Of course you could do the stupid thing and waste time at the breaker panel. But a smart guy would simply turn off the light switch and put a piece of tape over it, just in case the dog was thinking about turning it on.

You have a point there but I always play it safe...... with little kids running around.... my luck, they would remove the tape and turn on the light thinking they are helping 😂

It looks like you did not connect the copper braid to the green ground screw.

I just checked and you are right. I didn't connect the ground to the green screw but I did connect the ground to the ground wire going into the house....

so to recap, there are two ways of doing this, connect the wire to the ground going into the house or connect to the green screw..... either way, it achieved the same goal, getting ground.
