I'm a cosmetologist but haven't practiced for a number of years, either. I did my own blonde from a level 4 dark brown for years, but then went back to natural a couple years ago, but hate it. Hesitant to do my own again, even with my experience, but you did such an amazing job. Truly amazing! Looks great! And as someone else mentioned, it would be in the $200 range or more. You saved a ton!

Amateur tip: while doing this process I had a really hard time holding 2 foils in place. I used the foils with one side colored and what I did was put the colored sides together, fold one end over twice them unfold it. You now have a super long single foil to work with, which if you're not super experienced at foils like I am this was a BIG HELP! Prep your double foils in advance if you have long hair!!

Did this three months ago and got so many compliments on my hair! My hair is naturally a chocolate brown with some natural highlights in it, but I wanted to dye my hair a light purple so I used this method for a natural looking ombre that would be light enough for me to put light purple over it with semi-permanent hair dye. I liked the lightened hair so much that I left it for about a month before I actually dyed it purple. A quick disclaimer, I am no professional and have actually never bleached my hair at home before this. Somehow with absolutely no bleach experience whatsoever, my hair came out looking really great! Don't be scared, immediately after bleaching it looked a little yellow and orangey but once you add in the Wella toner that orange goes right away and evens out to a nice blonde! My friend liked it so much that she has asked me to do this to her hair as well! Definitely recommend this method to anyone looking to bleach at home! Even after bleaching, my hair feels soft and healthy with very little damage! I follow up with a deep conditioner once a week and just leave it on in the shower for about 15 minutes to keep my hair healthy. I couldn't get a hold of the It's a 10 miracle deep conditioner she suggests so I ended up going with Mielle Babassu and Mint Deep Conditioner and absolutely LOVE the smell! Definitely recommend!

Seriously you should get a million likes. Not even kidding. Thank you! -1. OMG I so appreciate you using something the average person can buy! Every other video is either a licensed cosmetologist using professional products or amateurs doing something I’ve never seen before with sometimes decent results.(sometimes not) I have had hit or miss with Sally’s products but many times they work it’s just over the years I’ve forgotten which did really well. 2. That was so easy to follow and though it seems like a lot, those of us who have done this before know, that was a huge and successful shortcut. Doing the weaving how you did and then balayage-amazballs! I have similar hair as you (long) mine is a bit lighter from occasional diy highlights. So this was so great. Even your bathroom with the toys was familiar!😂 I have 2 littles 👫 and they have too many bath toys. Lol

Hi, i wanna dye my hair just like her, or i wanna get a natural brown color, i have black hair so i have no idea how to get it natural brown, i have no idea what products to buy to get it, and is it safe to color my hair again after i have had hair damage? I got the damage 2 years ago so i dont know if its still safe cause some of my hair is falling out, not extremely much just a little. I also have like white things when i scratch my head. But yea i really need a natural looking brown color that it looks like its not dyed. Thanks if you can help me
@TiffanysBunnyGang4 жыл бұрын
John Henry Tran my suggestion is to do a 2 step protein and moisturizer treatment called aphogee before any color. Also use coconut oil on your scalp & hair for a week each night and wash off each morning before you color. The only way to lighten your hair is bleach or a hi lift color. I suggest a gentle bleach like Clairol Kaleidocolors to lighten to desired amount. After that you can use either a mix of darker toners like a Wella T14 (ash tone) a T10 ( beige tone) & a T28 (natural blonde). To get a light brown just don’t let the bleach set as long and use a level 20 developer not a 30 or mix.

John Henry Tran one more thing to do is do a deep conditioning about 3 days after color. Shea Moistures I think is the brand name has a lot of good deep conditioning treatments, they have it at Sally’s or Walmart. A leave in conditioner spray is also a good idea after each shower. This is the process I use after going blonde. I have medium brown hair and had to bleach several times to lighten to the shade I wanted. My hair is so healthy looking a very soft.

I love this hair hack. The results are really impressive. The bit I didn't quite understand is when you put the T11 and T14 on your hair. I tried this today at home after watching the video thousands of times, I've never bleached my hair by myself before, although I had the exact same hair as Melissa due to a balayage I had 8 months ago at the salon. I bought everything she listed including the wella color charm in case I needed to smudge the roots. I started doing the technique with the foils, 30 dev on roots and 20 on previous dyed hair and the rest of balayage, everything went ok except I ran a bit out of bleach+30 on one side of the head ( I have long hair and was trying to make it perfect) but managed to cover. I left the bleach for more than hour and then toned it. In the end the roots lifted very white (my hair is originally dark brown) so I had to smudge with the wella color charm (I used 10 vol dev). My hair looks great! It didnt turn orange after the bleach. I also used hair mask after the whole process as well. Thanks for the video!

Thank you for this information. My hair used to be a medium golden blonde but I wanted to try a darker reddish brown to match the hair growth underneath. It looked really great on me...until the gray started growing in and then it was a nightmare. I tried to keep up with it but eventually the gray won out. So I let it grow several inches and then used an ion medium blonde to cover the gray with a 20 volume developer. Problem is that the ends are still really dark and I want a more uniform color distribution. Right now the top of my head is gray and the funky darker color is still on the bottom. With the quarantine in place and not working I figured it was not as urgent to deal with the gray. I went to the salon to inquire about the color blending and cost to do it. I was told that bleaching that bottom area would damage it and the gal at the salon suggested a weave to help with blending the 2 colors. As you said...expensive. I was quoted around $150 to have that done at Perfect Look but the gal I spoke with does not do color and suggested coming back when the colorist was there to verify the price. I do not know how to do a weave and am not comfortable doing it on my own in spite of your demo. I wish there was an easier way. :-((

My natural is mostly grey mixed with 6 or 7 level

I have been using nutrisse hair dye every 6 weeks for the last 3 times. I will be going in a pool this week. Will the chlorine change the color?

