things ive learned from having my ferrets for 4 years: 1) dont use water bottles theyre bad for their teeth, use bowls! 2) if you get one that's young they aren't hard to litter train. then use fleece as bedding and recycled newspaper litter (NOT cat litter) especially nice in the winter 3) take them to the vet! both of my ferrets have either adrenal gland problems and both definitely have chronic diarrhea😂they cost a lot in vet bills but very worth it

I watched a ferret video, and the person said that when he gives his ferret non-filtered water/faucet water, it gets bad diarrhea. So if you use non-filtered water that might be why, anyway, I hope you have a really good rest of your life lol, and I hope your ferrets get better :)

I just found out today that Marshalls can actually give a ferret cancer. I've been working on a list to try and convince my parents to let me get a ferret. Thank you for posting videos on these great little pets. I had two, an all white deaf male named "Trouble", and a sable female named "Baby- girl".. They were my wife's and I first pets. We researched everything and bought them a three story condo, fed them the Wysong, were ultra aware of ferret proofing our home. They were so good about becoming litter box trained, and we loved and enjoyed them more than I can explain for approximately 5 years.. Unfortunately they both developed adrenal issues followed by cancers, which forced me to put each of them down. (First Baby-girl, followed by Trouble four months later) I can honesty tell everyone that this 6'3 240 lb biker took those two losses so hard. (I couldn't hold it together at all during the... Ya know) They left our home to travel the rainbow bridge ten years ago. I would love to eventually have some more little carpet pirates at some point. Buuuut... Even watching joyous videos of ferrets brings back memories and extreme sense of my little buddies loss. Plus we now have a 100 lb pit bull mix we rescued some years ago, and I don't think that'll be a very good mix. Anyway. I just wanted to tell you what a wonderful job you're doing with your ferrets and I enjoyed your videos on them. Thanks for reading me babble away about my story.

Can you do a daily cleaning routine, where you make a video each time you clean an animals enclosure, (because I know that each animal’s enclosure cleaning day is different) and combine them all? Important fact about desexed ferrets: in North America they're desexed VERY young before being sold, and unfortunately this ultimately causes a lot of health problems throughout their lives. It's much more beneficial to buy them without being desexed, and getting them neutered around 6 months of age, like you would with a puppy or kitten.

I recommend getting a ferret from a good breeder. I've always had Marshalls but this last time I got a Ravenest ferret from a breeder in Murrsyvilla, PA (near Pittsburgh) and the differences are stark! The private bred baby is thick, plump, and can get around super easily. My Marshalls baby is thin, deaf, and is a bit of a spazz (he definitely can't get around as well as she can). Do your research on ferrets, and when you think you got it all, do more lol. There are endless things to learn about these pets!

If you let your ferrets roam make sure all small object are picked up. Long thin objects too like string. Their intestines can easily get wrapped and blocked.

I give my ferret oatmeal baths with a little bit of coconut oil (that don't strip animals from their natural oils also used it for my dogs) when she gets poop stuck on her fur somehow or decides to lay on her pee, and her fur it's really nice now compare when I got her and doesn't really smell at all compare to when I used shampoo on her.

Thanks to this video I will be taking my ferrets off the Marshall ferret diet and putting them on the wysong epigen 90 digestive formula. I went to a pet store last year and saw some very cute ferrets. I asked the workers if ferrets were hard to take care of and do they need a lot of maintenance, in which they responded saying that they do not require a lot of maintenance and that they are SUPER easy to care for. Is this true?

Animefreakfan006 depends on your definition of hard to look after. I would say they aren't hard, but A LOT goes into providing the best for them. If you are considering getting some very thorough research is a must. Lol I did research for over 2 years before I got my babies, I'm not joking.

They're a fair amount of work. Bare minimum 4 hours outside the cage each day, try to eat everything they shouldn't, climb up or in everything they shouldn't, lots of health problems in old age for American mill ferrets, and the exotic vet is not cheap. Yearly exams and vaccines. They're like having a hoard of toddlers that can jump, climb, and squeeze into tiny places.

It depends of your person opinion... I have cattle, horses, dogs, and many, many, goats and so I’m prepared for my ferrets that I’m getting soon (: because I’m used to the responsibility and that’s why I don’t recommend ferrets as beginner pets based on the research I’ve seen.

I'm on team Rats :') They are super sociable and crave attention, are much less likely to bite than a hamster and aren't as delicate in case your child accidentally drops one. They can eat almost anything (with a few small exceptions - also boys can't have citrus and they obviously shouldn't be eating anything high in sugar or salt) and kids can get really involved in making/crafting things for rats, like chew toys and hammocks (they are smart enough to know what's not food so quite a lot of toys and materials are suitable for them!). They have very distinct personalities, are great fun to watch and, just like Ferrets in the video, as long as the cage is cleaned properly and often they don't smell much at all - in fact the rats themselves have a very comforting smell! (rat huffing is a thing in the rat community!). Also they're not too difficult to litter train :) They can be a bit prone to health issues, and only live 2-3 years, 4 if you're incredibly lucky, but they are absolutely ace and like tiny dogs! :)

Micki Babe actually ferrets are pretty easy as far as pets go. They sleep most of the day so they don't need as much attention as other animals.

Mai2727 That isn't true at all actually. If your ferret is constantly asleep it may be depressed or have another problem. Attention-wise they are similar to dogs. A real commitment.

Thank you KINDLY for this info! I grew up with a squeezel. And I really want one again, however, the knowledge you gave says it may not be the beat choice. No matter how badly I'd love to have a ferret again.
