I’m so happy you like the videos! I tried to make a quilt when I first started sewing and back then I knew nothing about sewing. I thought it would be a great idea to have my first quilt be triangles 😂. I guess I like a challenge, but it’s been half finished in my closet for 4 years. I could probably do it now and not have to many problems, but I maybe should have started with a simpler pattern for my first quilt. And it is for a king size bed. 🤦‍♀️

Nick Ground thank you! I typically make my hammock at least 18 x 18, I have 4 ferrets, but they usually sleep in groups if two and I found 6 inche long straps is a pretty good length for hanging the hammocks. Although the length will depend on where you are putting the hammock in the cage and how far you want it to hang down. There super easy to make. Honestly, so are the cage liners. If you can make the hammock, you can definitely make the liners. Unfortunately due to shipping cost and supplies, I couldn’t really make the price less on Esty. That’s partially why I do the tutorials, I know the liners are expensive to buy, but cheaper if you make them yourself. I guess that’s not great business practice for me, but I love that other people do videos showing how to make stuff, I just want to do the same for other people because it’s been so helpful to me and my ferrets!

gaming wit lucas and oreo Charles I use printable tattoo paper from the craft store it amazon for the temp tattoos and I add my images/design in microsoft word or a free picture making app and then print it on the tattoo paper from my home computer. I just ran across this video, and I want to attempt to make one of these hammocks. The question I have is if my cage is 23 inches deep, how much do I adjust for the straps?

@@shirleyharger I cut my straps 10” inches long and fold them in half before sewing them into my hammock. In addition, the hook I use to hang them is 1 inch long so when everything is sewn my hammock typically hangs about 5 inches from the top of the cage. (I use metal shower hooks like these to hang my hammocks: amzn.to/3C7k1k0) If you fold your straps in half to create a loop for the hook to go on, I would recommend measuring how far down from the cage you want your hammock to hang and then cut your strap double that measurement . I would measure your hook to see how long that is, so you can take that the hook length into account when cutting your straps. Also, if you sew a 1/4” seam, you so you will lose 1/4” from length off of your strapping when your hammock is complete. The length that I use for my basket, hammock works great if I hang it over top of the small shelf in my cage so that the ferrets can easily access it, but if I I hung it anywhere, but above the small shelf, I would recommend making the straps a bit longer. I also have a video on several different hanging methods that shows how to make adjustable straps and shows some other ways to can hang a hammock. i did have a question about pricing my hammocks that I plan on selling. Is the price mainly based on the material used? I found really good fleece for $15 a yard and cotton for $13 a yard. Would like $25 be a decent pricing for a hammock that's about 7x7 made with those materials listed? I hope this makes sense lol

Riley Clark so I have an Esty shop and my pricing is based on the fabric/material cost, the shipping cost, and what prices other Esty shops use. I don’t know where you are going to sell them, but if it’s on Esty or a similar platform, I recommend checking out the prices of your competitors based on size and material. I personally think $25 is a bit high for a 7x7, but if the material is super nice, you may be able to do it, I would recommend stressing the quality of the material. There are so many types of fabric, fleece and it sounds like you are using the luxury fleece or that amazingly soft fleece. That stuff is definitely more expensive than Blizzard or Anti-pill, but is much nicer too. And some people will do and buy anything for their pets. I had a lady a few months ago buy $500 worth of cage liners and hammock. I was so grateful, but also surprised that she ordered so much at one time. Her ferrets are definitely living the good life 😂

Riley Clark o that changes it. I definitely think you could ask for more. Hand sewing takes much more time than machine sewing. Plus I think people really like things that are hand sewn. It’s just different and more personal. At least that’s my opinion
