Omg, I never though of that! Thx so much for sharing. I've been trying to figure out what to do because of my peeling couch. I was to ashame to have company because of this issue. I'm going to do the same thing and he me some more pillows and see how it turns out!

You did fantastic getting it done that quickly! I've been working on that same method on one section of my couch for a week now... My glue must have been stronger on mine but it does work eventually for me. One thing I did discover that makes it a little easier on the cleanup... Give your couch a Brazilian wax. By that I mean heated up with a blow dryer like you do then come back over it while it's still hot and lay duct tape on it but it cool for just a tiny bit and then Yank It Off! Thanks for posting this video! I think your couch looks great!

I think it turned out wonderful. I just gave away an expensive white modern style with the chrome legs on it, because it was peeling, it is such a beautiful sofa set, unfortunately for me I'm disabled, but had I known about this I would have possibly taken that idea on if I had a house. Thanks for sharing your hard well paid off labor. GOD BLESS

That was genius! I gave my furniture away when it started to peel. I wish I had been as smart as you. I have also seen people paint the fabric after they peeled away the fake leather. I wish I had seen this video a few months ago.

How did you get all of the fake leather from in the cracks?

I found this looking for tips on repairing the fake leather with paint. PAINT! Plain old wall paint. Spray or applied with sponges or mini rollers. Because it's made of latex/vinyl/etc, and so is paint, people use that instead of the expensive stuff that is made for it, and it does the same thing. They also use similar color flex seal sprays. If they just have areas to fix like me (the arms of chairs) they peel and sometimes sand the edges with paper, but I may try your method with a heat gun for speed - being very careful lol Thanks for sharing! Thought I'd return the favor. There are lots of good sites and a few videos I've so far found showing the process. Love your DIY fix!

I saw some videos like what you're saying and they added fabric softener to the latex paint said it made the couch smell nice too!

note to people out there: if you notice your “leather” furniture or clothes peeling away within 2-5 years, it is most likely bonded leather, a cheap leather alternative that is made up of both leather and other materials, be wary of leather furniture and clothes, and make sure its real leather
@elmyra.jackson6 жыл бұрын
Sis, you are amazing!! That is such a creative idea! As you have discovered, this is clearly not leather! From my own research, leather will never peel. It will however fade and or crack!!

I have this same problem, mine is a sectional recliner and I thought about this but I also thought about painting it. What are your thoughts on how the under layer would take paint?
@MSMAUTIKA7 жыл бұрын
Hello, I'm not sure how to paint it but mine felt like a soft suede. Mine wasn't real leather but I have looked at (Jennifer Allwood: You can PAINT worn leather!) a few times thinking it looks great.
@nomadicwmn60737 жыл бұрын
MSMAUTIKA Hi, I think I have same soft material underneath as you do. I was looking at chalk paint and one that looks like leather call fusion mineral paint which I saw being used on a chair on the show hometalk. I love what you did cleaning off the leather flakes.
