That's what I like to call a happy mistake. I don't know what they were supposed to look like but they look amazing the way they are. I love the light showing around the edges and the inner sections.

Absolutely gorgeous!! I think the light leak was a happy accident, and the way you made it work to your advantage was genius! I think using the light to accentuate some of the lines throughout the wing is such a good idea, especially if it's night time and dark out, and you might otherwise not be able to see all of the details! Thanks so much for this tutorial, I hope now I can apply some fiber optics to my future costumes!

Bravo. Try a test to see if you warm the pvc Mylar your using a heat gun, it may allow you to shrink some wrinkles or form shapes like a feather shape. I built effects for Disney and universal for three years. Check out safety wire it’s stainless steel, there is techniques for aircraft that makes it fine and then you can paint epoxy glue to connect the lashing to them. There is a fishing line called dyneenma. That allows you to lash things together then coat with epoxy makes a nearly unbreakable bond. I had to make ultra light weight effects for the light parade, I created a new version of the jelly fish that rotate and dance all lit up (took a third of the weight out of the existing ones) there is fiberglass rod that can be use to create actuating rods and stiffer parts and hinges to make the wings move more or have more control. Nice video. Purple Scotch bright will make more light come out of the fiber optics too. There is a plastic called Kydex that can be formed into very comfortable parts like your back brace. Use a fan it cuts with a jig saw and smoothes with sand paper. Barge cement stinks but it’s a contact adhesive (you put it on both items let dry for twenty minutes then press together and it’s permanent.) works on shoes great for foam and fabric on rubber, and plastics. Will watch for more.

The main reason why I watched this video was for the effect that turned out to be a happy "mistake" as Bob Ross would say. I really love the accidental light framing/light bleeding of the wing details. I honestly thought it was on purpose and I wanted to recreate the light effect. Thank you for the tutorial and for being so detailed in your making of these wings.
@paisliesplace39213 жыл бұрын
These wings are phenomenal!!! "No mistakes, just happy accidents" Bob Ross. I think it was a happy accident having the bleed out and then you sanding a bit to accentuate it. If we had not have seen what you went through with the bleed out, we would have no idea that final look was not intentional. Just brilliant!! Have you gotten to wear them out any where yet? These wings must be seen by many!!! Thank you for sharing your process!!! I love these wings!!!

@@LadyofFaewood A KZbinr named RobertoVitucciLeatherPatterns does leather work wings that shows how. I edited both your patterns to make my own once I knew the basics of what to do. It was actually easier to do than expected. Also, I used eyelets in the base of the wings, so there's no bar going down the back of a corset or straps around the arms. The wings sew into the back of a corset using ribbon or cording. It was so fun making them, I'm making more to sell in my Etsy.

Obviously the light effect makes these wings absolutely .... *_b r e a t h taking_* (seriously, those are the most gorgeous wings I've ever seen on here ✨💜✨) BUT what I wanted to comment on was how happy I am that I've finally found someone who STITCHES the wings instead of gluing them!! I was so so discouraged before with my project, and I was afraid stitching them would somewhat be unprofessional of me, but now I have so much more confidence. I'd rather make one pair of really durable wings instead of making new floppy ones every single time I need wings. I love you, thank you for all this lovely content and your amazing energy!! 🤗✨💕💕 #rolemodel

How did you sew the wire and plastic together (is there a specific stitch name, I'm just trying to understand)? These look WAY easier to me than the cellophane wings that scare me. I just might be making myself some wings...
@LadyofFaewood4 жыл бұрын
I dont know what the name of the stitch would be actually, but I would do one straight stitch alongside the wire, go across to the other side of the wire and do another straight stitch..if that makes sense, it's hard to describe stitches. I didn't want a zigzag stitch because I wanted the stitches to be in line with the wire so instead I was doing alternating straight stitches on either side of the wire. They definitely take time to make but I'm so happy with the outcome 😊

Would you recommend using PVC for regular wings that don’t light up? I like the shiny iridescent look but worried about using fire & seeing the wrinkles that comes with using cellophane so I’m thinking maybe PVC is a good alternative. Thank you, love your wings! 😍🧚🏾♀️

The brown paper reminds me of old fashioned dress/clothing patterns. I think this might be a better idea than the cardboard in that respect. :) I'm surprised tape wouldn't pull off the iridescence. Personally, I don't think most people will notice the stitches with that amount of shine from the iridescence. These are gorgeous wings! I think you've started on your way from costume designer to adding effects creator to your resume/CV. I so wish I could have stopped you from using the CA glue. It kind of eats through the fiber optics, ack! You deserve a hug for going through that. I wonder if you could have used a glue gel or if that would have been too clumpy. I never think of epoxy because I haven't made anything needing that strong of a hold yet. Even with the CA glue mishap, I think they almost look more natural than they might have otherwise. This is very nice work! :)

I don't know anything about the glue you used. That said, I think it created a very happy accident with the outlines. Only problem I can think of, with what you said about the glue, it might cause accelerated fragility to the materials. Excellent wings!!!

Wanting to make my own fairy wings soooo bad and am obsessed with these, how much would you say the this project costs??
@LadyofFaewood4 жыл бұрын
I haven't added everything up but these are definitely not budget wings lol ... main costs are the fiber optics and the pvc .. there are some cheaper fiber optic torches on Amazon but I don't know how good they are.
