Nice job! I would've used a 12v pump cause no matter where you locate the tank you'll always have power via the vehicle you're fueling.

What did you use for the rust proof coating? Was it fluid film or another type and how did you apply it? Also how exactly did you clean the inside of the tank? I have recently acquired an old heating oil tank like yours and will spend this winter converting it into a diesel fuel tank

I like herculiner with a roller over sanded metal, buy it in can at menards and I did two coats and they painted with exterior paint. The inside of the tank I found best to use diesel fuel and fill like five gallons and roll around a lot and then dump out with two people. You can also use mineral spirits and do the same, wear gloves and masks since smells, then dry well and then when you fill first time make sure you drain any water out after you get it almost emptied and then once every couple years there after as that crap settles tot he bottom of these beasts

free tank, pump $250 and hose $50 and new filter and handle $50 and wood for sled base $25, the heculiner and paint about $50

I have a filter on the pump that came with the the pump and on the tank I took air breather filter and installed it in one of the threaded holes using pumping pipe 3 inches long. In the event of a fire caused or consumed by the home made fuel tank your losses would not be covered by insurance...

+Terry Phillips State farm is pretty cool on that, we actually have it insured, but your right there are rules: the tank cant be inside the building and tank has to contain fuel oil based products like diesel or home heating fuel or kerosene only, cant use for gas since the tank was not made for gas, thats a bummer but we just use smaller red can tanks for that. Funny though if you store a gas can in the barn with out new proper spout that could default the insurance also unless you can prove the can was made prior to like 1999.

Maybe put a sign or label on the tank so people do not put Diesel fuel in a gas car... Label it "Diesel" or "Farm Diesel". Thank you for the video ! tjl

people? what people? it's on private property and in the country. County people KNOW a fuel tank on a farm is Diesel .....

Who is around the fuel tank? They should be aware of what is in it, and why the tank is there. It's there because it is much harder to drive a tractor to town for diesel fuel than your car which regularly drives by several gas stations. So if a thief pulls up to your tank and puts diesel fuel in the tank of their gasoline engine it will be easier to find them as they will go from a car that ran well to one that runs like crap in the blink of an eye. It will take a couple of tanks of gas to get it all cleared out and run like it should.

I just purchase tank like that which was used for diesel on farm . the same shape but i was told is 170 galons capacity . if you please write for me the info about paints and rust proff products .. . then where to purchase and how much cost you the pump ,house and nozle ..any special fittings ?
