Flaxseed gel n aloe vera gel is the healthiest alternative. Most uv us been using eco goin on 10 yrs only to find out yesterday is dangerous 😟. But we still here alive n well. We shud b more worried bout the food we eat. But to each is own. My eco stays. It haven't caused me harm. B ur own judgement. Don't follow the trend.

You actually don’t know if the Eco has caused you any harm or not unless you’ve had tests done? Either way it’s your life, so if that’s on you. If others choose to not use Eco it’s not just to “follow the trend”, but people actually really want to care for their health in any way possible. People “follow the trend” all the time, so how is this trend any different considering it’s basically harmless? Like if you want to use Eco make sure you start saving up for your possible cancer treatments as well.

Updated; 7/18/2019 I’ve been using it now almost or about a month and I absolutely love it!!! It has helped my hair by drastically reducing hair fall. (Postpartum hair fall btw) I noticed hair growth as well. Really recommend it. I say instead of letting it sit to cool off you should just strain it right away with a strainer covered with muslim cloth or a cut opened tight. Definitely saved me ALOT of time and awkward squishing.

I use flax see gel just about every week I wash my hair. I usually only use it for twist/braid outs or roller sets. It makes my hair super soft and not frizzy. Plus its cheap. But you can also make it using aloe water instead of regular water, just for extra moisturizing benefits. Try it sometime! You just gotta keep it in the fridge. I keep it for about 2 weeks. And I buy cheap pump bottles from the dollar store to me it easier to use.

I love flaxseed gel! Its super healthy and beneficial for your hair in so many ways. I have modified mine only because just basic gel gives such an intense hold I found it to be too much for me so I add rosehips to the water when making the gel then once its done and in my container I will add olive oil and sweet almond oil which def gives it that eco styler feel and scent then I will add 6drops of peppermint oil and 6drops of rosemary oil mix it together in container and its ready to use! It will make those curls pop with definition and your hair will be soft and smell so good! Try it out :) I keep mine in the fridge and it keeps very well without preservatives.

Yes I do use flax seed gel myself, and without preservatives it last up to two weeks in the fridge alone. Flex seed gel will spoil if not put into the fridge. I do not recommend making a lot at one do to time frame and how much it will be used.

You don’t have to cook the flax seeds for that long, cook for a bout five to ten minutes, and remove from the seeds as soon as possible. The gel will thicken when cool.

You have a darling personality! I did some research on preservatives, and rosemary extract or rosemary oil is not only famous for being good for hair but also as a preservative (which is even used for meat). Either way you must put it in the fridge, but with the rosemary my guess is that it might last considerably longer. Also, my guess is that for slicking down the hair the answer would be to make the gel thicker -- and use maybe double the amount flax seeds. Just a guess though! (I'm trying the flax gel on my old dried out white girl bushy hair that USED TO be wavy-curly. Not sure about the results yet. Also used my homemade shampoo for the first time, so I'm going to give it a couple washes before I decide if it works for me! It's just now drying and I'm going to go comb it out now....)

I make this gel regularly. 2 cups of water and 1/4th of a cup of seeds is perfect imo. It'll be a snotty consistency but putting it in the fridge will make it thicken. Adding 4 drops of an essential oil (i use peppermint oil. Its fragrant, keeps insects away, prevents/soothes itching and stimulates the scalp promoting hairgrowth) will make the gel last longer before it spoils (keep it refrigerated, because of how much water is contained in the gel, it can accumulate mold). The gel lasts 2 weeks. 3 weeks with the essential oils.

Vitamin E, Grapeseed Extract, the Refrigerator will slow down the the process of it going rancid but doesn't stop bacteria etc in a water based product. Also, the amount (IU) matters. I've used neem, rosemary, tea tree as well but mostly just make small batches that last no more than 7 days or freeze large batches in ice cube trays and thaw in a squeeze bottle when I need it. I hear there are natural presvatives you can order like Optiphen Plus. I'm no expert so... Happy Researching and Money Saving 👍🏾

Hey Jess. So I read that the Pink Eco (curl & wave) and the Blue Eco (sport) ingredients do not contain the specific concerning elements that were pointed out in AlopeciaFreeWithJess & Bri Hall's videos. I have not done my own research on this but I wanted to share as another alternative for those who don't necessarily want to move away from Eco but are being more cautious. As for the DIY Flaxseed Gel, I followed Naptual85's recipe years ago and added a bit of shea butter and honey. I also keep it in the fridge. It does not give me the lasting hold that I need to sustain a wash-n-go for 1 week with my workouts and sweat. I do like it for a simple 2 to 3 day (max) hair style but that is just my experience and my preference.

Just a lil Tipp from me. I make flaxseed gel too. But u can reuse the "old", flaxseeds until 2-3 times. They won't make a thick gel like before, but if u let them boil longer and u put just a lil bit fresh flaxseeds with the old ones then u will have ur gel. U can freeze the old flaxseeds in the meantime

I made some flaxseed gel and split it into two containers. I added a few drops of tea tree oil in one container and the other container I added peppermint oil. They both lasted 2+ weeks in the fridge! The first time I made the gel without adding a preservative and I left out at room temp and within 2 days it was rancid / stinky!

I've been using flaxseed gel since I've been natural for about 4 years now. It is great for defining curls in a wash and go, I use it for twist outs and braid outs, but I don't generally use it to do slick back looks because I have serious fly aways, and flax seed gel doesn't help me with that issue long term so through out the day my hair looks frizzy, but some people may not have as many fly aways as me. I preserve it with some peppermint oil and I leave it in the refrigerator. I generally can get away with two weeks of my flax seed gel before it starts to smell a bit sour. Although I would recommend putting it in a container that's a little easier to use when you're doing your hair like a cleaned out conditioner bottle.

I know this is old but I just discovered Flaxseed gel and I LOVE IT!! All the edge gels break out my forhead. I have tried every one, from expensive to cheap and they all break me out. The bumps are usually surface and superficial and go away after a few days but sometimes can last a little longer. Regardless I was tired of that. Now I use flaxseed gel and it lays the edges and hair down and NO breakouts

I picked up and moved to Asia so there's nooo hair products and their gel is a joke, my natural hair would literally laugh if it could it's like putting water lol So I'm only using conditioners and oils as moisturizers and I was wondering about flax gel.. But you mentioned you didn't put honey, is that something people add for more moisture?? I'm making me some! Eco never worked for me anyway so I never use that

Ok for any new people just coming in on this i highly recommend not cooling the solution. As soon as you're done pour it through a metal strainer. I got mine from dollar tree. I let it cool THIS way. At the end i have a gel at the bottom in a bowl and seeds i can threw in a freezer bag for the next use. I just pulled mined out from no less than 2 yrs ago. They still work. My hair has been super dry recently & was hoping to find some new info on this but im just going to apply & reap the benefits!

So I've been using flax seed gel for. Some time now and kinda expending with it and I've got a tip or to . when u use the flax seed gel just like that it leaves your crunchy . so what I find that works best at least for me is I make it a bit lest gooie and I add aloe , vitamin E oil , Jamaica . castor oil to it and use for my wash and go and its perfect and u must keep it regenerated or it will go bad , to get rid if the stiff u must moisturize your hair before add all the oils u prefer and then add the flax seed mixture . when I use it in my wash and go the curls last me for 2 weeks and they still pop then too. Best thing ever . I ask I do I mixture of raw shae butter ,organic. Coconut oil , olive oil along with the flax seed gel and I find for me the to go together like peanut butter and jelly . best thing i ever used in my hair .
