tablespoon of sugar and water to form a stiff ball If using any of the items you listed in your post that contains a liquid the water can be cut back so that the mixture still forms a stiff ball when mixed, put ball of bait into a rapidly boiling pot of water and bring back to a rapid boil for 10 minutes, remove from water and immerse into a cold bath of water and cool enough to be kneaded thoroughly, then add the imitation vanilla flavoring and knead thoroughly again to the point where the bait becomes sticky but firm, place into a plastic bread bag. to use pinch off amount to cover hook into a teardrop shape and do your fishing. This type of Dough ball is good for, Carp, Catfish, Bluegill, or any bottom feeder types of fish. REMEMBER to add the imitation vanilla flavoring to the semi boiled ball of mixture ONLY after it has cooled enough to handle with bare hands, and that the ball of bait has to still be warm when finished kneading so that after it is placed into the plastic bread bag closed it will begin to sweat, That's what keeps the bait malleable and sticky. Another good Catfish bait is to use Beef Melt aka Beef pancreas,(you can get these from slaughter houses), skin the pancreas as you would a beef liver and cut into 1 x 3/4 inch cubes and place into a zip lock bag, Best fresh blood bait money can buy. Be fore warned you will just about have to beat the remaining chunk of beef melt off the hook when all the blood leaches out or at the end of fishing, it has many connective tissues to it.

1. 1lb. sharp cheddar. 2. 1lb. tallow. 3. 1lb. brains. Grind thoroughly, put in 5gal. bucket, plastic garbage bag on top. Dig hole just deeper than bucket. Place bucket in hole, cover and wait a couple three days. Take up, stir thoroughly, put back in hole, repeat but now every day for a couple of weeks. Do this in summer. Get some hooks around size 6 and some sea sponge. Rig a good pole with braided line around 15# - 20#. Hook on end, small split shot up about 6". Small split shot. Not big, but small split shot. Put a piece of sponge about the size nickel or quarter on hook, dip and drop line into a thick log pile in small river or large creek. Profit.

Put some spam, some cherry cool aid, and some old freezer burned fish in a blender. Make a paste and spread a generous amount on a 4x6 inch piece of white cloth. An old sheet or t-shirt works. Roll up the cloth so it is 6 inches long. Tie it on one end with string or twine. Hook it once through the tied end. That is it. Use like a jerk bait or plastic worm. You might have to rig it Georgia style with some lead. If you have some fresh fish with a head and guts, add that to the blender, too. This last part is very important. Throw it all away and don't be so gullible next time

@peelmeone8 жыл бұрын
I've seen it used as a kid growing up in eastern Oklahoma. The fluff gets broken apart and mixed in with the dough bait. The strands knit together and help the bait hold together and help it stay on the hook. Cottonwood and thistle fluff would work the same way. Just depends on what nature is providing at the time, I guess.