I love the results! i was wondering if you or anyone else would recommend another deep conditioner that isn't so heavily scented? I have major problems with fragrances namely florals or sandalwood types but unscented or fruity do not cause problems. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
@rachaelteague75783 жыл бұрын
Isnt floral and fruity in the same category? 🤷🏻♀️
@josieelling82943 жыл бұрын
@@rachaelteague7578 No fruit smells entirely different as it is lighter & smells natural. Floral falls into the category of perfumes which are heavier lingering scents that can be overpowering to those of us with sensitivities. They also tend to be a blend of multiple florals & other things like sandalwood & musk. Fragrances have become an issue with a lot of people & when I had to go to conferences many of them banned perfumes & colognes.

Thank you soo much I've been using henna but miss being blonde & definitely don't want to go back to chemicals as it ruined my hair.

How long did you leave the bleach? And the toner? Did u wash just with water after bleaching and then applied toner?
@Celine.274 жыл бұрын
Hi. I usually buy drug store hair dye but i came across your video and wanted to give your method a try. Im scared to use actual bleach specially doing it by myself. Although you made it looked so easy. I had my hair professionally bleached about 2 years ago and i just keep retouching my roots with regular drug store hair dye. (Ive been dying my own hair in many years so i somewhat know how to do it but im not professional) So my hair isnt too dark but almost like dark blonde with brown roots. I found a quick blue bundle on amazon with wella T18 toner and 20 volume developer. Its a bundle so i figured its a good deal. On your video i saw that you had that big developer bottle and 2 small developers, but im wondering if I can use the same developer on quick blue and wella? Is it necessary to have different ones?
@joshmeyers2044 жыл бұрын
What i dont understand is why the toner didnt lift your roots at all I know color doesnt lift color But unless you colord your roots like a week or less before you did this The 20 volume would have lifted even the tiny bit of regrowth that you would have had

Love this color I have a question maybe u can help I have super dark hair almost black And I went super light blonde .and now I put a light golden brown color over the blonde . And my black roots are growing out. What would I use to get my dark roots to match my light golden brown hair without bleach Can u use a box color

Really good tips thank you. My hair is dark brown and I have never did any highlights or balayage befor. I used to dye it whole at home with the kits containing color cream and developer and conditioner. I will do what you did and hopefully I will success. Did you shampoo your hair after applying the coconut oil and the other product? And after the toner you didn't do any color? Maybe a silly question but i really don't know what toner do exactly and how to use it. I want more ashy to blue or purple tone, what I must do ?

My hair I believe is a level 4 dark brown (natural hair color). I want to get to a level 7 balayage. I'm still a bit lost on how to use/mix the hair color, toner and developer???? Hair color dye goes first. The toner mixes with the developer if the color comes out brassy?
@TiffanysBunnyGang4 жыл бұрын
All Light ® for an ashy/ purple tone use Wella T18 toner with 20 volume developer after bleaching.

Great job! I have a question for you-how can you prevent toner from lifting the rest of your unlightened hair when using a 20 volume developer? I typically use a 10 volume so it just deposits, but sometimes I’d like to get a little extra lift without messing up my darker sections. Hope that makes sense.
@tanzis35873 жыл бұрын
After bleach highlights or balayage just rinse the hair and individual sections tone them and cling film it or foil it again to avoid to touch the dark hair . And usually in salon at this process we colour the dark area to cover grey or something els they want. If it makes sense ?

You are awesome because you did amazing work. Also this color is very good on you. ❤ i just want to make sure that you shared wella developer and salon developer which of them for toner which one for breaching Could you please tell me 🎉❤🎉

You should commit to the Salon Care developer it is a good line. After my aunt stopped working in a salon she started doing bookings to her house and she has been using it for years. I've used that same developer for a while and it works very well and it's my absolute favorite.

This video has been very helpful because I just bought some products from Sally's beauty supply and plan to do a similar change. I'm a natural dirty blonde/light brunette with some grays coming in. What would you recommend for roots with this process???

I was looking at getting a packet of Ardell Red Corrector to prevent brassiness, would you reccomend these toners instead? I was going to use a box dye. I have the same natural hair color you have. I am interested in looking like you.

I know u aren’t a professional hair stylist but I’ve dyed my hair a few times, dark brown, red, and a month and a half ago a red ish brown and now my hair is a light brown with a reddish tone. I really wanna go back to my natural hair color which is a super light brown and do this! I’ve always wanted to go blond so would color remover get rid of the red tone and get me back to my natural color? I’ve heard it lightens ur hair and I don’t want that lol what do I do?

Omg im so happy you Posted this and then I caught it right before I’m doing my hair so I pretty much got everything that I supposed to get except I noticed that you have a separate developer for your bleach. Do I need that? All I have now as it is a big bottle of 40. Should I go get like a 20 to mix with my toner? I didn’t get hair dye either Should I get both?

Wella Toner is actually a permanent colour (it does say so on the box) so it is just permanent dye and needs to be mixed with peroxide / developer. Real toner just coats the hair and is a specific formula to work with 10 vol peroxide / developer.
