WOW! You Guys, together, nailed it! I saw this European look "cast stone" just today and loved it but no way can I afford the 2+ grand!!! Single Female here, I really want to attempt this by myself. Combustible materials are to be 12" away from the firebox on the sides and 16" on top.

You seem to like the shape but not the texture. You should look into plaster with a high sheen. It gives the stone look you want with the right texture and sheen of rock since it is actually ground up rock. Also smoother. Also cheap and long lasting. The shape and color is absolutely gorgeous and it really reminds me of Spanish style fireplaces.
