Now the shutters and posts make sense together, very beautiful

the only thing Id suggest is leaving 1 inch at the base and putting stone, brick, or concrete at the base (to prevent rot). I also would leave that room for seasonal wood expansion so it doesnt expand and break your carport. If you have a router, you can also pre build the boxes 3 sides and use 45 degree a lock mitre bit and tite bond 3 glue. You want exterior grade nails or deck screws as fasteners also or you might get rust streaks over time.

Here's an idea... at the end, show the final product, next to a picture of the metal pole. In my opinion, that gives a better feeling for how much better it looks and how much it was worth the effort and money. Thanks for all you do!

Awesome job. I am guessing the support pole is 3.5 inches in diameter. Why did you use a 1x5 plank as a 1x4 is a more exact fit for a 3.5 inch support pole. Fits more snug and is an exact fit when using with the 2x6 .Thanks.

Did you ever do a video on wrapping the wrought iron? I couldn’t find it.
@thesimplifiedsaver3 жыл бұрын
No, we ended up painting them because the wrap wouldn't line up with the bricks below it.

Nice but the bottom shouldn't touch the floor to prevent moisture so wood won't warp.

Amateur tip: When using a hammer to position a piece of wood, use a bit of scrap as a buffer between the head of the hammer and your finished piece. That will distribute the impact and prevent imprinting the texture of the head into the wood. The less sanding and finishing, the better, imo.

That is pine not cedar. Don't disrespect cedar like that!
@larryburks5923 жыл бұрын
How can you tell the difference
@nandologia3 жыл бұрын
@@larryburks592That's actually a whitewood, probably poplar. It's sold at the big box store as studs. Pine tends to be yellower and heavier (Southern Yellow Pine at least). Cedar has a reddish tint and it's usually sold at the big box store with raised grain. Besides, it would be many times the price that she mentioned.

The pine you are using is a lot cheaper than cedar but will not last as long.
